I do not believe that anyone says "life in prison is worse than death" and means it.
If it were, why do Death Row inmates try so hard to get their sentences commuted to life in prison?
And doesn't that conflict with the argument that punishment should not be retribution?
I can understand principled objection to the death penalty, but so little of it seems principled--it seems more like they will throw any argument they have at it in the hopes they can get rid of it--as though their opposition justifies lying.
Flynt is not a reliable narrator. Franklin may have confessed to shooting Flynt, but he has never been charged with the crime. Franklin, of course, is also not a reliable narrator. Flynt lives in opposite-land, where banning obscene magazines causes obscene magazines to flourish, and capital punishment causes capital crimes.
"I would love an hour in a room with him and a pair of wire-cutters and pliers, so I could inflict the same damage on him that he inflicted on me. But, I do not want to kill him, nor do I want to see him die...."
Larry it's not about you. He's not going to be executed for shooting you. He is being executed albeit far too many years later than he should be for murdering other people.
I read precisely one issue of Hustler in my life. It had a cartoon feature -- a recurring cartoon feature I was given to understand -- called "Chester the Child Molester."
I understand the principle of free speech, and I suppose that it's entirely possible that someone can find humor in child molestation. But nevertheless if anyone needs wire cutters and pliers applied to them, it's Flynt.

Because killing is wrong, but torture is A-OK.

As stated Franklin has never been convicted of shooting Flynt. For all we know it was a jealous husband.
In any case, Flynt is a lying left-wing freak. I'm against shooting people on general principle but I can't gin a lot of sympathy for him.
Its like when I read about some Mafiso or criminal getting whacked.

Alphonse Manning and Toni Schwenn. RIP
I don't think Flynt is going to be able to catch anyone on two feet whether they are in the same room or not
