"Flip Your Classroom" indeed. After 36+ years in classrooms from elementary to high school I'm here to tell the world that schools worked best when we beat the students with large pieces of wood for minor infractions. I'll say this: The WWII generation of school teachers and administrators used to drive me nuts but by God they knew how to run public schools. After facing japanese and German bullets being frightened of 14 year olds wasn't part of the program.

Am I the only one who is unsettled by this publication of purchases? I may have been inclined to support this in the past, but knowing that my purchases are known to others and then published here make me think I'll just keep my anonymity in my Amazon business transactions.

Skyler ... heh, not sure the system tracks who bought what when. Very recently I purchased three watch bands, via Althouse Amazon link, for shits & giggles...e.g., to see if my Amazon experience had improved after saying I'd prefer a root canal to Amazon. I did not see any reportage of my purchases by Meade...maybe I missed it.

Yep, I was able to find the bands I wanted, from the same vendor, but unable to purchase them in one order even slightly conveniently (a minimum dozen clicks to do each item just in the cart)...so yes, I paid the $7.50 shipping & handling twice...just like the last time I shopped via Amazon.

Amazon sucks and their database design, nearly flat tables, is so piss poor an idiot had to write the code & script. Of course, their vendors don't mind collecting double and triple S&H fees.

I believe in supporting the sites I frequent daily, and I do, for various sites, by direct contribution...fuck Amazon's gimmicks, it's a scam anyway. I can use PayPal with about 2 clicks and done.

I'll leave the Amazon, Groupon, Ideeli, and other bullshit hustle sites, to my better half, who has more patience than me, as well as more money to be stupid with.

Ahhhhh...now I feel better.

We have no way of knowing who purchases what unless you want to come into the comments and claim it which, of course, you're free not to do and leave it all anonymous.

Nope. I've said before I find it on the level of a sleazy carnival barker or sweaty palmed used car salesman who won't let you get out of the lot. No class. Low class. Skeezy.

If I had a desire to buy from Amazon through this portal, it has been killed by the huckster atmosphere. I don't mind a little subtle advertising and discussion of products but the incessant and omnipresent links to every product under the sun strewn throughout the articles in a formerly intelligent blog along with the chortling over pennies....well.... just pathetic.

But that is me. Others find it amusing.

Can you tell was your grand total is every month? You must be making close to $100 per day.

IIRC, associate link cookies last 24 hours on their own, but if you put something in the shopping cart, they last 90 days.

So if you do a search from an Althouse amazon link or search box, put the item in your cart, then worry that your purchase for Micro-Heated Nipple Clamps and Hello Kitty Alarm Clock will go public, and then return by some other method and buy the items within 3 months, the blog still gets paid (and your purchase still might go public in a generic way).

@DBQ I think it's Meade Money, hence the atmosphere, but that's me.

"Huckster atmosphere"?

You pay nothing for this blog and written during A-house's free time.

Don't get mad at Althouse for being a capitalist.

I buy a lot of stuff through amazon and have used the portal before. I wonder if you're getting a commission from all the Kindle books I buy? If you got a commission for a $99 aerobed yesterday or the day before then that was me.

Some of the above comments really tick me off. If people provide a service I enjoy/need then I am glad they get paid. From now on I am only buying through the "Meadhouse portal". Some of you need to lighten up!

I don't care if someone else makes money. I used to, but I got over it. Envy is one of the seven deadly sins, and one of the most dangerous in my mind.

@Nick

Branding is part of capitalism.

I think it was A & F who paid Jersey Shore's "situation" to please STOP wearing their clothes.

You can make the same money (yay capitalism!) without overtly hawking things and ruining the atmosphere. Hey I know! What about a blink tag? Retro!
