"The attorney who said he would sue the state of Connecticut for $100 million after the Newtown school shooting is withdrawing his potential lawsuit..."

"... at least for now."
Irving Pinsky, who said Saturday he was filing the suit as a way to improve school safety, told the Connecticut Post that he’s received new information about security at Sandy Hook Elementary School and wants to review it....
"We all know its going to happen again," Pinsky said last week. "Society has to take action."
Oh, Irving. Lawyers and their motives. What have you added to our thinking on the subject?

Highly publicized lawsuit filed in hours after an incident? The lawyer would be happy to take his share of the settlement or accept an offer to settle.

Ka-Ching! That's the sound of extortion.

mikee म्हणाले...

If his lawsuit has any merit, why withdraw it? I don't recall that public opinion gets to decide lawsuits. Judges and juries do that.

The name Pinsky derives from the Lechitic word for "sphincter."

If I were a more cynical person I might think that this suit and its subsequent withdrawal was nothing but a shameless publicity stunt by a rather shiftless individual with too much time on his hands. But that just couldn't be.

Seeing as how lawyers are so public minded, I'm sure he was working this lawsuit pro bone, wasn't he?

99% of the lawyers make the rest of them look bad.

He hasn't added anything, but he does remind us of what Shakespeare wrote.

wasn't it the western lawyer a. lincoln who recommended a man should be slow to sue? and a lawyer should first try to dissuade his client from embracing litigation?
old abe was pretty clever.

Wait a minute! If only the school had been a gun free zone then we would not have to worry about crushing lawsuits after a mass murder.....oh wait, errrrr, never mind.

I see nonapod has beaten me to it, but I have also been wondering if there really was a "Jill Doe" and family, or if Pinsky just made them up to get some publicity for himself and his practice.

I mean, there's probably no shortage of traumatized young pupils from that school who heard horrible things that day, and it seems like most of the Sandy Hook families are keeping to themselves. It's not like it would be easy to prove that no one actually hired this guy.

CWJ म्हणाले...

Hey Petunia,

That's a pretty interesting thought. He throws this out there as a trial balloon to see if and how many families call him wanting to be "added" to the suit. Who's to say which of them is Jill Doe. If no one calls he can drop it like he's done.

He avoids the ghoulish behavior of actually contacting these families to ask if they would be interested in some Sandy Hook money.

The lawyers have learned that humans who serve as judges and jurors are also easy to persuade with the argument that "A Horrible Evil Has Happened, So someone must be Blamed."

With that feeling abroad in the land, the lawyers count on solvent defendants to negotiate a settlement to avoid trial even when there is no legal precedent to tap them. Humans in the Judicial System might create a new one!

Also see, Penn State blamed monetarily for crimes of Sandusky and Paterno.

The most important thing about the Daily News' Newtown story is the accompanying petition to urge Congress to ban assault weapons.

So I ask myself:
"Self, is it the newspaper's job to report news or to influence legislation?"

Then it occurs to me that these liberals are living among the largest collection of guns (especially the illegal black-market-guns) in America which they have been ignoring for how long?

Obviously the NY Daily News does not read recent news about the rifle deaths in the U.S.

"FBI data shows that the total number of deaths at the hands of rifles declined by nearly 30 percent — from 453 to 323 — between 2007 and 2011. In 2011, rifles were responsible for only 2.6 percent of the 12,664 murders that were reported by law enforcement agencies across the nation."

That, my friends, has happened since the last assault weapons ban expired. I guess nobody told the guns that their banning was over.

Rosalyn C. म्हणाले...

In my liberal enlightened community the city council will be issuing a symbolic gesture condemning assault weapons in response to the tragedy in CN. There is no intention to improve school safety however. I suppose no one here imagines something like that could ever happen here. When I read about that lawsuit I thought, good, perhaps the threat of a major $100 million dollar lawsuit, if not student safety, might motivate my city council to take the danger more seriously.

Petunia म्हणाले...

Ooh, CWJ, I hadn't thought of Pinsky's trolling for additional families to join "Jill Doe's" lawsuit. I figured he was just doing it to get attention...but I bet your theory is more likely.

There is no other explanation for lawyers like Pinsky.

Can anyone explain that there was a twenty minute delay in police actually showing up to check a report of "shots fired", inside a grade school. I'm just a pore dumb redneck out here in rural northeast Texas but it would not take our small town cops and deputy sheriffs twenty minutes, yet that is the time line that the local LEOs put out.

And I have seen no politicos or big time news organs questioning this twenty minute lag time while someone is shooting Kindergartners and First Graders.

I do not want to hear one damned word about my guns until this is explained.
