At the Caffe Dolce...
... life is sweet in Missoula.
(Caffe Dolce is a real place. We practically lived there for 3 days.)
ADDED: A second view... showing a more crowded time of day:
This place was great as a café for hanging out with our laptops, but it becomes a real restaurant with table service at lunch and dinner. There's breakfast too, but you order at the counter. The French doors open out onto a nice walled patio — it's a corner in a mostly residential area — and we ate dinner there last night: Montana steak, wonderfully tender. The place seems both elegant and completely casual, the food and the coffee are great, and everyone who works there is really nice.

That guy thought you were taking a tourist's photo of the only black person in Montana.
I like the way his man purse matches his slacks. Tasteful acessorizing is the marker of good taste.
Che bel colore bruno - come il titolo.
Looks like a nice place.
When did somebody start saying, "Get a room"?
Do you ever go to a place where other people also go to eat?
In a strange town, the number of cars in the parking lot is supposed to at least give an indication of the degree to which the food is edible.
Not infallible, but it improves the odds.
I often say that Apple is a luxury brand. It is. Boy, is Apple tech support different than any other tech support though. Apple tech support is tops.
That's all.
Wouldn't want to pay their heating bill.
Obama and Biden: Teleprompters stat!

Is it? I've been delaying buying a new phone because I'm trying to decide if an iphone is worth the money (and apple is so cultish and proprietary I don't know if I want to give them my money).
Is that in the former Milwaukee Railroad depot, along the river?
I'm waiting anxiously for an analysis of Drudge's picture of Obama with a crystal ball.
Applw tech support is light years ahead of any other support I've ever used. It might be why schools have invested so heavily in Apple.
Also, if you want to download something on apple stuff, you have to put in your credit card/password, etc, even if it is free. What is that all about?

No this was built from scratch, on Brooks where there was a gas station and a law office in an old house.
The Milwaukee Road depot is now Boone & Crockett headquarters. A shame, because made a great restaurant location.
If you wanted a real picture of Missoula, you should have come during the "Occupy Movement." The fruit and nut quotient was very high. It's still nice, but I prefer Kalispell and Bozeman and even Butte to Missoula. I live in Missoula though.
Were you in the one in "the mall"?
I had the best coca cola in that cafe. Montana has the freshest coke.
Is a Caffe a Cafe?
life goes on. Travel should be enjoyed while we are young and healthy.
I attended the funeral for a 30 year good friend and client this afternoon. He was 80 born, in Idaho in 1932.
Asd a young man he served as a pilot in the Air Force flying for a nuclear armed always in flight B-52 Wing, right out of Dr Syrangelove fame. He retired as a Lt. Colonel so he will be interred at Arlington, Virginia.
The next 40 years he was a real estate developer and an honest man. He had been an Eagle Scout and pushed for fund raisers volunteers for the BSA and got me to do it. He had a way of inspiring commitment by being a committed man himself.
He was a lifetime Republican before that became popular in Georgia, and he raised money for the GOP candidates every cycle. Newt Gingrich sent a personal letter of thanks and condolences to his wife that was read at the funeral today.
He had a stroke 2 years ago, but was still courageous to the end. We redid his will 3 weeks before he died, in case the Bush Tax cut in Estate tax expires in January, but he beat the IRS to it.

The difference being, he didn't ride an atomic bomb like a bucking bronco.
I wonder if you Wisconsies saw this in Slate? Wisconsin seems to be the only state considered primarily to be "stupid" by people using Google. I guess this is the downside of your year of front and center politics.

It looks like a beautiful cafe. Where are all the other people 'living' there?
This is such a pretty picture and everyone is so pleasant and all but this is the place to add off-topic things, so:
http://dailycaller.com/2012/08/15/its-only-an-atmosphere-of-hate-if-its-useful-to-liberals/
"Corkins is a volunteer at the DC Center for the LGBT Community. And he brought along a Chick-fil-A bag on his mission to shoot people at the Family Research Council. I’m sure you’re thinking the same thing I’m thinking: Tea Party."
He shot a security guard so he's looking at attempted murder at the very least.
I wonder if anyone spewing all the constant hateful rhetoric (like, say Dowd or Andy or Corkin's co-workers (who I accuse without evidence, true enough) is going to feel even a little bit responsible that Corkin's life is ruined forever.
Song about Joe Biden:

It will not matter. Read the Candidate, chapter 4. Obama/Biden will win. They play dirty. Media will look away.
I'm trying to remember the last time I was in any kind of restaurant.
It was probably in 2005.
Apple tech support is tops.
I had a bad experience with a couple of their stores where they were authorized repair shops. My Macbook Pro fritzed out, and the first two places said the logic board was basically shot. Since it was out of warranty, I would have to buy a new one. Since I spent so much money on it in the first place, I kept going to different repair shops. I don't know why; I just wasn't going to give in that easily. The third place I took it to finally diagnosed it as a bad cable in the logic board. They replaced it, and voila. Back to normal. $100. I was greatly relieved but more than a little peeved at the first two places I had been. Shoddy, lazy repair folk.
@Synova
If I were Dowd et al, I wouldn't feel guilty. It's weak tea to suppose that someone has so little self esteem that you can influence them to commit(or try)murder just by rhetoric.
On the other hand, the left is made up mostly of those kinds of group think people.
Regardless, Little Jimmy(I ain't gonna waste time learning who this dick is) pulled the trigger. Little Jimmy is the only one responsible.
At my Slate link, my home of California googles most often "Why is CA:
so liberal?
so broke?
so anti-gun?
so expensive?
Kinda of self-explanatory. It seems to me "so stupid?" should be in there more than for Wisconsin. We're the ones who are completely broke and elected Jerry Brown to fix it with a high speed train that will take Jose Nobody from Nowhere, CA to New Nowhere, CA at stage coach speeds for triple the original cost that we passed by referendum.
By moving here 3 decades ago, I advanced myself far right on the local bell curve to where I'm considered one of CA's leading thinkers just behind the Octomom. I'd be ahead of her except she has a college degree.
Traveling through Yeehaw Junction Florida decades ago(yes it is a real place), I stopped for gas and grub at the only place that sold both. I pumped my gas, went to the counter and ordered 2 giant hotdogs, went to the bathroom, got my dogs paid, and hit the roads again.
As I drove down the road, I grabbed one of the hotdogs, pulled off the wrapper and took a bite. Took another. And a third, just to confirm...This was THE NASTIEST tasting hot dog I ever had! So O looked at it.
The bun was empty...There was no hotdog! I grabbed the other one...same! My God I was mad, and too far down the road to go back.
I still go through Yeehaw Junction now and then. And that gas station is still open. But I will push my car to Vero beach before I ever stop there again!
Shanna, I don't know about the iPhone. I don't do smartphones anymore. I had to call about an iPad that needed a warranty repair or replacement.
The Laor Dept is trying to save Zero's ass by giving away $100million dollars...http://cnsnews.com/news/article/labor-dept-attempts-stop-layoffs-giving-100-million-states-subsidize-payrolls
The sad part is that republicans voted for this crap.
Rino's=dead elephants=democrats. Vote 'em all out!
Couple that with Weepieby Boehner, and you see why the country is so fucked up.
A professional baseball player named Melky Crabrera has tested positive for performance enhancement drugs.
Looking at his career stats and comparing them to this year.. I can see why these morons keep trying.. Melkys average and slugging is around 100 points higher.. that amounts to the difference between a chance at a long term contract and journeyman... not a term of endearment btw.
Which brings me to Jamaican Olympic sensation Usain Bolt and the reason why I'm taking time away from watching the Red Sox loose one more game...
In the simplest terms and the most convenient definitions, Usain Bolt did not get those medals on his own.. (imhp)
Further, I can see Obama election parallels in the Usain wins.. including, but not limited to, the potential charge or racism precluding even the suggestion that Bolt is a doper.. the name similarity is irrelevant but.. if only tangential to the fear I just mentioned.
One guy.. one guy.. is catching hell for saying that Bolt is a doper.. Free Speech lives?
I used google maps to drive down hiway 93 by cafe dolce. I think I understand why you spent so much time in the cafe.
Bagoh20, thanks for sharing; that was a treat. Texas is awesome, hot, cheap, and conservative.
Yup, yup, yup, and yup! I especially like the first result, and that it's the first.
I don't do smartphones anymore.
I'm not saying anything.
Romney's timidity as far as going after Obama is not entirely character driven.. although I'm willing to leave the door open to that possibly.. I dont know Romney from a rock.
But.. however.. Romney is not the only one.. and thats why I'm so committed to.. at least here.. to keep harping on this..
Everybody has treated Obama with velvet gloves and in turn Obama has taken full advantage.. and the country is much much worst for it.
An obvious pander for votes is one thing... Presidents used to be more circumspect and subtle.. like, I dont know, trying to speak Spanish or something.
Obama panders the way a Chavez governs.
Obama's panders are almost indistinguishable from a dictator's 'reforms'.
The fact that this is not even being whispered... like in old Soviet Russia... makes me think something is terribly wrong.
Obama should not be above the rule of law like this.
I used Bagohs link to check out Kentucky...Read it and weep you mere basketball mortals.
BWAAHAAHHAAHHAAAHA!
This is better..
Obama panders almost indistinguishably...
I'm not going to get mad if you guys suggest some improvement in my rants.
just saying.
I'm sad.
A meanness has developed that takes away the fun, the pleasure of being around people and so I find myself working out a more distant orbit. Again. Most adjustments are easy, just start begging off and stop creating things, but one tonight was not so easy. I was made to explain myself so I did.
The last time this happened I thought, well, just until the crazy season passes, and then it turned out all seasons are crazy seasons and that particular meanness is not going to stop. It cannot be abided and it cannot be affected, but it cannot be abided but it cannot be affected *snip* there went the ribbon that connected us. That moment is a Kubric moment where horribly the EVA astronaut is disconnected and goes floating off into space.
Oh, Chip, we're sad that you're sad.
Well said, Chip, and I have had the same experience many times in the past 10 years.
It's become very isolating, but I refuse to bow to their demands for conformity to a destructive ideal.

I went to your food blog.
Now I'm hungry.
Sorry, Chip. That happened to me during the last Presidential election season. I think politics make people go crazy. (Not that what happened to you was about politics. I just think that political times pitch up the emotions of certain people and increase social nastiness.)
At the supermarket, some workers wear hearts on their name tags, each heart being some customer who turned them in for being helpful.
One lady had a dozen. I questioned her about the logic. These people who turned you in were themselves nice people, right? That means you're being rewarded for being nice to nice people.
Anybody can be nice to nice people.
What you want is asshole badges, for being nice to assholes. That might mean something.
If the tables were full all the time, they still would not make enough off the food to pay for those surroundings.
@yashu: The thing about mocking people like Dowd is that these are professionals who routinely deploy personal nastiness to undermine people in political life. Moreover, they are paid to do so and have have eager (though dwindling) paying audiences for their nastiness. So far, things have not reached 2008 proportions but the season is still young I am thinking Palin-bashing levels). It is not enough to counter these people with reason. It does work to ignore them, or lie back and take it.
Spacewalking isn't for wimps, Chip. That's for sure.
Just a bit of advice though...
Don't get too far out there, cause we'd miss you tons if you couldn't make it back.
Also, take pictures! You could put these Althouse vacation pics to shame.
Lastly, while you cut your ribbon, supposedly there is a "Ribbon in the Sky" out there, and just for you! Would be a shame to go all that way and not find the damn thing.
Weird, I'm not sure why my MoDo comment showed up here as well as in the MoDo post. I don't think I did that, did I?
If I did, sorry 'bout that.
"If the tables were full all the time, they still would not make enough off the food to pay for those surroundings."
No worries - the owner is part of one of the richest families in the state, if not the riches.
That iPad I mentioned showed up this morning with the FedEx truck. Wowza!
