"He wasn't a violent person, he was just verbally aggressive."

Said of the latest school shooter.

And here's news of his Facebook postings:
"I was wondering to all the neoclassicals and neoliberals, why isn't the market correcting itself?" he wrote. "If the invisible hand is so strong, shouldn't it be able to overpower regulations?"

Pierson also appears to mock Republicans on another Facebook post, writing "you republicans are so cute" and posting an image that reads: "The Republican Party: Health Care: Let 'em Die, Climate Change: Let 'em Die, Gun Violence: Let 'em Die, Women's Rights: Let 'em Die, More War: Let 'em Die. Is this really the side you want to be on?"

She was transported to Swedish Hospital as a precaution on Friday

Swedish Hospital? Is that where they have the world-famous Lutefisk Ovedose Unit where you get treated by Euro-socialist doctors & nurses wearing Speedos & bikinis (respectively, of course)?

The kid's progressive political proclivities don't fit The Template, so this story will fall off the front pages in a week.

Gun Violence: Let 'em Die

Self-fulfilling prophecy?

It would be interesting to know why the debate coach dropped him from the team. You know, HS debate coach is generally not considered a high risk occupation...

This is why correct grammar is important. "He wasn't a violent person" should be "He hadn't been a violent person"

You know this kid's sources and influences would be under intense scrutiny had he espoused conservative principles. Will he be called the "NYT-MSNBC Shooter"?

In one Facebook post, Pierson attacks the philosophies of economist Adam Smith, who through his invisible-hand theory pushed the notion that the free market was self-regulating.

Efficiently self-allocating, actually.

"I was wondering to all the neoclassicals and neoliberals, why isn't the market correcting itself?" he wrote. "If the invisible hand is so strong, shouldn't it be able to overpower regulations?"

Government regulation often perverts the incentives and signals that make the market work. That generalized immiseration is the quiet consequence has allowed a long line of economic thinkers like this kid to maintain their credibility.

It's not a test of wills or coercive power. Price signals are as fragile as they are immutable; hence, Smith emphasis on a legal framework enforcing norms of commerce and property. Unlike the bureaucrat, and this kid, the Invisible Hand doesn't have a gun in it.

But hey, a poor grasp of economic principles never stopped Obama.

Huh. So I guess his motive remains a mystery, at least until we find a father or uncle who votes Republican and owns an AR-15, and who once nastily questioned the young man's virility because he was on the debate team instead of the football team.

Perhaps Pierson was unfamiliar with Mao's great purge caused through misaligned development directed through inappropriate regulation.

The "invisible hand" is a chaotic process. Regulation acts as a source or sink which influences its evolution. There is neither reason to believe nor expect that a chaotic process will not seek another state, which will persist for some indefinite time, or longer if it is a stable state. The "invisible hand" is guided, if not actually directed, by human policies.

He just liked confrontation. He needed to participate in HS sports such as wrestling, gymnastics or track and field discus/javelin throws instead of debate team. But women's teams probably sucked up all the funding from such war like men's sports.

At least he did eat his own gun.

All other things being equal, I would rather be on the "Let 'em Die" team than the 'see to it that they die' team.

YoungHegelian, Swedish Hospital is the best hospital in the Denver metro area. It's pricey, but if you want the best, they're it.

The Swedish chain was founded in Seattle by an actual collection of Swedes. It is odd that they've kept the name in these FooCo bland generic corporate name times, but then hospitals seem to be like that. The Sisters of St. Joseph still run St. Joseph and St. Elizabeth Hospitals, many of them, and don't seem to give a damn that hospitals run by nuns and named after saints is unbelievably square in an age when the President defends what we will graciously call his "policies" on a TV talk show with one-liners and a laugh track.

The Mailed Fist of regulation.

Of all of the last-minute delays, website bungles, and Presidential whims that have marred the roll-out of Obamacare’s subsidized insurance exchanges, what happened on Thursday, December 12 will stand as one of the most lawless acts yet committed by this administration. The White House—having canceled Americans’ old health plans, and having botched the system for enrolling people in new ones—knows that millions of Americans will enter the new year without health coverage. So instead of actually fixing the problem, the administration is retroactively attempting to force insurers to hand out free health care—at a loss—to those whom the White House has rendered uninsured. If Obamacare wasn’t a government takeover of the health insurance industry, then what is it now?...

“What’s wrong with ‘urging’ insurers to offer free care?” you might ask. “That’s not the same as forcing them to offer free care.” Except that the government is using the full force of its regulatory powers, under Obamacare, to threaten insurers if they don’t comply. All you have to do is read the menacing language in the new regulations that HHS published this week, in which HHS says it may throw otherwise qualified health plans off of the exchanges next year if they don’t comply with the government’s “requests.”

“We are considering factoring into the [qualified health plan] renewal process, as part of the determination regarding whether making a health plan available…how [insurers] ensure continuity of care during transitions,” they write. Which is kind of like the Mafia saying that it will “consider” the amount of protection money you’ve paid in its decision as to whether or not it vandalizes your storefront.

There are other services HHS is asking insurers to offer for free. The administration is “strongly encouraging insurers to treat out-of-network providers”—i.e., costly ones—“as in-network to ensure continuity of care” and to “refill prescriptions covered under previous plans during January.” But the issue of unpaid premiums looms largest.

If, as I expect, this law will turn out to be the disaster for Democrats that the Civil War was, people are going to be going to jail after January 2017.

I doubt that,"They will be hunting Democrats with dogs," as Phil Gramm said if Hillarycare had passed in 1994, but it will be close.

I don't think that will stop the coming Armageddon that occurs when the welfare state runs out of money, but it will be a bad time.

I'd say he's responding to media coverage of school shooters, not to aggressive tendencies.

It's a deal that the MSM makes with the deranged. One gets notoriety, and other gets eyeballs to sell to advertisers.

It's a win/win deal.

Terrorists and democrats have the same arrangement with the MSM.

अनामित म्हणाले...

Please, let's not name him, let's not talk about him, and DEFINITELY let's not analyze every speck of information about him for "clues to why he did this."

This is exactly what causes more school shootings. See, e.g., http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/crucial-conversations/201204/the-media-is-accomplice-in-school-shootings.

Instead, let's have a discussion about how, consistent with the First Amendment, we can stop the media from giving posthumous publicity to these worthless scumbags.
