Cheer up about your genitalia.
Constructing the last post, I ran across this other Planned Parenthood video, which is nicely done (but NSFW). (Teased at PP's Facebook page like this.)

My favorite Planned Parenthood video.
My parents signed me out of sex ed because they didn't want the public schools teaching me about sex. This is a great video to watch while eating breakfast 0_o
Public service presentations are always dreck. This one is no different. (And I speak as a poor worker who's produced quite a few of them.)
Nothing in here that the kids can't learn from porn, and they are doing that.
The incredibly earnest attempt of the leftist adults to "educate" the children is unintentionally hilarious.
It's a females-only worry.
The correct message would be that guys are hard-wired not to care, not that you're not as weird as you imagine.
I dunno ST; I'd say that if teens are getting their idea of "normal" from porn, they're heading for disaster.
I'm no fan of PP, but that's a reasonably well-done video. I've been talking with my kids about the same concepts since they were small, but not everyone does.
Brush with Greatness: Mr. Burns' Portrait
Art Critic: He's bad, but he'll die. So I like it.
Mr. Burns: You know, I'm no art critic, but I know what I hate. And... I don't hate this.
Mr. Burns: Thanks for not making fun of my genitalia.
Marge Simpson: [sotto voce] I thought I did.
But what about that kid... finding drawings of pee-pees and wee-wees...
This is about that kid's right to read a book without getting his mind warped!
Or maybe that turns you on, Althouse. Maybe that's how you get your kicks. You and your good-time buddies. Well I got a flash for ya, joy-girl: Party time is over.
I can't imagine any teen finding much solace in this. When I was young, I wanted to be just like everyone else except better looking, smarter, and more popular. That didn' work out. I did succeed in having more acne than just about anyone else alive. However, the trick is to be different in a way that everyone envies. It's normal to be different and normal to feel wretched about most of the differences.
What's not normal is to depict a mutilated penis and call it normal but not show a mutilated vulva and call it normal.
Who died and made Planned Parenthood the arbiters of "normal"?
I must have missed out on a lot as a teenager. I never once wondered if my vulva or breasts were normal. However, I did worry a lot about getting my hair to curl in the appropriate way. My mother never had 'the talk" with me. I guess other values were instilled so that I didn't have sex as a high school student.
My own daughters both seem okay with their vulva though I guess I've never asked them directly. The oldest didn't have sex in high school, maybe she was suffering from vulva angst?

The Blonde's youngest nephew, at about age 4, was found by his father to have taken one of his mother's anatomy books (she's a nurse, too) and was staring intently at the page with all the pictures of pussies.
Very good video. Just in general anatomy understanding.
But again I never thought of other women's genitalia. I don't care about other women's genitalia. I would be more interested in knowing their is a difference in men's and what is normal.
I think they're trying to normalize Planned Parenthood.
"Cheer up about your genitalia"
You could be Chinese.
Kelly, I thought the same thing...I'm not sure I buy the premise that girls are preoccupied with their vulvas. But then it occurs to me that some people and organizations have a big stake in getting them to care: Eve Ensler needs her next audience, PP needs a new generation of customers, and the Democratic Party needs to be able to refer to the voting rights of those vulvas. So yeah, the kids and I probably won't be watching this one.
Do they not have gym in public schools anymore?
