Mystery photo of the day.

scrapbook 5_0033

ADDED: This picture is from 1956, and I'm surprised commenters aren't finding it easy to tell which one is me. (Here's another picture from that day.)

The girl on the right seems to be blogging in the sand.

No saddle oxfords?

Nerds.

Heartless Aztec म्हणाले...

Typical slice of backyard 50's life. I'm sure they're all grandmotherly now. Is the Perfesser the raven haired child whose hair is blowing in the wind at the back of the sandbox.

Cleaning out the cat litter box.

PaulV म्हणाले...

Only girls. Is it part of as Instapundit calls "War on Boys"?

अनामित म्हणाले...

Little girl with bob and slacks in forefront is no doubt a young Althouse. I'm getting good at this, will I be the first again?!

MadisonMan म्हणाले...

It's not a picture of your birthday party.

अनामित म्हणाले...

Adorable strappy shoes.

Did you have that tin bakeware to make your sand pies and tasty creations with? I recall begging for water to wet the sand with, dry sand wasn't any fun.

TML म्हणाले...

Something about that photo makes the little girl on the right look Andre the Giant sized. Eye Twister.

madAsHell म्हणाले...

The background is interesting too. Lots of green grass, and fences. Post war suburbia.

Hopefully, the shrubs and trees have returned, and the cyclone fences are obscured.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

It's not obvious which one is me?!

Photo is from 1956.

David म्हणाले...

It's the 5 year old in the middle of the pic.

अनामित म्हणाले...

No, it's the girl in the slacks in forefront, it's obvious. Sheesh David.;)

अनामित म्हणाले...

David, in the second pic, yes it's the middle girl with slacks. Is that the pic you were referring to?

cubanbob म्हणाले...

It's remarkable how much you resemble yourself today in that photo.

Irene म्हणाले...

You are the cutie wearing the pants. Your eyes identify you.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

I'm surprised Irene gets it wrong too. Irene knows me IRL.

I'm the one in the back.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

I'm the girl in shorts.

Surfed got it right.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

David is also right.

Heartless Aztec म्हणाले...

The raven hair blowing in the wind in the back of the box. I was right.

अनामित म्हणाले...

Wow, I'm flummoxed.

Darn you David!

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

"raven" is wrong. I had medium light hair, of a reddish color.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

I think I look exactly like myself in this photo. Uncannily so.

Heartless Aztec म्हणाले...

I stand corrected.

Irene म्हणाले...

*blushes*

Rockport Conservative म्हणाले...

I think it is amazing how much you, and many other people I know, have
always looked exactly like themselves throughout their lives.
On the other hand, I now live in the same town in which I grew up and a lot of people do NOT look like they used to.
I didn't bother to count them but do women have a better ability to tell which is you than men?

rcocean म्हणाले...

And you, a Law Professor!

"I'm surprised commenters aren't finding it easy to tell which one is me."

Haven't read the comments. If you're not the one on the left, I'll eat my hat.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

Hat. Mouth.

Doing this, what I am about to do, isn't easy.

Yet the fact remains: Wisconsin in September is really, really cool.

It is nice to look back upon times previous with grace-filled feelings of wholesomeness unmatched.

Yet old Man Winter is forthcoming.

Killing, chilling and changing (albeit indeed for better or worse) Winter in Wisconsin is why I applaud you all without remittance.

Lewis Wetzel म्हणाले...

In those days, many families were glad of daughters, for they could be set to the task of cleaning kitty's giant sandbox.
Woe to the father and mother that must set a son to such a task!

AmPowerBlog म्हणाले...

I didn't get that one. You're in the back but it's not a prominent position for identification purposes. Hard to tell. Beautiful. But hard to tell.

Tank म्हणाले...

I guessed the one in the back, even though I don't think it looks like you. Just the others look less (not at all) like you.

I'm bad at this sort of thing.

My wife would know in a second.

Unknown म्हणाले...

From the second picture, I guessed that the girl in the dress and the girl in the shorts were sisters, based on the noses and haircuts (sorry, but what is with those bangs??)

Not sure if that is correct or not but from that I figured the younger of that pair was you. I can see resemblance but not in a definitive way. It's funny how we see characteristics of our own faces and mannerisms in ways that others don't always notice.

Heartless Aztec म्हणाले...

Few of the men on this comment thread have a practiced eye for spotting and tracking women across the plains and savanna's of America. The Perfesser's hair at 5 years of age is the same in color as the pic of her at 20 years of age in her hippie chick days of going to the Dead concert with her first betrothed back in 1970.

MadisonMan म्हणाले...

I think I look exactly like myself in this photo. Uncannily so.

Sez you.
