Oh, snap!

Biggest fraud: Alex Rodriguez, Ryan Braun, Lance Armstrong or Barack Obama? You make the call!

Awesome.

Are we going to play 'pass the pig' with this thing? When it's my turn I promise to only lightly cruise missile my political opponents...and when I do I want to stress they are not MY opponents...they're everyone's!
Got that?

On the one hand, yes, I'm sympathetic to the notion of "correcting" the award to Obama. He simply had not done anything to deserve such a prize.

On the other, "correcting" that simply continues along the path of the real problem by enshrining the Nobel Peace Prize as a political reward instead of one for genuine peacemaking activities. That "cure" actually prolongs the illness.

The reality is that the prize should have never been rewarded for such an empty reason, and for such a transparently political reason. Getting Snowden in the mix does not change that. Rebukes do not fix the fundamental problem; that can only be done by the Nobel committee waking up and changing how they award the prize.

How has harming diplomatic relations and weakening the trust between nations [even if it was done with the purest of intentions -- they pave the way and all] good for peace?

Who should receive the Nobel Peace Prize in order to correct the Nobel Committee's mistake in giving the award to Arafat?

Robert Cook म्हणाले...

Hallelujah! I'll almost be willing to consider that in the most unlikely of likelihoods there just might be a god if Snowden wins the prize! Bradley Manning should be a co-nominee and winner.

I love that bit about the "mistake" of having awarded Obama the award previously.

Uncle Pavian म्हणाले...

Might as well. They gave one to Egas Moniz.

BarrySanders20 म्हणाले...

Why not? It's an overtly political award anyway.

Being nominated for the Peace Prize is easier than applying for grad school. All it takes is two letters of recommendation from two university professors in good standing. Grad school usually takes three.

Winning the Peace Prize is a bit harder. You have to win the sympathy of five Norwegians by having your politics align with theirs. Much trickier to pull off.

No chance in hell of it happening, but I love the optics!

OK... I'm REALLY liking this!

I wholeheartedly approve!

How about they just cool it? No prizes for a little while.

Build up the prestige again.

Imagine Snowden winning the Nobel Peace prize.

He arrives in Norway, receives the prize. The Russians hand him to the FBI/CIA...

Whereupon, he is hauled off to.. where? Internal exile? Prison?

Just what are the optics of one Nobel Peach Prize "winner" imprisoning another?

In this crazy world, there is a greater than zero probability of that happening - right here in Amerika, er America.

I remember when the USSR exiled Nobel Peace Prize winner Andrei Sakharov to Gorky...

It's a better choice than Obama.
