Introduction:

"Is he really playing music with Tchaikovsky?"

"There he is; let's ask him!"

"Hey Ricky, are you really playing in Tchaikovsky's orchestra?"

"Uh-huh!"

"Gee, it must be great up on stage with him. Are you performing tonight?"

"Un-unh."

Tchaikovsky’s Cannonball [set to the 1812 Overture]
By Richard Perlmutter

The crowds were cheering at the concert hall

The night Tchaikovsky shot a cannonball

It was the loudest cannon that you’ll ever hear

It was so loud it even shook the chandelier

The crowds were cheering for a curtain call

The night Tchaikovsky shot a cannonball

The drum and bugle player jumped op on a seat

They hoped and prayed it wouldn’t fall down on their feet

Trumpets were blaring, everyone staring

Critics declaring, “daring, daring!”

Then it exploded!
Boy it was loaded!

What a crash it stopped the show

It landed in the seventh row

Tchaikovsky’s cannonball

Blew up the concert hall

But everyone could see

The guy made history

That the great Tchaikovsky’s cannonball

That’s all!

You should see the Looks one gets when exuberantly sharing candy cigarettes with minors.

अनामित म्हणाले...

Maybe they will make candy E-cigs for kids nowadays.

As one recording exec observed, 2 sets of 15 year old twins - you could smell the estrogen.

Candy cigarettes and cap guns could make a game of 'Cops and Robbers' that much more exciting.

I was listening to Never Go Home Anymore just yesterday. As a teenager I was so overcome with angst the first time I heard it I cried. Yesterday it made me laugh. Nostalgia. Now to go listen to Ode to Billy Joe.

अनामित म्हणाले...

"Ode to Billy Joe.": better yet, watch the movie.

Ahhh, Robby Benson and Glynnis O'Connor: the Seventies were a different time.

And best left forgotten.

Wow.

Wrote and produced 'Remember...'

AND 'Too Much Too Soon'???

Farking allah that's more than enough for one musical career.

BTW - I think that Arrowsmith did a version of 'Remember...' too.

This made me go grab my copy of "Always Magic in the Air." Great book about the music writers of this era, Brill Building, etc. Looks like I'll be reading through it again.

It doesn't get any better than this.

Do NOT accept candy from strangers! Walk away (quickly) and if followed... run! Mace the persuer, if necessary, and create a lot of noise to attract assistance. At the last resort (especially if the persuer is banging your head into the sidwalk) you might have to shoot him.

"Mmm, he's good bad, but he's not evil."

Lesbian Candy Store. Suggestive pulling of taffy, etc etc.

Eric the Fruit Bat म्हणाले...

I was a little kid when I first heard "The Leader of the Pack." I disliked it immensely, immediately.

Fortunately, George Costanza would come along eventually and break the curse:

Anna: You know I'm not supposed to be talking to you.

George: No one's putting a gun to your head. Do I, uh, scare you?

Anna: No... a little. Nice car.

George: Yeah, she's a sweet ride.

Anna: Is that your orthopedic back pillow?

George: Maybe.

Anna: Well, is it or isn't it?

George: I Guess not.
