I can see one of the Yorks' reaction, "OK, you threw it. now go get it, wise guy".

PS For the love of God, get that pup a doggie wetsuit.

My favorite dog-in-water fetch story comes, I think, from an issue of National Geographic where some Russians scientists were out doing field research in the Siberian wilderness.

They shot a duck for meat out on a Siberian lake. When they tried to send the dog out to retrieve it, Rover Rintintinovich decided that the water was too damn cold and he was not going in that lake after some dead duck.

One of the plucky Russians stripped down and swan out to get the duck in the ice cold water, swimming back with it in his teeth. All with photos, of course.

Now, that was courage.

My guess is that those Russian scientists were out of treats and unfortunately had turned their dog into a whore.

I saw a guy, on one of those CSPAN covered symposiums, tell the story of the first recipient... it might have been a book festival... the first social security recipient, back in the 30's paid one or two times into the new system, retired and lived to be over 100.

Thats it.

Took my Dad dove huntin' yesterday. He's lost 11 lbs. in just the past week because of the radiation treatments. We got there, and it was cold, in the 30's with a high wind.

I got his chair set out, his gun out, his snacks, water, and shells, got the dog out, and finally got him outta' the car and into his seat. I started to get my stuff out, when he said "It's too cold, I'm gonna' wait in the car 'til they start flyin'" So I packed him back into the car, and gave him the keys so he could start it up and keep warm.

Meanwhile, the dog had found some cow poop to roll around in.

So, after cleaning HER up, I sput her back in the car. Surprising me, the birds were flying very regular, and we had a good shoot.

My nephew, standing beside me got cold, and he went to sit with Dad. They both wanted to go home, so I packed everyones stuff up, and re-loaded the car.

Then my nephew announces he wants to stay. >:|

So I leave my nephew to our neighbor, who agrees to bring him home, and I bring Dad back home, unload the car, and go to my house. Had to go back this afternoon to finish unloading the car, and putting his hunting stuff up.

And this sort of thing used to bother the shit outta' me, but now that our time is getting short (because of his cancer) I was disappointed he didn't want to try to go again wednesday...in the snow.

So, I'm still very agitated Zero won, but it matters little in the bigger truth of who you love, and what you do.

Crossin' my fingers on this one, he's beaten the cancer 4 times so far...

Peace out. That's what I'm tryin'.

My mother told me that when SS began, her boss, a lawyer, paid her SS tax as a fringe benefit. The amount was so small. She lived to 103 and did not file for SS and Medicare until she was 77. We had trouble proving her age as she had been lying about her age since her 20s. Fortunately, her sister was still alive and SS accepted an affidavit.

She liked working and was angry when her employer told her she would have to retire because they would get into trouble with their company insurance. They told her that they knew she had to be over 65 because everyone who had worked there when she began had died.

I think I inherited her work genes. I hope my kids did as there will be no Social Security or Medicare when they are 65.

I also note that you and I are both sociopaths. We both list A Clockwork Orange as a favorite movie. Do you also have one of those large angry bust of Ludwig Van? The Ninth is your favorite too.

I'm just kiddin, the part about you being a sociopath.

Here's the "Chuckit" ball launcher (which comes with its own ball, though you could use any tennis ball).

I once designed and marketed a blue rock thrower attachment that would launch empty beer cans or kittens.

Walk the dogs past any tennis court and let them search the bushes. You'll get lots of tennis balls.

My dog has convinced me that tennis balls are a naturally occurring substance, and should be included in the Periodic Table.

I'm sure there's a Nobel prize coming my way.

My Siberian absolutely refuses to show any interest in a thrown ball or stick. She's not wild about swimming either, although she'll wade chest deep. And she has no concept of the idea of cold. No excuses accepted for not walking her on the beach.

How are you doing since all the surgery? It sounds like you get around better than either your dad or nephew. I'm glad to hear you're getting past the election.
Someone I respect advised me to stay happy, work for good things and accept what comes so I'm trying.

Carnifex ....best wishes for your dad and you. I'm in my first go round with radiation and cancer. Highly focused radiation treatments, so I've not undergone the results of wider radiation. Yet. So far, so good. Pneumonia has left a bigger scar over that past month. Damnit.

Robert Cook म्हणाले...

Lincoln wrote this in a letter to Col. William F. Elkins in November 1864:

“I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country….corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed.”

(From Salon.com)

Looks like Lincoln saw the future with astonishing accuracy. (Of course, as a lawyer tied to the railroad companies, he helped bring about the state of affairs he foresaw with such apprehension.)

"I finally saw Network last night. Perfect movie for someone who loathes television."

It is a great movie, and its critique applies to much more than just television. It is an attack on the corrupting influence of moneygrubbing--capitalism--on all human affairs: commercial, political, social, and personal.

Robert Cook म्हणाले...

Oh, and artistic.

McTriumph म्हणाले...

Speaking of TV, just caught the first ten minutes of Liz & Dick. It sucks bad, although LL cleans up really nice, I'd do her. Time to stoke up the Netflix thingy.

Lindsey Lohan is actually a very good actress. This is why her fall into tawdry misbehavior and apparent substance addiction is so tragic.

Sometimes the best way to teach a dog to enjoy the water is to expose them to it with another dog that loves it. Same with hunting, they learn.
