The question "Will Governor Rick Perry run in 2016?" has been answered if we are to believe ThinkProgress. Of course, other questions arise: Do you believe what George Soros is telling us? When is the last time that ThinkProgress reported straight-up, unslanted news?
Anita Perry said: “That could be a woman’s right, just like it’s a man’s right if he wants to have some kind of procedure,”
"The older I get, there are two sides of every nickel."
“God made us our own individuals, and I can believe, you can believe, what you want to believe.”
“Under the law in the state of Texas, you can have an abortion up to 20 weeks.”
As to whether she holds with her husband's view that women should not have the right to choose, Anita Perry said, “I’m going to support my husband on that …We have laws in this state that regulate that. I am going to support him on that.”
By subjecting abortion clinics to new regulations that would force them to make expensive updates to their facilities [e.g., to adhere to the same standards as surgical centers] — unnecessary measures that major medical groups, like the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, oppose — Texas’ bill would force 90 percent of the state’s clinics to close their doors.
The commenters there are surprised that Mrs. Perry has her own opinion, and different from that of her husband. Are the libs that controlling of their partners that they don't allow them to think for themselves. Let alone express those opinions in public. How tyrannical and controlling those free thinkers are. Next we'll find out that they aren't as open minded about people of color and those of different sexual orientation as they purport to be.
I believe we have seen an act of journalism committed here! Ask a question, ask a follow-up, try to paint the interviewee into the corner, nail his or her ass to the wall, GO TO PRESS!
Now. Please try this method at the next opportunity to question Obama. You will see a grown man get VERY hostile.
It's fine if Rick Perry's wife has different opinions about abortion than he does. If she said exactly what he says, they would call her a Stepford Wife. She can't win. She's Republican.
It's a man's right to have a procedure only if his wife agrees.
I find it very amusing that those who say we need to follow more advanced countries' health care policies never admit that those advanced countries (except for Canada) limit abortion to less than the cut-off date that Texas has.
I know women have a difficult time making decisions, but 9 months for something like this?
I'm not shocked that Mr. and Mrs. Perry have different opinions. It happens, especially with deeply divisive issues like abortion, even between spouses. I don't think it will hurt or help her husband, so I don't see why she wouldn't mention it. Especially as this is Perry's last term as Governor of Texas.

Dismember it. Vacuum it. Flush it. It is Barack, Harry, Nancy, Anita, etc.
Women, and men, do have a choice. It is to accept responsibility for their actions. It is not to devalue human life through willful destruction of an evolving human life. Certainly not for reason of material, physical, or egoistic benefit.
Civilized society has laws to hold such individuals accountable for their crimes against the individual, society, and humanity. Civilized women and men hold murderers in low regard. They do not celebrate their bad or selfish choices.
Thank you Edward Lunny. The idea that people who love each other may think differently on serious issues does not compute to non serious or intellectual people.
And if you are liberal you are not a serious thinker.
Is Rick Perry's wife governor? Does she hold some kind of office she ran for on a platform that said abortion ought not to be a woman's right?
Then why is it newsworthy that a wife holds differing political views from her husband? Is it that they assume wives of Republican officeholders hail from Stepford?
Furthermore, one can acknowledge that as a matter of law a right exists and that one disagrees. Maybe that's too hard for ThinkProgress, though they seem to follow it easily enough when a Democrat talks about their "personal opposition" to abortion.
Okay, let me get this straight. An organization of persons who are making a profit in a certain business say that certain health and safety regulations on part of that business are unnecessary, and ThinkProgress simply assumes that they can be believed?
Thank heaven we have Serious Intellectuals like Edward Lunny and small-d donald to tell us what's what! When those two are in a room, a veritable Algonquin Round Table is in session.
My wife as a pro choice ob/gyn and I am prolife. When she retires, she is going to volunteer in a clinic. We will carpool, because I will be protesting outside.
Te Republicans do have a problem - there is a disconnect between those that want laws for personhood for blastocysts and those that feel most abortion is wrong but should be left up to the woman. Even Republican women and most educated male Republicans (college grads). No surprise that Laura Bush, Mrs Perry and many other prominent Republicans do not align themselves with the fanatical Right To Lifers. So even in Mississippi where most think abortion is wrong, they refused to pass a personhood law that any fertilized egg should be a person the same as any adult, in the law's eyes. Mississippi!!
There is a disconnect as well on gay marriage...where some social conservatives want to outlaw it or seek Jesus or Allah intervention by trying to "pray the gay away" - but other Republicans and Independents are committed to gays having the same rights as the rest of us. No surprise that HW Bush attended the gay wedding of the child of a long-time friend.
There is also a strong libertarian element that while they believe some things are wrong and would not do them in their personal lives - feel even stronger about not having more coercive laws. And reject the social conservatives and often vote for Democrats, particularly on abortion...if they worry the Religious Right will try and take us back to the 19th Century.
"By subjecting abortion clinics to new regulations that would force them to make expensive updates to their facilities [e.g., to adhere to the same standards as surgical centers] — unnecessary measures that major medical groups, like the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, oppose"
-- Those are the same "restrictions" that could have stopped Gosnell. Why, exactly, do abortion clinics get a special dispensation to ignore safety standards?

So why is it that liberals and blacks are the loudest demanders of gun-grabbing whenever there is a pile of dead whites?
They're human, aren't they? They possess individual dignity, don't they? A central tenet of American conservative philosophy is to promote the general Welfare. This does not imply a specific concern, but it is wholly inclusive of all the People. It is premised on a mutual interest (i.e. "We"). There is no exception made for skin color.

I read ACOG’s open letter and it wasn’t particularly factual or persuasive. A point-by-point listing of the proposed regulations and why ACOG believes they were unnecessary would have been more effective IMO in persuading people who while they may not necessarily be opposed to abortion, aren’t particularly comfortable with it and generally think that State-required health and safety standards are a good thing for medical facilities. It seems to me that whoever wrote this letter was just more interested in shoring up their “pro-choice” bona fides than in persuading anyone else to side with them.

Romney lost the woman's vote 55-44. For all the talk about Hispanics and Barry making lady voters ladyparts wet..The election, very simply, was lost on the woman's vote...and exit polls showed again that the tipping issue was fear Republican men would limit women's "choice".
The Right to Life fanatics, mostly men, were unfortunately on full display in the Terry Schiavo fiasco for the Republicans. Women haven't forgotten how the bulk of Republican elected officials stood with the RTLrs on Schiavo, on abortion.
And have voted accordingly since then. The same Religious Right elements cast gay marriage as the end of the world, and again, moderate to conservative women felt a lot less strongly about the religious need to demonize homosexuals..

Well, I don't trust anything spewed by Think Progress, although I'm willing to consider the possibility that Mrs. Perry is moderately pro-choice.
"Why no, I made it advertently."

Damn government health and safety regulations!

Well it is a right, isn't it? See for example Roe v. Wade.

Is Rick Perry Katie Perry's older brother?
Why are so many politicians not ready for prime time??

Let's all provide free abortions for the poor and minority population. YAY!
Having had a life with a bright and beautiful girl who thought differently on so many things, well I can see it.
Then the socialists go lock step no matter what an it all explains itself.

It's a women's right to sit around undecided for 20 weeks.
Can't we all just go along to get along, dare I say coexist?

Did Mrs. Perry say women have a right to an abortion, or the right to a "safe, legal and rare" abortion?
The next thing you know, we'll find out she has been running around covering up all the Governor's affairs. Then she will be ready for public office.

Under Texas law a women still has a right to have an abortion if she chooses. Im not sure what the news is that she is making.

Abortions disproportionately kill blacks, Hispanics and liberals. So, why do conservative whites care?
That does it. I'm not voting for Anita Perry for anything ever.
"Why no, I made it advertently."
Thanks for a morning chuckle.
Would that Mrs. Perry had said that.
Much ado about nothing.
The woman is simply (sadly, ignorantly, sloppily) muddling the very distinct English words/concepts 'right' and 'choice/decision'.
The decline of rigor in the use of the proper word is a disgrace and is causing significant damage to public discourse.

I don't. But I can speak only for me.
But shouldn't you have said ". . . blacks, Hispanics and [likely future] liberals"?
I mean, just because their parent is . . .

I still don't understand why being committed to preserving life is a fanatical position, but pushing relentlessly to keep the right to end it isn't.
