"As far as I know, Korans are not being searched. Guantánamo has returned to the national agenda. And President Obama has renewed efforts to close it. And, frankly, six months is a long time to be on a hunger strike."
All right then. All is well in detaineeworld.
Another job well done by leading-from-behind Obama.

Shouldn't the article mention something about the many released detainees who returned to jihad after release?
They didn't get the western media traction they would if Bush were president, so they declared victory and ate dinner.
As a practical matter, I'd think open cooking on the cell block would be the best way to defeat a hunger strike.
Or would that come under the tortured definition of "torture"?
They Kindled the Korans and that Rekindled Trust.

Until the day of reckoning when republicans let loose on the land of Guantanamo, a government shut down, hunger will return, and this time there wont be forced feedings, because that part of the administration of the care of the prisoners shall fall under the auspices of the Obamacare health exchanges.
Meaning, the inmates that are not willing to go and forage the island for food, as proscribed by a new get tough love approach, welfare to prison, are going to be in legal limbo, as well as hungry, and with no means of scape.
No will survive... by your command imperious leader.
They're terrorists. They should have had their tribunals and then shot over a hole full of bacon bits.
Then there would be no need for Guantanamo.
Fry bacon every day.
i'm confused about the use of "leading-from-behind" here.
It's a misuse of something the president didn't even say, but rather was language used by an anonymous aide and quoted in a New Yorker article to reference the idea that "pursuing our interests and spreading our ideals [] requires stealth and modesty as well as military strength." I don't see what that has to do with the administration's approach to the Guantanamo conundrum.
I think it's only fair to to give background on the tired cliche so snidely deployed in this post.
"And, frankly, six months is a long time to be on a hunger strike."
Obviously not long enough.
The people who end up in Guantanamo are not good people. The people we were forced to release after we captured them in Afghanistan and Iraq were scum for the most part. In order for us to keep them they had to be truly nasty people and to end up in Guantanamo they had to be extraordinarily disgusting human beings.
It would not be a reach to say the world would be better off if every one of those detainees was executed summarily. Treating these people who were all trying to kill us in one way or another as anything but enemies is stupid. And I will add that probably in every single individual case these people were war criminals and violated the Geneva conventions repeatedly.
"i'm confused about the use of "leading-from-behind" here."
I'm blogging from behind.
Your confusion is part of the From-Behinders technique.
No. Try not to close Guantanamo. Do or do not. There is no try.
Most of the hunger strikes I've read about ended because no one was paying attention. That seems to be the case here, too.
I think it's only fair to to give background on the tired cliche so snidely deployed in this post.
I interpret the whole "leading from behind" meme to be the tendency of our media and other Obama supporters to give credit to the president for positive results regardless of whether he was actively involved in the process or not.
That's not "a tired cliche", it's reality.
They're terrorists. They should have had their tribunals and then shot over a hole full of bacon bits.
Then there would be no need for Guantanamo.
What a horrible waste of good bacon.
If they had a true hunger strike they wouldn't have lasted six weeks, let alone 6 months. So they cheated. And if they just gave up out of boredom, then what kind of weasels are they.
We should make them continue their hunger strike by withholding food and then telling them its for their own good.
No justice no piece (of chicken)!
