"Where we were. What we were doing."

Details here and here about the smallest possible wedding, the opposite of spectacle. And, similarly, I'm not saying very much in this blog post, just noting the occasion. As I've said before, I prefer normal days, and this day is a great day mostly because it's another day, in 4 years of days, to be spent with my beautiful husband, Meade.

Four years?

Damn newlyweds !

True love, as they say in The Princess Bride - not completely dead.

Congrats.

So is the Twitter feed the only child this blog is having? We're not getting any younger here, even though we comment less! Maybe a tumblr, or a Pinterest on gardening or squirrels! We don't want much....

Congratulations, and may you have many more years of happiness.

Congratulations on your happy marriage. I never saw the original post but your marriage site is beautiful. May you enjoy many more years with your Meade

I remember.

I also remember that shortly thereafter you asked your readers for advice on marriage.

(Boy, those were the days; imagine asking now.)

There were a lot of good responses. Any chance we could get you to republish them today?

Solemnizing your own marriage? Interesting. I'd never heard of that before (I was not following this blog regularly in early August four years ago; we were in the middle of moving). I wonder what the historical basis is for the Colorado law, and whether there are other states with similar provisions.

Happy Anniversary to the two of you, and keep up the good work!

Congratulations. There seemed to be a real change in the blog post-Meade, and it's a good one, I think. I enjoy the fact that you guys have such a great time together. I like couples who like each other.

Anyway, I hope you guys have a long and happy marriage. You're a great pair. :) Now get off the blog and go do something outside!

I remember the original posts, hard to believe it's been four years.

Congrats to both of you for such a wise decision.

Congratulations on a brave act and a winning bet. It's not the triumph of hope over experience but just being able to experience hope that is the triumph at a certain age.....I try to cast an affirming light, but it's barely sufficient to guide me to the can late at night.

Re: Solemnizing your own marriage - Well, in Christian Theology, the ministers of the marriage are actually the bride and groom. They say the vows and marry each other. The "Minister" is just there to witness it. (Which avoids 'he said/she said' later on... and shows that marriage is also about social connections, not just a personal contract.)

So.... maybe it's Colorado's libertarian streak?

Althouse's fundamental optimism shows through in her description of her wedding as the "smallest possible." Already, people have married themselves. Even discounting sologamy, people are obviously going to want to marry their iPad, their phone or a squirrel.

It's already been four years? Congratulations!

Glad you are happy.

The best to both of you.

I am very happy for the two of you on your 4th anniversary.

I don't exactly recall when I started reading Althouse, but it was sometime before Meade. Your joint interests of leisure activities (such as bicycling and travel) have only added to your blog and my interest in following it.

I wish you many more.
