I noticed that. Oliver is much funnier.

I'm not a regular watcher of Stewarts show, and I'm coming at this more from my perspective as a Radio / TV / Film production student (Telecom BA in 92).

John Oliver has the benefit of being fresh and new. And he certainly has a ton of charm. While I can't say Oliver is "better" than Stewart, I've seen enough to say he's quite good, and suspect he's earned himself a shot at a new show.

He has been exactly as funny, largely because the staff of writers remained the same while Jon was out. I like Jon, I like John, it's all good (but I'm happier when Jon is back in the seat of snark).

I had high expectations to begin with, being a big fan of Mr. Oliver. But yeah, I would have to say he was better than Stewart.

It took awhile - but I now enjoy Oliver. I didn't think I would - but I kind of like his accent and quirkiness!

Do Jon Stewart haters count?

Stewart relies on his ability to play his audience with self-deprecating body-language and sub-verbal sounds too much anymore. I think he used to use it more rarely, to pick things up when a joke fell flat, but it seems to have become a much more integral part of his performance. It's hard to watch anymore though. Far too blatantly partisan and disingenuous, but I do still laugh often, even for the segments that have me shouting "Oh, lying bullshit!"

What a strange statement - pointing out that no matter who's saying unfunny lines on that show, it's still a DNC lapdog showcase, should not be verboten here.

Anyone who thinks Stewart is good should see Bill Whittle's response to his Hiroshima inanity.

Yes.

Oliver's more expressive and more intent with everything he says. Stewart can be energetic, but varies his emotive expressions more and keeps you guessing just what mental state he's in.

Craig Kilborn -- Jon Stewart's predecessor on The Daily Show -- was much funnier than Jon Stewart.

Yes, John Oliver is much funnier than Jon Stewart. I hope he gets his own show or that he takes over as host on the Daily Show. Enjoy him much more in every way.
