The sheriff says a "soft on crime court system" puts armed criminals back on area streets, but that residents can get a gun to protect themselves. This is similar to a PSA last month that got a lot of attention around the web.
"Now it's the crook who has to wonder what you might do," Clarke says. "It could be a great equalizer, but you always have to think survival."

Is he elected, or appointed? If appointed, any thoughts on how soon he'll be fired?
But take a gun class, and above all, do not listen to Joe Biden's advice!
The Milwaukee paper's website to which Ann links turned the audio ad into a video, using a photo of Clarke on a horse, apparently to try to make him look silly (here).
So I did a version using more macho-looking photos of Clarke, and also including illustrations of the liberals' "catch and release" policy in Milwaukee for crooks, and of the new gun law -- on YouTube here:

He's elected; in the past has run as a Democrat. Bio here:

"I think it's fundamental that we start to respond, recognizing that the rights of communities are every bit as important as the rights of individuals," Flynn said.
Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn
Could someone get Chief Flynn a copy of the Constitution.
I'm getting to like your Sheriff Clarke.
For those interested in the anti-gun activities of Milwaukee police chief Ed Flynn, here's a video of his recent heated exchange with Sen. Lindsey Graham:

Here are a couple local TV reports on Flynn's Senate appearance:

And here's a report on Flynn's recent statement that assault weapons create "slow-motion mass murder" in Milwaukee:

You sure know how pick em Wisconsin. LOL. At least he wasn't talking about penis envy this time. What a fucking clown.
I'm with Big Mike.
I especially like the line, "Now it's the crook who has to wonder what you might do".
Only one other law enforcement officer said it better.
"I know what you're thinkin', 'Did he fire six shots - or only five'?. Well, truth to tell, I've sort of lost count my self, so you need to ask yourself one big question, 'Do I feel lucky'. So, how about it?
Do you feel...lucky?".
Why would the picture of him on a horse make him look silly? He looks good on a horse.
We will probably be able to keep our guns, we just won't have bullets.
Is it really true that about 2-3 weeks after Sandy Hook the coroner said the kids were killed with handguns?
So this push is a lie?
So is Sheriff Clark telling the black community to arm themselves too? I kind of doubt it.
"Is it really true that about 2-3 weeks after Sandy Hook the coroner said the kids were killed with handguns?"
No, but they still haven't released much information since the first few days after the shooting.

What are you trying to say exactly?
I like the way the paper covered the actual story for less than half the article and then dedicated the rest of it to lauding the gun controller, Flynn, whom they had actually introduced in the first paragraph.
Inga, why would you think Sheriff Clarke objects to law-abiding citizens of any color owning guns? It's the law-abiding members of the black community who suffer more from gun violence than anybody else in Milwaukee.
Your comment says more about you than it does about Clarke. What it says is not good.
It's a mistake to disarm or otherwise hinder law-abiding members of a community to defend their unalienable Rights. There is no legitimate reason to further empower the criminal minority.
The correct way to process this is to presume innocence. In order to enjoy liberty, people must be willing to accept responsibility for their actions. Therefore, whether a private citizen or a member of a state apparatus, each man and woman should be held to the same standard of liability and accountability.
The criminal minority should not enjoy a privilege to conduct involuntary exploitation without accountability. A law abiding member of a community should not be required to await a late reactive response from a state sponsored security apparatus.
Law abiding members of a community should enjoy at least as much right to preserve life and property as does a government agent, a government-armed member of a criminal cartel, or a government-armed member of a terrorist organization.
So, BP, if he ran as a Dem, he's become a dreaded Apostate! He mussst be eliminated!
ARE the rights of communities every bit as important as the rights of individuals like the guy in the article claims?
I suppose it's easy to be pro-community rights and pro-individual rights *equally* until the moment they are in conflict. And then one of them has to come out as more important than the other.
Just think of all the wonderful things we could do if the rights of the community are more important than the rights of individuals.
Could we justify limiting speech that weakened the community or caused discord? Could we force people to work at "essential" jobs even if they wanted to quit? Could we keep dumb people from voting? Could we stop people from divorcing? Stop gays from marrying? Force all children into approved schools? Forbid any language but English spoken, even at home? Force church attendance?
Is there anything we couldn't do "for the community?"
The public service announcement is awesome. I can hear heads popping just listening to it.
I suppose that makes me a mean person, or something.
