Public masturbation okay in Sweden as long as you're not looking at anybody in particular?
The TIME headline is pretty deceptive. The court threw out a "sexual assault" charge. It might still be "disorderly conduct."

My libertarian side generally welcomes increases in freedom, even when it involves freedoms that I would not personally want to exercise. Then something like this comes up, and my conservative side says, Do you really want to live in a community in which people masturbate in public?
The district court of Södertörn tossed out the charge on the grounds that he didn’t look at anybody while fondling himself. The court ruled he had committed no offense, as he did not direct his “activities” at any particular target.

Sexual assault for jerking off? Isn't that kind of mutually exclusive? Good call for the court, IMO, though I hope they can him for something.
Just because someone is doing something wrong doesn't mean they are doing X thing wrong. At this rate they'll be charging jaywalking as sexual assault within the decade.

Maybe we could get the Muppet Show's Swedish Chef to do a public service announcement to that effect, complete with squawking bug-eyed Muppet chickens.
