C-Span is sorry it wrote "Just Plain Dick" and "I Want You to Shut the F#ck Up" at the top of your screen.

"Now on C-SPAN2: Just Plain Dick" appeared on screen at 1:30 a.m. ET on January 1 as Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA) was speaking in the Senate:

Some people thought C-SPAN had been hacked, but it was just doing its usual thing of cutting away from scheduled shows when there's action on the floor of the House or Senate. The "Now on C-SPAN2" caption referred to a scheduled show, which was a BookTV interview with Kevin Mattson about his book "Just Plain Dick: Richard Nixon’s Checkers Speech and the 'Rocking, Socking' Election of 1952."

"I Want You to Shut the F#ck Up" was another accidentally apt book title that captioned congressional blabbery.

But it is funny.

Yes. How very clever and funny.

C-SPAN needs to develop a younger audience; this may help.

These are serious people saying serious things in our nation's capital. I find it insulting behavior, shameful and appalling, I am aghast and you are despicable for bringing it up.

I find watching C-Span slightly less interesting than a seminar on vinyl flooring but more shenanigans like this and I might actually tune in every once in a while.

I, too, want Tom Harkin to shut the fuck up.

Who would complain about something like that? Seriously!

I would tell them to get a life that isn't so very very serious.

Speaking of "I wish you people would shut up about this", have you seen this?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-shuster/time-for-david-gregory-to_b_2393613.html

Shuster thinks Gregory should be able to 'apologize', and then the DC Police can 'save face and move on'. Like somehow that'll make Gregory getting preferential treatment not matter anymore.
Also, please note that Shuster can't just say "Anyone else would have been arrested", oh no, he comes out with this:
After all, would an African-American in Southeast D.C. who violated a gun law -- and wouldn't acknowledge it -- get a break? Of course not.
A: If he thinks someone being white or yellow or whatever would prevent the DC PD from jailing them on this, he's a fool. Or being a dissembling basterd.
B: If he actually thinks someone else 'acknowledging' they knowingly broke this law would get them a break, he really IS a fool.

That's Harkin, all right.

i find it funny that they had "I Want You to Shut the F#ck Up" instead of the usual "have a conversation about ..."

Anthony म्हणाले...

Why can't we spell out "fuck", like our hostess has suggested before?

Oh - the book is actually titled "I Want You to Shut the F#ck Up", with the octothorp. But the article you linked to says "Shut The F**k Up", and the text uses hyphens instead of asterisks. And there's no screencap of that title, just the Tom Harkin Just Plain Dick screencap. So we don't know what actually was put on the screen. Nor do we know who was speaking during the "Shut the fuck up" captioning.

Well, it is Tom Harkin, so the captions aren't a bad thing.
