That wheat-pasted poster is actually quite revealing. Trying to use the voice of every man, it reveals contempt for the masses:

1.) Economists "promised us"...

2.) "We took out loans" for degrees and mortgages "we couldn't afford... pretending that we too were middle class."

3.) "There is no room for us at the top."

That last quote projects on most people the avaricious need to be "at the top". While maybe an aspiration for most people, its not a need or obsession.

But for the true believers in socialism, it's the whole ball game.

Watching the morning news about the "spontaneous" strikes/walk-outs of employees at Walmart on Black Friday.

NOT ONE of them mentioned that they were organized and bankrolled by the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union.

Why not? Most of the workers in the major media are organized under Newspaper Guild/CWA or AFTRA. They can and do suppress news that is unflattering to the labor movement. And apparently the memo went out -- like Benghazi, the Walmart walkout was presented as a "spontaneous uprising" and not a manipulation of low-information people.

That said, I have no sympathy for Walmart. Target pays their workers even less, and yet they've been able to keep the unions out for 45 years. Walmart lacks the guile to be truly evil.

Dante म्हणाले...

OK, Ann, I refuse to shop at Amazon unless I absolutely need to, so I sent you a donation via pay pal. I have no idea what's appropriate, so I sent $30.00, which I assume is what a reasonable book would cost, or a subscription to a newspaper for a month. That's my justification, and I have no idea what's appropriate.

I like the whole forum here, not only your posts. Should I send some money to Bagoh and Crack too? They add a lot to this forum, or in Crack's case, did.

I read Crack's stuff sometimes, but frankly, it's a bit too abstract for me to appreciate. I've noted you've steered traffic to him from time to time, and I think that's great. Top Crack Quotation, something like "She is like a bird of prey looking for the next bit of flesh to rip off," and of course Romney's "Wan" smile.

Anyway, the whole thing is confusing to me. I'm not being snarky about it, I do not understand how it is meant to work. For instance, the paper on which you are publishing is from blogger, and I assume they somehow have managed to monetize the paper part of it.

So I do appreciate what you do, but would frankly rather send you a fruitcake (Just kidding!), or something other than mere $ that shows I really appreciate your time and energy. But if money does it, great.

In my view, writing, and getting comments backs, is self-exploration, trying to challenge ourselves against the world. So here are some things I'm mulling over in my own mind.

A) The obamaphone video. I do not find it racist at all. It seems to me it clearly calls out a failure of society. But, I'm starting to hear racial notes even in my own family, which I find quite disturbing, and I have to come up with a way of dealing with it.

B) The Farmer. He has challenged everyone here saying we are a bunch of whiners because we lost the election. How much of that is real, and how much of it is that I can't stand the expansion of the states rules into every aspect of our lives?

C) Bagoh. He is so clear in his writing: it takes me 8 sentences to say what he can encapsulate in 2, with more power. Plus, he is a great, warm man anyway.

D) It's not a prime topic, but I can see even here the subtle shift between "We are a rich country, and can afford all this shit" to "We can't afford all this shit, what are we going to do, and what does it mean for our children."

E) Uncomfortable ideas such as "The supreme court decided Roe V. Wade, so it's constitutional." I still have to understand that, it's on my list.

F) Loved the Drudgtapositions, and one comment I recall was that "If you do this long enough, you will play around with it."

I used to read the "Belmont Club," but the guy is to real, too powerful. I sent him a donation too.

Anyway, I hope you will continue on. My only complaint is the unaccountable leftists who say outrageous things to people. It merely seems to cement the viewpoints. The posters, I suppose, feel good because they feel good about getting under someone's skin.

Happy holidays.

The cluelessness is the least attractive trait of lefties. Of course, it is a tough competition but they just don't see the anteater coming while they are celebrating their victory over the other ants.

It's not a matter of "moderate Republicans" or conservative Republicans. We had a chance to try a change of direction while there was time to do it gradually and with the least pain. No, the left chose pain and pain it will be.

In a few years, when reality arrives, they will be protesting the pain but it won't matter.

The gods of the copybook headings always win.

Then the Gods of the Market tumbled, and their smooth-tongued wizards withdrew
And the hearts of the meanest were humbled and began to believe it was true
That All is not Gold that Glitters, and Two and Two make Four
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings limped up to explain it once more.

As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man
There are only four things certain since Social Progress began.
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fool's bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire;

And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!

Thanks! I appreciate the contribution and genuinely find it encouraging.

Back before I met Meade, he used to put in a $10 contribution from time to time, and we've often observed that if all the regular readers sent $10 once a year, it would really be impressive.

I've had readers give amounts like $5 or $10 and all the way up to $50 or $100. I've gotten $100 an impressive number of times actually. Maybe more than that occasionally. But there are people who keep doing what they probably picture as "subscribing." That's what Meade did in the old days. It's really nice for a writer to have the experience of being paid for writing, even as the reading itself is a big reward for me.

A little good news about Walmart:

A local Walmart donates their "about to expire" meat to the Wild Animal Sanctuary. Gorgeous steaks and all the good cuts. The volunteers take the meat, mix it with vitamins, freeze it into cubes and give it to the hundreds of carnivores living at the sanctuary.

I was given a behind the scenes tour of the place last summer. 720 acres of compassion and mercy- and it all started with the kindness of one man.

The stories behind many of the animals who are there are heart-breaking. The sanctuary turns away 90% of the requests to take on more animals.

I hate that. I couldn't remember the password for an account the other day, so I reset it instead of guessing. Then it asked me to choose a password and wouldn't accept the one I entered because it had already been used. (It was the one I'd just reset.) Obnoxious.

I have 63.

No, I do not have them memorized.

I keep them in a worddoc... in the computer... afraid to print it because it would defeat the purpose.

That reminds me of a senior where I work complaining she was having trouble printing her bank registration page... I had trouble myself explaining why the bank might not want her doing that.

I suggested she go to the bank in person and ask them for advise.

@Surfed, if you're still hanging around, it's called "chain-firing." Here's a link that describes how it happens and how to prevent it. People I know who shoot cap and ball revolvers in reenacting organizations (lots of such organizations in Virginia for both the Revolutionary War and Civil War) smear a layer of Crisco across the front of the cylinder and into the chambers as a measure to prevent chain-firing. As much soot as black powder leaves behind, the Crisco only makes cleaning the gun afterward that much more challenging I suppose.

As if you guys are the spice that drives this blog. Hardly. You're ideas are old, your execution is stale and rote. Your presumptions are that of a child, but please, do keep thinking that without you, this blog, nay, much less this world would be a dimmer place. ROFL!!! Your narcissism and hubris are never left wanting.

I have them in a rolodex on my desk. Each time they expire or I decide to change I just pencil line through the old password and write in the new one so I can look it up if I forget. I must have 40 or more.

The good thing about this method is that I have a history of old passwords, some go back 5 or more years, so I won't keep trying to repeat. The other good thing is that if I die or something, my husband can still get on the websites he needs [like the bank accounts, credit cards, IRS, Franchise tax board etc]. He'll be screwed when it comes to operating the remote controls, netflix, the roku box or anything else electronic or computer related. It's ok...I'll be screwed when it comes to fixing plumbing, or electrical stuff. I can never remember where the shut off valves are, start the gas powered weed eater, rototiller or remember how to reset the breakers. We are an inept team that does well together :-)

The Obamaphone woman.

Repulsive in so many ways. That she called it that. That she thinks it's free. That a supplier profited by mischaracterizing to low information customers, and now the woman gets free calls, yes, but she's obviously quite thick and unable to sort her affairs she WILL run up her calls beyond what is offered for free, she must because she called her free thing an Obamaphone and so now she will be actually buying free Obamaphones by paying the taxes tacked onto her calls not covered by her uncontrollable excessive talking.

But I think what Althouse found ugly about Republicans pointing all that out again is the way Limbaugh drives things on his show, I think, the portions of his show that I've heard can be obnoxious that way. Drive a thing over an dover an dover an dover until you're crazy. That's ugly. He probably did that with Obamaphone. She was pointing out Limbaugh iirc.

May I recommend a firefox/IE add-on called lastpass. It is also a stand-alone PC/Mac app and it's free. It stores all of your website passwords in one place. Does a ton of other things too.

A reason why it may not be a good idea to mention the Amazon link 'too often' also (as Althouse can and does speak for herself) might have to do with the possible accusation stated thus - "how can she on the one hand appear to criticize this when she is constantly hitting people up for dough"... or so the argument would go.
