"Rare bird last seen in Britain 22 years ago reappears..."

"... only to be killed by wind turbine in front of a horrified crowd of birdwatchers."

"Wind energy makes a vital contribution towards mitigating the impacts of climate change, which is the biggest threat to our native birds and wildlife."

Yeah, right.

harrogate म्हणाले...

Now THAT is a quotation.

jimspice म्हणाले...

Don't worry, with temperature zones shifting north yearly, I'm sure white-throated needletail sighting will become much more common.

Sprezzatura म्हणाले...

Presumably this isn't as gruesome as a wryneck being hit by a train.

Anywho, whatever the price, as long as the Kennedys' views aren't obstructed, count me in.

The white-throated needletail prefers kippin' on its back!

Something very Monty Python about it all.

Yay environmentalism!

Wind turbines are still the most inefficient renewable resource generators. They are vastly expensive, require a crapton of maintanence, and you need a lot of them to come anywhere near the promise of what they will produce. You put them in a high wind corridor and of course you are going to see bird kills. Not to mention that they are basically rotating food processors.

PoNyman म्हणाले...

Well, at least the killer wasn't a cat.

madAsHell म्हणाले...

BullShit!!

They always need an event to forward their agenda. They found an extinct bird to help there cause.

BullShit!!!

Sprezzatura म्हणाले...

"...they are basically rotating food processors."

This seems like an opportunity for an obscene profit break.

Meade, could point us to the portal to process a processor procurement?

Michael K म्हणाले...

The California golden eagle is being killed off by wind turbines. It's OK because Climate Change is so important.

Achilles म्हणाले...

When greens look for a cause they are willing to go full retard. Never mind that the free market and innovation are lowering CO2 emissions in the US. The only country to actually reduce CO2 emissions in really... ever.

We need to give Billionaires like T Boon Pickens billions more money from middle class tax payers. We need to make Jefferey Imelt Richer. They gave lots of money to Obama. There are big bundlers and Obama donors out there that must be rewarded.

Hattie म्हणाले...

Wow. This is really reaching for it. Soon we will no longer need hell, as we fry right here on earth.

LakeLevel म्हणाले...

Let's take a page from the left's playbook and sue the hell out of any attempt to expand these Dangerous Alternative Energy projects. There must be at least dozens of endangered species that are legitimately threatened by wind turbans. We need to put a stop to this now, before my electric bill goes up any more.

Clyde म्हणाले...

Oh, if only it had been a coal plant, that poor endangered bird would be alive today!

AlanKH म्हणाले...

I hope the ghost of that bird comes back to haunt Al Gore, like the albatross in "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner."

I stand amazed that the mind controlled geniuses still claim Global Warming is a real threat because hypnotic fake science guys at East Anglia and Penn State's Mann crafted some fake computer model programs and fed them fake data.

The actual Climate is cooling very fast as the irrelevant factor of CO2 trace amounts have gone up over 15% the past five years.

The cooling is from cloud cover increases due to missing solar storms in a frequency needed to block cloud forming cosmic rays.

That cooling cold air from the north has caused swings in the Jet Stream that has made temporary heat waves behind trapped air domes during the summer and a never ending winter in other Jet Stream pattern affected areas.

All of this is well known to the creeps still calling the clean plant food CO2 trace gas a pollutant based on their faked false hoax pretend science.

Anga2010 म्हणाले...

To be clear, the bird is not rare, the being in England is not common.

Reminds me of when that seal was nursed back to health over a period of several months following the Exxon Valdez spill. With an excited crowd on shore cheering him on, the little seal was ceremoniously let go into the sound...and then seconds later unceremoniously gobbled up by a killer whale.

Sorun म्हणाले...

Climate scientist: "My model predicts that more birds will be saved by wind turbines than will be sliced and diced by them."

Mark म्हणाले...

Somewhere Douglas Adams is doing shots with a bird and a seal.

Jay Vogt म्हणाले...

The physics of windmills are just brutal. And I'm not talking about birds - though that too.

Unfortunately, power is a function of mass (force specifically) and velocity. Not a lot of velocity in wind and not a lot of mass (force) in air molecules. So, you just can't get much more than two megawatts out of them.

Now if you started pelting them with rare birds you'd increase the mass and thereby the power.

RichardS म्हणाले...

Rare bird? I prefer mine well done.

gadfly म्हणाले...

Now if this was happening in California, environmentals would have punished the innocent by cutting off irrigation water to Central Valley farms in order to save the delta smelt whose entire life expectancy never exceeds a year.

This is not surprising. It's been rumored that the last dodo bird was killed when a large chunk of coal fell from the sky on the island of Mauritius.

tim maguire म्हणाले...

It's ok that wind turbines kill birds because cats kill birds. They word it a little differently, but that's the spin already in place.

tim म्हणाले...

Funniest thing I will probably read today.

Too bad for the bird it wasn't one of the tens of thousands of windmills that just sit there...rotting.

DEEBEE म्हणाले...

It has to have been a turbine made by the dirty oil profits of the Koch brothers.

Chip Ahoy म्हणाले...

I expected to see a wind turbine presenting an unavoidable obstickle xxxxx obstacle but the picture shows a lonely little windmill on a hill with puh len ty of room around it, like what is up with that bird flying directly into the windmill?

If we cold only see the invisible vortex created by the windmill that mysteriously draws birds into it. Then we would understand.

Come to me, come to me, come to me, WHAP!

The cartoon draws itself. Birdwatchers view through binoculars. Dialogue about rare bird, whop whop whop sound in distance, Bird flies directly into propellers.

Reddit yesterday. Somebody said their computer fan isn't working. lizard caught in computer fan

But you know what I think I'll do on account of not having any kids around here, and having extra cash, and seeing young single mothers bravely struggle, and having such success with the Snap Circuits Jr., apparently the boy really liked that, I think I'll have Amazon ship the Green Alternative Energy Snap Circuits directly to where they work. I'm thinking of two women with children. They'll know it came from me and they'll know it is intended for their child and I know the kits totally work to thrill children. The thing about that is you give a gift to a person to give a gift to a person out of the blue and neither one expects it. The reviews on Amazon for this kit are impressive and so are the videos on YouTube. It sort of makes me want to have a kid so I can watch them glee at discovery. I said "sort of" that thought vanishes in .0001 second. They marvel that energy has different forms. They can turn a handcrank and charge their battery. Or do the same thing with a turbine or waterwheel, solar cell, and such. One of the children is a girl and I'm expecting she would really like this. They say it turns out to be their favorite thing.

Rusty म्हणाले...

I'm saddened that a rare bird has gone extinct. I am, however, finding the irony of its end hilarious.

Delingpole is amusing on this topic. He's been pulling the curtain aside for years to little effect so far.

SGT Ted म्हणाले...

Perfect metaphor for the modern environmental religion.

Birders worship at that altar quite a bit.

You can tell its a religion because this is the response after it kills birds:

‘Wind energy makes a vital contribution towards mitigating the impacts of climate change, which is the biggest threat to our native birds and wildlife.’

IOW, when THEIR energy preference kills wildlife, there's no problem, as long as an imaginary threat that isn't killing any birds at all can be referenced to excuse it.

The bird is indeed a sacrifice to the Wind Turban God, who is protecting the rest of the birds from an imaginary Devil.

dbp म्हणाले...

The whole event reminds me of a subplot from A Fish Called Wanda. Michael Palin was an animal lover who needed to kill an old lady who was the only witness to their bank robbery. Every time he tried to off-her, he would end up murdering another of her nippy little dogs.

There is a gathering body of information that turbines may be killing Whooping Cranes and California Condors. Unlike other birds which exist in greater numbers the deaths of these birds may quickly be a fatal flaw of wind power since there are so few Whooping Cranes and California Condors left.

Golden Eagles, among other birds, are also at risk.

So apparently for upwards of 40 idiots the idea of not using the wind for our energy production gains resonance as it makes it less likely that a single representative of a single species thought to be extinct might avoid flying into a windmill.

Or those idiots are just being completely opportunistic, and ideologically mendacious cunts. Like usual. They care about species preservation and the environment as much as they care about responsible health care consumers and the tax cuts that Obama proposed endorsing: Not at all. They just want to make a stand and it doesn't really matter what it's for, as long as it seems desperate enough.

The more desperate, the more courageous they think they make themselves look and feel. Which is the only point they have at all.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together म्हणाले...

Perhaps pictures might help those who get confused by logic and words.

speaking about inefficiencies of green energy only shows that you hate the environment. Why don't you care about the dying polar bears?

jr565 म्हणाले...

Michael Mann (not the
Filmmaker, the asshole environmentalist) wrote back in 2009:
"The fact is that we can't account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can't."

That was 4 years ago, and he still can't account for it. Because it hasn't happened (warming) in close to 20 years.

It may be a travesty for pushing the green agenda (though that won't stop greenies from pushing it) but for people who aren't pushing that agenda, it sounds like simple truth.

another reason is that birds are rats with wings. (Pigeons at any rate). If a few of them bite the dust in a turbine at least they aren't shitting on your head.

Better the birds than the polar bears as I often say.

OH LOOK! IT'S A BIRD.. IT'S A PLANE.. NO IT'S (chop chop chop) it's a bird. Oh well...

This rare bird being killed by wind turbines is not the first. Rare owls and eagles have died quite often in America due to wind turbines.

And gang, go look at the HIGHWAYS. Animals die by the hundreds of thousands each year on them in just the USA alone!

Don't think wind turbines are gonna do anything for 'climate change'. In fact they might hurt due to slowing the power of winds that sweep the earth. No telling how much disruption of the normal wind cycle they do.

Now wouldn't that be funny.

jimspice म्हणाले...

Now why is it that the when discussing coal plants, conservatives say "there is no way little tiny man can have any meaningful impact on the whole huge world." But when talking about wind turbines, it's all "oh my god, we're going to whipe out all the birds!" Yes, turbines kill birds. But not at a rate that would threaten a species. However, if the rate global warming is not slowed and reversed, you can expect extinctions to become quite more commonplace.

अनामित म्हणाले...

Jimspice, what is the Goldilocks temperture for the survival of all species? Is it the Holocene Climate Optium, the Medieval Warm Period, the Little Ice Age or 1816 (Eighteen Hundred and froze to Death)?
