At least the drone murder of American citizens made it onto the list somewhere. It's something to be thankful for that it's still allowed onto the list. This may not be the case forever even though the only thing a proper press would place above this outrage might be the impeachment and removal of the criminal responsible for it.
In the future, I hope that people that value freedom of the press, separation of powers, and accountability will think about that before they vote for any candidate that the press fawns over, or who has no resume of performance to judge how they handle power. This isn't American Idol, or Survivor.

Phx. We are actually paying attention to how low information voters become low information voters and to how now shrinking parts of the media are helping that process along. You, of course, already know this.
If it's a Time exclusive, that simply means the Oval Office arranged for them to run this story.
Distract, distract, distract.
If Time, The New York Times, or other sycophantic news organ soon releases an "exclusive" look at POTUS' college transcripts, you can bet your bippy there's a shit-ton more going on with these scandals that we currently know about.
Phx. We are actually paying attention to how low information voters become low information voters and to how now shrinking parts of the media are helping that process along. You, of course, already know this.
Y'know, this is just how it went down during Watergate, as I recall.
The deeper the mess went and the more the modified, limited hangouts failed, the more the MSM dug up really old, non-relevant stuff to make Nixon look all warm & fuzzy and lovable.
I think that all Americans believe that Obama targeted the Tea Party, a powerful and growing grass roots Republican movement that threatened his re-election and that he used supposedly impartial Federal agencies against the Party.
Here's my reason for saying this:
If everyone didn't think they knew exactly what happened then we'd be living in a Kafkaesque situation where no one at the top ordered any wrongdoing or knew anything about any wrongdoing and everyone at the bottom did nothing except what they were ordered to do. Yet the whole group, top to bottom, admits that something illegal happened or has, at least, been confessed to by someone who however (she says) did no wrong though she has taken the Fifth about what she did. It's the very definition of Kafkaesque but it isn't bothering anybody. Why? Because everyone knows what happened then (Abuse of power) and what is happening now (Coverup). This is bureaucratic ass-covering and it is not Kafkaesque to the American people at all. In fact, it is interesting in a grotesque way closely resembling the interest of recent anti-government movies or movies like Inception. Only it is simpler than all of them and it isn't about who is lying. It's interesting because everyone knows the President is lying but ... will they get him and if they can't get him then who will take the fall? And why? Or will it be the Constitution that falls?

A few years ago I scanned several thousand slides ranging from the 1930's (early Kodachrome) to the late 1970's. In that pile was one of myself and my date for "Senior Formal" in what had to be 1973/74. For the most part, old slides darken over time, and some become like welder's glass (or a 400x ND filter). No such luck in this instance. A shot of me in a rented tux, with my date (who I remembered as being more naturally beautiful than that), sent chills up my spine when I saw it more than three decades later. I had a five o'clock shadow, bad haircut, a stupid grin and plenty of red-eye effect. Just makes-you-want-to-crawl-under-the-table awful.
On the other hand, even if I had not destroyed it, no one else has a photo like that. It will never come back to haunt me and Time will never go trawling for it.

I trust the US military, probably the only Federal institution with any integrity, will target actual terrorists or their supporters rather than some innocent citizen having a cup of tea in Islamabad.
If there is evidence that the military has gone rouge like the IRS and targeting American citizens for political reasons then I will cheerfully recant.
The drone strikes on Americans thing is a non-starter. Sorry, but most Americans are untroubled by terrorists like Anwar Al-Aulaqi and Samir Kahn getting the Hellfire treatment.
And, to drill down a little further, what's the alternative, exactly? Should we send special operations troops into the hornet's nest to grab these guys and bring them back so that the same people who are complaining about drone strikes can complain about the slow administration of justice once they're on trial?
Me, I'm pretty happy that people like Al-Aulaqi and Kahn have been blown up. I wish the drone pilots luck in bagging more of these fuckers.
"And you trust THIS administration to be honest about if they were hanging out with jihadists before being killed?"
Anwar Al-Aulaqi: Jihadi, tied to several of the September 11th hijackers, the Fort Hood shooter, and the underwear bomber.
Samir Khan: Jihadi. Editor of the Al Qaeda magazine Inspire and wrote an instruction manual for jihadis. Happened to be killed hanging out with Al-Aulaqi in Yemen.
Jude Mohammed: Jihadi. Connected to the Raleigh Group, a cell which planned a bombing on the anniversary of September 11th, traveled to Pakistan to join militants there. Was captured by Pakistani government but "escaped". Not deliberately targeted, but no reason he shouldn't have been.
Abdulrahman Al-Aulaqi: Anwar Al-Aulaqi's son. Not a jihadi and not deliberately targeted. Collateral damage in a strike aimed at jihadis in Yemen.
I think that this administration sucks and to say that I'm not a fan of President Obama would be putting it mildly. But, let's face it, your position is built on 100% pure liquid shit.
I cant find if he is related to the late Ted Sorensen... legendary Kennedy speech writer.
Wikipedia says Ted Sorensen had three sons but doesn't give names.
What does that go to do with Obama and the prom photos?
Well, I'm glad you ask.
On March 9, 2007, he [Ted Sorensen] spoke at an event with then-Senator Barack Obama at New York City's Grand Hyatt Hotel and officially endorsed him for the presidential election in 2008.[13][14][15] Very active in his campaign, Sorensen spoke (early-on and) frequently about the similarities between both Senator Barack Obama's and Senator John F. Kennedy's presidential campaigns. He also provided some assistance with President Obama's 2009 Inaugural Address.
"When a U.S. citizen goes abroad to wage war against America – and is actively plotting to kill U.S. citizens; and when neither the United States, nor our partners are in a position to capture him before he carries out a plot – his citizenship should no more serve as a shield than a sniper shooting down on an innocent crowd should be protected from a swat team."
- Obama
Now and then, even a blind squirrel identifies a nut.
I don't think its hard for the Navy to send in the Seals for an actual op rather than killing by drones for the few Americans who are actually fighting with the terrorists.
They wouldn't actually take them into custody, but that way at least you have the appearance of engaging in war. Even if its a defacto assassination, we the government have shown up and said, "hey we want you dead." Boom!
I don't think that Obama trusts the military enough to do it that way though --- he prefers that abstract drone strike.
Considering that the Navy Seals jump at the chance to do those ops and that they're pretty good at them . . . yeah, I don't buy the American lives factor, especially for the small number of times it would be necessary.
Those are the kind of missions the Navy Seals were trained for. None of those guys were in a fortress surrounded by hundreds or thousands of troops. They were hiding out (kind of like Osama).
I'm not against all drones, but I do think there should be some extra steps taken when it involves an American citizen.
"I don't think its hard for the Navy to send in the Seals for an actual op rather than killing by drones for the few Americans who are actually fighting with the terrorists."
I think that it's a waste of professional, well-trained troops--American lives--to drop our special operations assets into highly dangerous missions just because an American might be there. I see no reason to put the lives of Americans on the line just so that jitbag terrorists who happen to be American citizens can get special treatment.
As far as the appearance of war? I don't know, dropping a fucking Hellfire on a bunch of asshole murdering fucks sounds a lot like war to me.
Look, I'm a Republican, I'm no fan of President Obama, and I think that this administration is corrupt as hell. However, my dislike of Obama and his chickenshit administration has not clouded my vision to the point that I'm unable to see how blowing up terrorists is a good thing.
And let's cut the shit here: If Republicans were in office right now and Democrats were bitching about drone strikes, the same people who are now all anti-drone would all be pro-drone. Every last one of them. Don't pretend that this position is even remotely principled.
I disagree. And I think Rand Paul would care no matter who was President.
As to not using drones because there might be an American on the ground. I think that is being too cautious. I think most are willing to have some collateral damage. Putting an American on a drone kill list is an entirely different situation. Keep good standards and there won't be a the chance of a slippery slope.
And there are many of us who are entirely fed up with both parties' power grabs and really just want to see things done right, because, well, you never know who might be declared an enemy next.
I will admit I didn't think too much about these things when they were originally happening circa 2003. I was fairly young and had a lot more trust in our political leaders. But 10 years have passed and it has taught me to have a healthy amount of skepticism for all of our political leaders, regardless of what letter comes after their name.
Having been at Punahou with "Barry" I think the portrayal in the picture is pretty accurate. He had a typical upper class life and his claims of persecution and bias are unlikely; he passed as Hawaiian or Fijian. I couldn't pass as a redhead. (Not the one who touched his hair!) He was in my sister's class; he was the typical stoner basketball player. If his background was as closely parsed as Republicans he'd be hard pressed to explain his choices.

On the off chance that you come back to this thread again, I have a question for you. You write in one of your posts, "[Special Operators] wouldn't take them into custody," which suggests that terrorists who happen to be American citizens in foreign lands would be killed under your plan.
Then, later, you write, "Keep good standards and there won't be a the chance of a slippery slope."
So it's okay for special operators to gun down American citizens without a trial, but it's not okay to drop Hellfire missiles on them? I mean, the result is the same either way, right? They're killed, not taken into custody, so, what's the difference? Because, from my perspective, the only difference is that, by dropping American soldiers in to do the job, you give Joe Jihadi the chance to put get in a lucky shot.
And yeah, I honestly think that even Senator Rand Paul wouldn't be pressing this issue if a Republican president was in office. His dad might still do it, but even so, he has been a lot more vocal about... well, everything... since President Obama got into office.

So where are these people in his administration?
Another big step in his fight up from the streets.
Notice when scandals hang in the air, they go deeper into his real strength, which is Obama the Boyfriend.
Come on white suburban women, Barry would be a good date! He's so witty, and cool, charming and a good guy.
I'm with Ann on this, can't we just leave these emotions and parts of the human psyche, the celebrity as far away from the Presidency as possible?
Time magazine is really cutting edge with the investigative reporting.
Wow, they really really are scraping the bottom of the barrel to paint a positive image of Urkel, the Kool President.
In the President's defense, he probably wrote that note while high.
Once you go Black, you never ...!
Was he mackin on his best bud's gf in that yearbook?
What a historic document. Obama's first attempt at hypovehiculation.
I wonder if the 99% of black women would have been so enthused about President Foodstamps if these photos of his love for the snowflakes was out.
They probably would, they like handouts more than they hate white women taking "their" men.
What is that around his neck?
Choom?
John Henry
He looked like a tool in 1979 as well.

..and easy access to drugs. A dreamboat!
From the article:
Barry spent his days at the Punahou School in Hawaii studying, shooting hoops and goofing off with his friends.
I thought he spent his days smoking dope and goofing off with his friends.

Not different than now although he probably substituted cigarettes for pot.
He took a nice fun prom photo.
Hard to believe that nice-looking young man would grow up to clusterfuck the Constitution into oblivion.
You'd think Time might be interested in the Executive Branch ordering the assassination of American Citizens overseas.
Maybe when Time employees are on the receiving end of a Drone the Magazine will care. Too little, too late.

No that there's anything wrong with that.
Wish he had stuck to it.
As for Barry's smile, it is that charm that wins the day. That is a narcissist's main way of manipulating their narcissistic supply.
Don't you want him?? Then do whatever he assigns to you as your role. He will be watching your reaction closely.
At the top of Memeorandum right now, we see this snapshot of what America is paying attention to:
It's what Memorandum and Althouse readers are paying attention to.
So, Obama has killed more American citizens with drones (4) than the number of terrorists Bush waterboarded (3).
At least he is not in one of those hideous white, beige, yellow, etc. tuxedo's so popular in prom's during the late 1970's. Aren't you just a little jealous knowing he will be getting some later that night, unlike you after your prom?
Watch...Obama's going to meet with the old lady who found her lost dog on live TV.
Big hug with the old white lady!

Yay!

Lol, only dipshits went to the prom.
There is also that incessant "He's just like you," or "He's no different than you," crap going on the first paragraph.
Apparently phx doesn't know how Memeorandum works.
No, I don't. Sorry. Shouldn't have commented.
I am so glad that I let my Time subscription lapse in March.

I'm probably being dense again - this probably wasn't directed at me although I did vote for Obama - I have no idea what the Cedarford comment means.
Big hug with the old white lady!
I think she's Hispanic! Even better! Amnesty and all!
Maybe when Time employees are on the receiving end of a Drone the Magazine will care. Too little, too late.
Time employees more likely to be on the receiving of an intimidating wiretap. Aider, abettor, co-conspirator!
I remember during Watergate when Time published Nixon's prom photos.
It's a tradition at Time.

That means everyone in my high school class (59 total) was a dipshit. We all went.
Seems pretty much right.

The girls in the prom photo were very cute. I wonder which one Barry was tapping at the time.

No shit! Some things never change.
Remember all media's nice soft sweet stories about Romney and his immensely charitable side...?
TIME = Proof Journalism is dead.
The Lefties better hope this isn't true:
About half of all Americans, including a quarter of Demos, think Choom out to be impeached if the scandals are valid.
Huh. Obama went to prom with Rusty from National Lampoon's European Vacation. Sweet.
"CNN has its tornado in Oklahoma filibuster going 24/7 into day 3 now."
To be fair, they have occasionally broken away from the tornado story to relay some super-important Jodi Arias news.
So, if Ft. Hood is being acknowledged as being a result of extremism, is it no longer "workplace violence"?
Dazed and Confused.
That's not such a bad prom photo for the 1970s. Could have been much worse.
This Time tidbit is by guy named Adam Sorensen...
I remember the Kennedy endorsement of Barack as the clearest signal as to who was going to get the nomination.
Ted Sorensen had been in the Obama camp a year earlier.
Son of Ted Sorenson?
No wonder these guys see White Privilege everywhere.
Ted Sorensen was Adam Sorensen's Uncle Ted.
At least he is not in one of those hideous white, beige, yellow,
Mine was a light mint green. To match my beautiful hazel-green eyes. My date's dress was yellow.

You don't want to give him credit for simply wanting to save American lives, huh?
Man, look at his eyes.
Dude is so stoned. Huffin' de ganj wit de big boys!
"At long last" love has arrived
And I thank God you're alive
You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off of yoooooo
Progressive mass swoon.
Ah looove yooo baaaaby
[So embarrassing.]
I think Youngblood makes some good points.
@ Youngblood
And Birches has some good points too.
Having been at Punahou with "Barry" I think the portrayal in the picture is pretty accurate. He had a typical upper class life and his claims of persecution and bias are unlikely; he passed as Hawaiian or Fijian. I couldn't pass as a redhead. (Not the one who touched his hair!)
He was in my sister's class; he was the typical stoner basketball player. If his background was as closely parsed as Republicans he'd be hard pressed to explain his choices.

Thank god you approve.

Benghazi?
Thank god you approve.
I see you're trolling me in multiple rooms.
Another phx fanboi.
Birches,
On the off chance that you come back to this thread again, I have a question for you.
SWEET! I couldn't have said it better myself! Keep up the great work.
