Reeva's cousin, Sharon Steenkamp, told the Associated Press news agency the family did not oppose the airing, saying: "Her last words to us personally was that she wants us to watch it.""It" is a TV realty show called "Tropika Island of Treasure." Reeva Steenkamp is the woman Oscar Pistorius is accused of murdering.

"We felt that it was important for people to know that there was more to the narrative of Reeva than an exceptionally beautiful girl in a bikini."
"... that she was strong and vibrant and funny and lovely and that this is a tragedy on an unspeakable level."

"Leggy Model Killed By Legless Man."
Some headlines write themselves.
If the prosthetic doesn't fit you must acquit.
But most importantly how can we turn this story into a way to take guns from law abiding citizens? There must be some new gun law we could pass to have stopped this right?
First his legs, now you take away Pistorius' right to arms?
I'm interested in what people think of airing a reality show featuring the murder victim.
""We felt that it was important for people to know that there was more to the narrative of Reeva..."
She is already a 'narrative': next, no doubt, will be "example", followed by "a lesson to be learned."
"more to the narrative of Reeva than an exceptionally beautiful girl in a bikini."
Can't quite put my finger on why the word "exceptionally" in this quote puts me off. She was more than a model, but also -- hey -- she was better looking than most bikini models?
Would the tragedy be less if she was just "beautiful" rather than "exceptionally beautiful", bikini-wise?
Re: "I'm interested in what people think of airing a reality show featuring the murder victim."
My guess is there will be more bikinis than reality in said show.
That said, it isn't like the footage is from paparazzi climbing over walls with telephoto lens -- it was a job where she was paid to be viewed.
If she modeled coats for the LL Bean Catalog I wouldn't expect a controversy over whether the catalogs were mailed out or not.
Should we worry it's exploitative? I don't see a problem, provided the reality show was filmed before she was a murder victim.
I watched Tropika Island of Treasure earlier tonight, it was shot over a week in Jamaica and consisted of a group of pretty people competing for a million Rand ($114 000) by doing a series of quite silly tasks. The public broadcaster inserted three tributes to Reeva during the show. Prior to its start there was a short insert about her humble background growing up on a farm, the sporting success she attained until breaking her back, learning to walk again, and then getting a full academic bursary for a law degree and coming in the top 5% of her class.
Reeva Rebecca Steenkamp was a whole lot more than just a pretty girl in a bikini.
It appears that Pistorius was an avoidant personality type. He is now rid of her for good. Her beauty had no affect on him.
Reeva's cousin, Sharon Steenkamp, told the Associated Press news agency the family did not oppose the airing, saying: "Her last words to us personally was that she wants us to watch it."
Is that to say she didn't die immediately and said that after being shot?
Or did she just say that the last time they spoke before she was shot?
If the latter, kind of weird phrasing it that way.
Important? Not sure about that, but, apparently, it shows this girl in a good light.

Well, that is reality, after all, but, if the family wants the world to see what was taken from them, I can't say I blame them.
PS What part of Jamaica, U?
I'm interested in what people think of airing a reality show featuring the murder victim.
You just don't get it, do you? It's the murder victim in a bikini.
So...what do you think of law grads going on reality shows?
Beats the practice of law?
Or a waste of their precious education?
She was not known as a lawyer. She was known as a bikini model. This, therefore, is the proper way to acknowledge her body of work. I also think it would be fitting if the SI bikini team wore a black armband at all their public appearances to honor her untimely passing. Any time a bikini model dies the world is a poorer place. In a better world there would be more bikini models than lawyers.
