"Troubled Life in Malcolm X’s Shadow Comes to a Violent End."

Malcolm Shabazz was 28.
[H]e died early Thursday morning in a popular tourist area [in Mexico City] after being assaulted outside a bar, the authorities said. It was a violent end to a young and tumultuous life....

Mr. Shabazz... spent much of his life seeking to make peace with his past. After pleading guilty to the juvenile equivalent of manslaughter and arson in his grandmother’s death in 1997, he was sentenced to institutions for many of his teenage years, followed by later stints in prison for other crimes.
The grandmother was the widow of Malcolm X.

Hate to say, but it sounds like he did very little peacemaking or seeking.

David म्हणाले...

Hustler. Criminal. Habitual liar.

Hustled self into a NYT obit after doing nothing but harm in his life.

Just why did they write this?

madAsHell म्हणाले...

There was a report that he was defenestrated.

I've always found it amusing that we have a 50 cent word for pitching someone out the window.

Goodbye & good riddance.

What sort of person burns their own grandmother to death?

This was at best a deeply troubled individual; at worst an evil one. The manner of his end should come as no surprise.

Fiddy cent? Hell, that's three dollah!

His mom was charged with hiring a hit man to kill Farakan. I think it was some kind of weird FBI entrapment thing, with the guy soliciting to do the job trying to turn state's evidence to get a sentence reduction. That was why the kid ended up living with his grandma (Malcolm X's widow).

Doesn't really seem like it.

I would like to see this joking comment in its' full context:

After going to Los Angeles, Mr. Shabazz texted Mr. Stevens, joking that the people he was with in California did not like New Yorkers.

I've lost track of everybody but Rita X from Detroit.

rhhardin म्हणाले...

Rita X, sadly only a short sample.

You'd think the originals would be somewhere, from the late 90s, before I recorded Limbaugh though.

Isn't there some bible verse about the sins of the fathers being visited on the following generations?

William म्हणाले...

That's a very sympathetic obit. He helped his barber get a look see from a recod exec. So far as I can tell from the obit that was not just his top good deed but his only one. Very few people get to burn their grandmother to death and then get to express their admiration for Qaddafi in person and then get a sympathetic obit from The Times. What would he have to do to deserve a more disparaging adjective than "troubled".

William म्हणाले...

Alex Haley was a first rate writer. I have sometimes wondered if Malcolm X wasn't his greatest creation.

To quote the older Malcolm X who referred to John F Kennedy's assassination, This is a case of "the chickens coming home to roost."

As was the older Malcolm X's assassination by the way. Insensitive, maybe. But Malcolm X was the one who said it about JFK So why can't it be used against Malcolm just as insenitively.

Farrakhan and the honorable Elijah Mohammad silenced that fool by any means necessary.

In the case of the younger X, if you burn your grandma you don't get much sympathy.

Being black and a Muslim he'd have avoided an audit at least.

"David N. Dinkins, the former mayor of New York, and Percy E. Sutton, a former Manhattan borough president who had been Malcolm X’s lawyer, stepped in to represent him after the fire. Most recently, Cynthia McKinney, the former Democratic congresswoman from Georgia, said she “had taken him under my wings,” in an attempt “to help and look out for him.”"

Hard to believe his ending, what with those two heavyweights, Dinkins and McKinney behind him. Nothing screams intellect, achievements and integrity than those two.

Another black man who grew up without a father. The story often is the same and ends the same way.

Time for black men to help raise their children again.

What the fuck does that even mean?

And died "after being assaulted outside a bar" how curiously uhh...vague. Like maybe "died after a drug deal gone wrong"? Or maybe"died after he pulled a gun/knife on someone"?

rcocean म्हणाले...

"Time for black men to help raise their children again"

Yeah get to it black men. Cause white-boy 'mccullough' really cares.

He's concerned.

The real originals of Rita X would be from the late Mark Scott's show on WXYZ in Detroit, before Limbaugh's screener heard her and knew she was great radio. She'd left flipping crazy in the rear view eons ago but made for great radio.

So another thug bites the dust and gets a write up in the NY Times. I say, in the words of Malcolm X, a case of the chickens coming home to roost.

When I went to high school all of our sports teams had a cap with an "X" on it for Xaverian high school. I always wore mine when I was out and about.

Until the movie "MalcomX" came out ant then every brother had one and wanted to beef with you if you wore it while being white.
