"At this point cunning Reg readers are probably thinking that a very large, rather dead, creature is going to have rather a lot of gas trapped somewhere within its innards. And that if the organ containing said gas isn't handled well, nasty things may result. Let's roll tape to put that hypothesis to the test...."

He looks clean as he runs away. Oh well.
I suspect that whale had been dead for some time. Longer than the dissection team thought, at least.
Pardon me monsieur. Just one wafer thin mint.
Funny, I just finished reading Moby Dick about a week ago.
Damn... like over inflating a car tire and it blows up.
It can be fatal!!!
Did they find the golden ticket?
It actually strikes me as quite dangerous. The sharp flensing knife was violently blown out of his hands, could have injured/killed him or anyone else in it's path. Looks like he was ok (other than the smell). He is a lucky man.

Nope. That's me tomorrow morning.
Leave the whales alone, morons thugs.
Had a similar experience performing a necropsy on a cow that had been dead in the field for a week during July in Lousiana. The video doesn't capture the smell, fortunately.
The necropsy was obviously pointless, but it was "policy" at the vet school, so naturally common sense could not prevail.
