The present cabinet must be about the least distinguished in US history, so that sort of makes sense.

The new treasury secretary will be incredibly important going forward. Will a serious person be put in there or a hack? A serious person will guide Obama away from his inner beliefs and not back down. Will Jarrett and crew let him pick such a person?

Van Jones is available. He's not qualified for the dejure position, but he wasn't for the last one either. Making a political activist rather than a scientist your climate change czar proves you understand climate change as a political issue rather than science.
Since under Obama the Treasury Secretary's job is figuring out how to force business to undertake leftwing activism, like instilling departments of political correctness in finance "regulation" bills, it seems he'd be a fine choice.

You are correct. I had the wrong assumption -- one where Obama wanted an effective TS in the traditional way. Van Jones would be the perfect fit for Obama's true perception of what the role should be.

Don't bet on it. This is the type of in-your-face move Obama relishes, and any Benghazi investigation is a complete dead end. All they have to do is stonewall, in complicity with the CIA, and point out that tending to the nation's economic problems is much more important, and that Republicans are being partisan, unpatriotic, and uncooperative. The final insult would then be to give Kerry SecDef.

We jokingly were talking about something like this at a wedding years ago. I conceded I was around 38% gay (since I'm neat, thin, and good with clothes and color!) My wife's gay best friend was then asked what he thought. He looked me up and down and said "75%."
He then said it was dumb to do because if haven't had sex with a man you were basically 0% gay.
So say she gets the nod against Kerry and then comes before the Foreign Relations whose chairman is Kerry and has been kissed off by Obama.

Obama is about to do a deal with Iran. Jarret has been "negotiating" with them and Rice would be the perfect front person.
I have wanted to visit Israel for a long time. It might be good to go while it still exists.
She is perfect for the job, just perfect. Worlds of experience (see the Wiki article on her re: not capturing OBL in the 90s!) Although John Kerry being French could be of help as well. Why not have Co-Secretaries.

After all the lying about Benghazi to the American people – Susan Rice should not even be considered a viable candidate. And the fact that she’s even in the running shows me that this is not a country that I can feel ‘invested in’.
Dear Obama, contrary to what you said, we are even MORE divided than we appear. And your divisive and derisive approach to running this country is one of the main reasons.
This is really bad news. Not only has Rice sacrificed her personal integrity to falsely proclaim a story she knew to be a lie, she appears to be rewarded for it. Thus, the Chicago Way is clearly demonstrated in Washington once again.
My wife is no fan of Sec. Clinton, but she admired Sec. Clinton's ability to appear "independent" of Pres. Obama during the Benghazi cover-up debacle. Now my wife will really despise Mr. Obama for removing the only "independent" voice in the cabinet. Another example of the Democrats' War on Women.
Ms. Rice is a (Political) whore. Worst than that her lies supported the enemies of the USA and constituted TREASON.
