"It’s all over now but the mop-up. Maybe shovel-up is more like it."

"And the biggest load sitting there, as the tents are packed up and the elephants are sent down the rails, is free agent-to-be Jay Cutler," writes Rick Telander in the Chicago Sun-Times, the morning after the big game.
Cutler was pretty good in the Bears’ season-ending 33-28 loss to the Packers that reminded us, above all, that Aaron Rodgers is as good as it gets when it counts....
You wouldn’t think what the Packers accomplish should figure in Cutler’s future, but it does because Rodgers and the Packers aren’t going away. Both Cutler and Rodgers are 30, but Cutler is seven months older than his rival.

And Cutler can’t beat the Packers. He’s now 1-9 in his career against them, including the playoffs....
AND: Here's the University of Wisconsin football team, watching the Packers game at a hotel in Florida, forlorn and then jubilant as Randall Cobb's touchdown wins the game:

(There's one Bears fan there, right in the middle, nicely revealed in the slo-mo repeat.)

Nothing worse than being in enemy territory wearing a Bears jersey. Referring to #22 in the video.

Thought my Steelers were in when KC lined up for the last second field goal in regulation. Not to be.

I have always liked Rodgers.

Cutler? Not at all. He has the cocky wide receiver attitude. He and Dez Bryant are a matched set.

Almost makes up for 4th and 26.

Yahoo has a front-page story about a Rogers boyfriend (now scorned apparently) making a little news.

I have no ides if this is true, and don't care. I love the Pack, and only hope there is no weird distraction right now. The niners will be tough enough.

I don't think Cutler was supposed to be covering Cobb on the last touchdown.

Getting rid of Cutler might make sense if they could get Tom Brady. Cutler is good. His team is not.

He's not Rodgers? Who is other than Rodgers himself?

The Bears fan is Vonte Jackson, from Kenosha.

There was an old Peanuts strip and Linus is describing a similar jubilant ending to a football game on TV and Charlie Brown asks: How did the other team feel?

I liked Jarrett Boykin's fumble recovery, and touchdown. He had the sense to pick the ball up, but didn't start running until the sidelines screamed at him......RUN!!!!

Humperdink,

Sorry about Succup missing the kick. But with 20 of 22 starters sitting out the game, we should have been slaughtered. All in all, this was a huge confidence builder for our second string.

Frankly, I'm happy to have the Chargers in rather than the Steelers. I expect them to choke against the Bengals.

Cutler is not as good as Rodgers but he's a good QB and the best the Bears are going to get. Cutler had a good season and played well yesterday.

As for Rodgers, let's keep things in perspective. Brady has three Super Bowl wins, five Super Bowl appearances, and two MVPs. Peyton Manning has a Super Bowl win, two Super Bowl appearances and five MVPs. Drew Brees has a Super Bowl win with a team that totally sucked before he got there, and more career TD passes and yards than Brady. Aaron Rodgers is the 4th best QB in the NFL since he finally got to start in 2008.

Yeah, if the Steelers got by the Bungles, they would be shredded wheat against Manning or Brady.

The commentariat in the Sun Times were not kind to Cutler. Not as harsh as I, but unkind nonetheless.

Humperdink,

Sorry, it just gets worse. The league just admitted that the refs failed to call the Chargers for illegal formation on Succup's kick. That would have been a rekick 5 yards closer.

Also, I forgot the fumble that the Chiefs ran back in overtime that the refs called back. Andy Reid wanted to challenge that but was not allowed to do so in overtime.

As we used to say in Chicago. Mob says ... Chargers win.

"How did the other team feel?"

Really bad, I hope.

Bears gave that game away so many times. From not picking up that fumble to fumbling themselves to not tackling.

True they were missing a lot of D players, but I'm still appauled that some guys like Jennings (26) who should be a starter can't tackle for a damn.

It's a systemic coaching problem still. Hopefully it's just limited to the defense, but I have a feeling they'll need a new coordinator before it'll get better.

That stache WAS his coming moment.

Humperdink म्हणाले...

@CWJ Yeah, I got wind of the ref's bad non-call on the field goal. The officials are getting worse every year.

However, my Steelers have no complaint. Losing to the hapless Raiders and the Dolphins sealed their fate. The Raiders? Sheez.

Life is cruel if you are a Bears fan.

I've been a Bears fan since childhood and I don't like Cutler. Too many bad throws. McCown looked awfully good when Cutler was out.
