"More email. 'Tell me something.' That's the subject line. He's like a stalker."

I say, and Meade says, "Who is he?" and I say, "He's a man named Barack Obama."

Here's the body of the message:
Millions of Americans are stepping up for this campaign right now.

I want to know if you're one of them:

Barack
my.barackobama.com. My Barack Obama? If you click on the link, the URL turns into a normal barackobama.com, so that feeling of going to a special place with your email boyfriend/stalker is lost. But there is a social media effect — a little Facebook icon and next to it the notation "[2 names of actual Facebook friends of mine] and 27,600,417 others like this." Arrayed beneath that notation are little thumbnail photos of some of my Facebook friends — people I know — smiling for whatever reason and not because they anticipated their image being appropriated for a campaign fund-raising web page.

The email said "Millions of Americans are stepping up for this campaign right now," and then when I clicked, I saw people I know, snagged from Facebook. And the President of the United States wants to know if I'm "one of them" — which gives me a whole "Freaks" vibe. I picture all my Facebook friends going one of us, one of us, one of us...

Gooble gobble.

I notice that Ann gets a lot of emails from Obama and the Dems, but I haven't seen any that she has received from the GOP. Why is Romney & the Republicans blatantly ignoring one of the top-listed conservative bloggers?

Tim म्हणाले...

Obama and his supporters have cornered the market on pathetic, transitory cults.

Ok. So one joins the cult in the vain hope that somehow, someway, despite all previous evidence to the contrary, the federal government is going to fix one's pathetic life. But then it turns out the cult leaders is an epic failure, way above his head, except for when it comes time to ask people for their money, or to spend it like it's water coming out of a fire hose.

Four years, eight years later (because people are stupid and don't learn from their mistakes), one's pathetic life is still fucked up, the federal government hasn't turned losers into winners, and one's cult leader has vanished to the international speaking circuit, where he can rail for wealth redistribution and "God Damn America!" at $50K per.

At best, one can hope to become the cartoon "Julia," with all vibrancy and satisfaction an empty, 2D vision of grubby socialism can offer; but all your friends and family to come will be stuck with the bills, and your miserable little plasticine life will still be miserable.

Dear God. What a collection of losers.

We're screwed.

Penguin, as always, makes the fallacious assumption Ann's a Conservative blogger.

She isn't (although I suspect Meade's working on her).

Second, she hasn't given money to the Republicans before.

Apparently, Ann gave Little Zero not only her vote, but also the address to her pocketbook.

My three daughters are already drifting away from Facebook and the politics these days is really annoying. "I don't know how you feel but I'm going to post a snarky link about Ann Romney for all my friends to see." They don't have a "dislike" button and its easy to see why.

That domain name makes me think of one 3-year-old grabbing something from another. "MY Barack Obama!"

This is my Barack Obama. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My Barack Obama is my best friend. It is my life. I must be mastered by it as it must master my life.

FWIW, the Romney app is number 14 at the App Store.

Zero's is down around 165.

Now there's a poll on enthusiasm.

It is easy to make fun of the campain's seeming message of president Obama is your boyfriend. But I think it will be very effective to the single-woman demographic.

They are on their own and even as they mouth and believe all the feminist, I need a man like a fish needs a bicycle cant, but deep down inside they want to be taken care of. Obama is the face of the welfare state, which will take care of them.

Married women won't fall for this unless they are married to a wuss.

Don't read too much into my.barackobana.com. The "my" part of the URL just means it's a Microsoft Sharepoint site: all such sites start with my, and the my refers to you, the user: it is, or can be, customized to each user that logs in.

Yes, absolutely.

Next to African-Americans, no cohort is more loyal to Democrats than single women.

Better still for the Democrats, they turn out better than do African-Americans.

That was the genius behind "Julia."

The Democrats know who their base is, and what they want.

They all aspire to be "Julia."

$3 from your federal benies isn't too much to ask for, is it?

A lot of people have noticed.

But, apparently, even they are starting to fall away.

Choom's gender gap has shrunk considerably, down to anywhere from 3 to 7 points.

I don't understand the consternation at being considered a conservative blogger. I wonder if Ann has a category she would put herself into? Just curious.

I just got on their list long ago. They don't stop sending me stuff. I get email and paper mail constantly from Democrats and nothing from Republicans, not even Wisconsin Republicans -- when I'm the highest-traffic blogger in Wisconsin.

They just don't work like that.

Except... you know who was good working with bloggers? McCain (in 2008).

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

"I don't understand the consternation at being considered a conservative blogger."

"Consternation" means "Amazement and terror such as to prostrate one's faculties; dismay."

Care to rephrase that?

purplepenquin म्हणाले...

Does that make her an Amazon?

Is she Amazon itself? Nope.
Is she a successful Amazon affiliate? Sure.

Is there anyone else that you see listed on the "Conservative Blog Advertising Network" that is accepting advertising dollars but shouldn't be considered "conservative"?

IF I wanted to be snarky I could say "I don't believe the stories of bloggers saying they don't get emails from Republicans." :D

But instead I'll just wonder why the Republicans don't use emails to communicate their message and/or raise funds...are they truly unaware or do they simply not care?

Are you kidding? And lose out on the entertainment value? By October, Preznit Crackhead will be sending every registered Democrat in the country a DVD with him making a 'personal' appeal to you - yes, that's right, YOU!

AllenS म्हणाले...

Consternation worked for me, Allie.

Still curious if you would put yourself solidly in any political category, Ann.
