Waterfalls.

Despite the drought in southern Wisconsin, there's been plenty of rainfall up north, and, as a consequence, the waterfalls are looking quite beautiful.

2 of the falls mentioned in the article are places we visited a couple summers ago — Copper Falls and Morgan Falls.

Very nice, Madame. Supposedly, about 80% of the country is affected by the dry spell.

We've had some rain here, not enough to turn the grass green, but it doesn't crunch under your feet, either.

With some luck, more next week.

I love waterfalls. The most beautiful I have seen are in Vermont. You have to take these roads in the middle of nowhere to find them but once you do it is pure heaven.

And the swimming holes below them are divine.

Yeah. I have washout on my driveway at my lake home near Minocqua. Not the kind of waterfall action I like. Oh well, at least I get to play with a tracked skid steer!

Schist or granite, all them rocks,
Higgledy piggledy jigsaw locks,
Diagonal down wild water balls,
Sluicing, slithering, foam-white falls.

Not knowing, familiar territory for me, why my love for Katy Perry shouldn't grow, dumbfounded.

Oh Well!

At the Oval Room, across the WH, we are all shocked about the polls. We simply, simply cannot believe that Romney camp is taking a sentence out-of-context. We will not give up. At the Chicago HQ, our motto is now: Work harder than before to destroy, dismantle, and destruct Romney/GOP. Thank goodness for liberal bloggers like Ezra Klein, reporters like EJ Dionne, and columnists like Gail Collins, who refuse to use Romney's line and call it a false claim. After the re-election of the great POTUS, we will invite them to the WH. They deserve our thanks.

As much as I wish it weren't so, Katy Perry is the greatest artist alive.

George W. Bush Skipping Republican Convention :::shock::: :-P

"Former President George W. Bush is skipping the Republican National Convention next month in Tampa, Fla., where presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney will officially become the party's standard-bearer.

"President Bush was grateful for the invitation," his spokesman, Freddy Ford, said Friday in an email. He added that the 43rd president "is confident that Mitt Romney will be a great president. But he's still enjoying his time off the political stage and respectfully declined the invitation to go to Tampa."

Bush's presence at the convention could undercut Romney's argument that he knows better than President Barack Obama when it comes to improving the wobbly economy. A CBS News/New York Times poll this month found more voters say Bush deserves the bulk of the blame for the nation's economic downturn than think Obama bears a lot of the responsibility. Almost two-thirds of voters think Romney's economic policies would mirror Bush's at least somewhat."

Money quote from garage's first link:

Since the late 1800s, the Lake Superior region has suffered from large-scale iron mining operations, supplying over three-fourths of the nation’s iron ore.

That iron ore built cities, provided jobs to immigrants and migrating blacks, won wars, fueled inventions and the evil profiteers even left behind philanthropic legacies like the Carnegie Foundation. Yes there was pollution, but we somehow live even longer now as an indirect consequence.

The cuntwhore that was the fat Orson Welles, not the Simon Callow' Orson Welles, and believe you me there is a difference, was a curious observer, biased yet strangely proclaiming the opposite, and a piker compared to Katy Perry.

The events of this day should remind us of the thing we were gong to do because we always wanted to, thought it was a great idea, and just never got around to; or the people we haven't seen lately, or to whom we never said the important things that we know they would love to hear.

Now is a great time to do the best things.

One thing about Katy Perry

She doesn't take herself too seriously - at least in her videos - and that's a good thing.

BTW Hanson is a rockin' band.

And yes, I'm serious.

The Founding Fathers of America would be (or are in Heaven) not anything less than content with their efforts and their descendants.

I couldn't name a decent democrat as of today. Zell Miller is the last one I ever heard. That party has been taken over by knuckleheads and idjits. And the stupid republicans are following them in lock step.

My condolences to the shooting victims. People are going mad...from the heat, or the economy, or they were already there.

For those politicizing the shooting(coughliberalscough) just stop it. Act like a human being instead of some political schill.

@garage

Skid loaders are great fun. You oughta' see the guys who use 'em everyday...they can make those things dance.

Ps.

If you can talk the wife into it, the baby track hoe is enjoyable too.

"Waterfalls are symbolic of man and unity," said the wise-man.

Each droplet is a part of the whole, all moving in one stream. Then when arriving at the falls all unity is destroyed. Each drop and spray, splashes and agitates, and then below the falls, all come together again and harmony is restored.

I'm heartsick about those movie house people.

A few years ago I bought a Case 1840 skid steer. Came with a snow plow attachment. Very handy toy. Last year purchased a Bobcat 325 mini-excavator. Even more fun, but could be a bit larger. Hopefully a small dozer in my future, then I can really have fun in the dirt. Feel like a kid again.

And yet, in a poll that is skewed to favor Demos by 6 points, the Romster is up by 1.

This terrible drought is God's plan.

Lefties try to invalidate religion because God allows bad things to happen.

They never heard of Job. Or the Passion.

The hard times are what make us strong.

And show us what's truly important.

The left never passes on an opportunity to mock God or his followers.

If one believes God created the heavens and the earth, everything else is a piece of cake for Him.

It's funny. From my perspective, it is more of a stretch to believe we evolved from who knows what. Dirt? Apes? Big Bang?

Yeah, my sister and brother in law live in the Lake Pepin area...big lefties like many there against mining...in their case a frac sand mine...but also oppose the iron mine proposed in garbage's link.

I bring up the fact that her husband works with metal and ask where all that iron that makes the steel he works with comes from? And all the propane that he burns to make his forge hot, not to mention heats their three buildings on their 40 acres of land that was once forest but now is prairie?

I suggest that if they were so concerned with the earth then changes need to be made. Two people don't need a 2500 sf house, much less a 1200 sf guest house. And the truck with the big V8, and turbo Audi? Gotta go. Imagine the steel and aluminum and oil that had to be mined or drilled to make and operate all those?

Lefties want the modern life, but fight against the very things that allow it...including capitalism. I also remind them that two people don't get 40 acres with a vineyard, with three buildings, and all the stuff that fills them, and the vehicles, and lifestyle they live, without capitalism.

Boy, Leslyn you might want spend some time in the old testament. It is filled with examples of God's plan and execution of terrible things. Primarily as a result of our free will and rebellion.

You might start with the Jews wandering 40 years in the desert. No adult other than Caleb and Joshua entered the promised land. One could argue it was not God's plan. But OTOH, if He is God, and He is, he knew the Jewish people would rebel and therefore he had a plan.
