You've got to watch the clip, knowing how completely out of context it is. Look at the bullshit blank disbelief mugging they do for the camera. How embarrassing!
Here's something else out of context:

Wawa is the best convenience store chain in the country!...Yes, there's no internal capital W. I checked the company's website. I was carrying over the error made a the WasHington PoSt website.
Also, it isn't WaWa, that would be ridiculous. It is named after the town of Wawa, Pennsylvania.
ADDED: Rush Limbaugh is opening his show today with this story. MSNBC is doing it again, he says, connecting it to the doctoring of George Zimmerman's 911 call. "It was blatant and they got caught... and now everybody is ridiculing them."

All I hear is Charlie Brown's teacher.
I'm caught between wondering if they feel guilty about their dishonesty, or if they feel good about it, because it is in service to their political goals.
One thing I don't wonder about is whether they know they are lying.
Plus, I've never heard of WaWa's.
MSNBC has a good message and come up with a doctored video to tell it with: Romney is an out of touch weirdo.
Let it be videotaped, let it be done!
I can't understand why other media don't call them out. Garbage like this is driving their potential readers / listeners / revenue / how they get paid away.
The beauty of it all is that the MSNBC crowd just can't get it, that there are now a myriad of sources with which to bash their lies.
Amazing. And they look so stupid as a result.
Didn't the Prof write about the faux concern from the likes of Diane Sawyer that the Romneys are out of touch because they own several homes?
When's the last time Andrea Mitchell-Greenspan and husband Alan stopped by WaWas for a meatball sandwich and Baked Lays?
Also, MSNBC actually travestied journalism twice: The full clip opens with her reference to George H.W. Bush's alleged bafflement over a supermarket scanner during his re-election campaign. A story since long debunked.

Wawa is the best convenience store chain in the country!
Didn't Romney say something about a "33 page form to change your address" at the post office?
Last time I went to the post office, the form was the size of a postcard. I've also learnt that you can change your address online. Perhaps Romney should get out more often.
Also, it isn't WaWa, that would be ridiculous. It is named after the town of Wawa, Pennsylvania.
10 comments and not a single Barbara Walters joke?
Impressive restraint.
Greg said: I can't understand why other media don't call them out. Garbage like this is driving their potential readers / listeners / revenue / how they get paid away.
Actually, I think it is just the opposite. This is just more red meat for their base. I don't think there is anyone left watching MSNBC who is not a complete partisan. I don't know because I don't watch MSNBC, but I don't think there is anyone an air who is not a complete partisan.
This is their business model. I'm not even sure their sorry they were caught.
Wow, even taken out of context, that's a pretty dumb thing to attack on. I've grown up with touch screens, and I still think that they're pretty darn amazing when I think about them. And don't even get me started on how crazy the internet is.
Ordering sandwiches on a touchpad screen? I'll admit, I've never seen that, and I'd be impressed. I mean I've seen touchpad screens, but never where the customer uses them to order. How handy!
I still am mildly excited whenever I get to use the self-checkout and scan items myself. I get a touchpad screen there, I guess.
Not that either of these things are the point of Romney's speech, but still, I think the feigned shock by the newscasters is doubly silly. It's not ubiquitous technology in stores or restaurants (except for employees).
WaWa is a mid-Atlantic-coast entity. I had never heard of it until visiting my folks after they moved to Maryland. And I never checked out the sandwich-ordering system, because all we ever did was stop for coffee.
(WaWa is apparently famous for its coffee; they sell a gazillion different varieties, and a panoply of flavored creamers to match. Nothing is really brewed strong enough for me, but you can't complain of a lack of diversity. Especially by comparison with your average convenience-store-attached-to-a-gas-station anywhere else in the country.)
Never heard of Wawa's. Went to an Oragne Leaf frozen yogurt place. It was pretty amazing. Get exactly the flavors, toppings and quantities you want. Kinda expensive though.
Last time I went to the post office, the form was the size of a postcard. I've also learnt that you can change your address online.
Yeah, just try getting them to do something simple like close you mailbox so the rain doesn't get your mail wet and every body driving by can see if you have package or check worth stealing. Left notes, called the post office, filled out online complaints, etc. I had to write my Congresswoman. It's still left open about once a week. Plus, the USPS website isn't the least bit intuitive.
Chris Gerrib, Althouse's own Andrea Mitchell.
This is the sort of malpractice that would destroy a conservative pundit's career. I'm pretty sure Mitchell or whoever reported it will be fine though.
This would have passed for real journalism back in the pre-alt media days. They might have succeeded in hurting Romney, as they did Bush with the scanner story.
As the bloggers say, FAIL. Thank goodness.
Chris Gerrib,
Good point. It's about damn time this country had a president who knew the ins and outs of change of address forms.
Chris Gerrib - he wan talking bout notifying medicare people, not just changing his address at the post office.
"Last time I went to the post office, the form was the size of a postcard. I've also learnt that you can change your address online."
To bad it isn't that easy to do so with a government agency. That's what he was talking about. Do you have trouble paying attention?
Gerbil, it's a 33 page form to change your address with Medicare reimbursement.
Wawa is a convenience store chain with headquarters in Pennsylvania.
It's also the Ojibwa word for "goose."
Another Post Office story. A couple of years ago, I went on a trip and forgot to tell the post office to hold my mail. I figured I could go to the post office at my destination and they could forward the hold request to my local post office. Wrong. They told me to go to the local libray, get online and make the request that way. A requaest through the actual post office would take 3-4 days. I just called my ex-wife and she held it for me. When you get better service from your ex-wife than you do an agency, something major is wrong.
Wawa is the best convenience store chain in the country!
Better than Kum & Go? Open Pantry? Kwik Trip? Sheetz?
Kum & Go? Sheetz?
Man, this is a dirty country.
What else could we expect from the wife of Alan Greenspan, idiot father of the Second Great Depression?
Why is this out of context? He said that WaWa was amazing because you can pay for your sandwich with a keypad. Sure, he then tried to use his amazement to prove a bogus point about the private sector, but that doesn't change the fact that he said he was amazed by WaWa's keypad.
My sister met George Harrison at UCLA while working on her doctorate in ethnomusicology with a specialty in tabla and the tensions between innovation and tradition in Indian music. She got to host his tour of the campus. I don't know if they talked about WaWa.
In case you're wondering, the form Romney is talking about is the CMS 855 form at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services web site:
https://www.cms.gov/Medicare/Provider-Enrollment-and-Certification/MedicareProviderSupEnroll/EnrollmentApplications.html
The one I looked at was only 28 pages, damn that liar Romney! (/sarcasm) It took me 10 minutes of Google searching to find out which form he was talking about. It's funny though, there is a "change of address" form on the site that is only 6 pages, but if you look at the description of the 855 form, it's used for new AND updated registrations.
Let's make Medicare fraud as easy as ordering a sandwich from a machine.
Bold ideas. No apologies!
Wawa is great- I get lunch there at least 3 days a week and I was impressed too when they installed the touchscreen system a 2-4 years ago.
But the bigger question, to me, point is does an MSM fossil like Andrea Mitchell ever peer into the future when doing her so-called news analysis? It is tiring and predictable to hear these baby boomer talking heads relating every little item today to what happened in a prior prez elections.... The Comeback kid, Nixon and Watergate, the Cuban Missile Crisis, Reagan having a drink at the end of the day with Tip O'Neill, etc etc
. . .that doesn't change the fact that he said he was amazed by WaWa's keypad.
So Romney's "amazement" is what you're hanging your hat on? I've never been anywhere that allowed you to order a sandwich on a keypad either, so I think I'd be pretty amazed to see one.
Did you feel the same about Little Zero's admission that he had no idea how to program his ipod?
Once again, this comes to mind. In case you were wondering how Obama's intelligence stacks up.
Traveling to a customer site in NJ, I went to Wawa a couple of weeks ago for the first time to get some coffee.
By far, the best convenience store coffee I have ever had. I would have ordered a breakfast sandwich since they looked good, but had already gotten some fresh soft pretzels from the place next door--which didn't offer coffee.
Let's make Medicare fraud as easy as ordering a sandwich from a machine.
Bold ideas. No apologies!
Finally, garage arrives to demonstrate the gross misrepresntation the left eagerly participates in ot discredit themselves in the minds of any rational person.
Better than Kum & Go?
We just got one of these in town. Can I tell you how much I loathe that name? I refuse to go there. Awful faux populist dreck.
Another Post Office story.
I don’t have too many problems with the post office, but the garbage men are very haphazard about slinging my garbage can around (they put in my driveway half the time, and I have to stop in the street to pull in) and last week they left it in the street, it got run over and now has no wheels. I need a new one now. I’m going to have to put a sign on it that says ‘JUNK’ and hope the junk folks will take it away for me.
So Romney's "amazement" is what you're hanging your hat on?
Not hanging my hat on anything. Just pointing out that MSNBC didn't take his remark out of context.
Chris Gerrib said...
Didn't Romney say something about a "33 page form to change your address" at the post office?
It was a doctor who moved to a new address in the same town who needed to change his mailing address for Medicaid/Medicare payments.
that doesn't change the fact that he said he was amazed by WaWa's keypad
He was making a point that the private sector does cool things, and backed it up with something he had seen recently. Is it somehow wrong to enjoy innovation? I think that sandwich touch screen ordering sounds great!
For those of you that have never been in a Wawa, you have no idea what you are missing. They are awesome stores. 15 types of fresh coffee and everything you need. And Romney was 100% correct in his enthusiasm for the machine where you order a fresh sandwich. (24 hours a day I might add). Sadly, I live out west now but I just went home for 11 days. I went to about 10 different Wawas over that time, and went to one at least once a day. My daughters LOVED that they could click on the machine, pay the cashier, and their sandwich was ready for them, just like Romney said. Of course MSNBC has to selectively edit the video, because they can't show where Romney speaks freely without a teleprompter and is quite compelling. He is proving to be a much better candidate than I dreamed he would be. I will enthusiastically be voting for him, unlike McCain.
"This is the sort of malpractice that would destroy a conservative pundit's career."
This is a joke, right?
Libruls use their I-phones to post tweets mocking Romney for appreciating cool, efficient technology. Priceless.
He was making a point that the private sector does cool things, and backed it up with something he had seen recently. Is it somehow wrong to enjoy innovation? I think that sandwich touch screen ordering sounds great!
Touch-screen ordering is terrific. Versions of it have been around for years (government-owned Amtrak does a good job with it for example). There's nothing wrong with praising touch-screen ordering. But to call it "amazing" sounds slightly out of touch. If you disagree with MSNBC's point, fair enough. But Romney's remark wasn't taken out of context.
So is he saying it should be easier to commit Medicare fraud?
Garage,
Is the problem that even a 33 page form does nothing to stop actual Medicare fraud or that the government is spending such a grotesquely huge amount of money on medical care that even 33 pages of forms and months of missing payments does not stop a legitimate provider from dropping Medicare?
Distant, centralized control + gobs of cash = certain fraud
But to call it "amazing" sounds slightly out of touch.
I have never been to a store with sandwich touch screen ordering. I suspect most people haven't either. It's not widely used technology in that context (he wasn't expressing amazement at touch screen tech in general, although it's still amazing, even if it's been out a while. Hell, planes are amazing and they've been around for years. You sound like someone who can't appreciate interesting things in life when you try to hammer Romney for that.
Sure, he then tried to use his amazement to prove a bogus point about the private sector, but that doesn't change the fact that he said he was amazed by WaWa's keypad.
Wow. Do you strain to cut a loaf, too? It isn't healthy, you know.
You see, AF above just showed you how this works on the MSNBC audience. They are so clueless about what the problems really are vis a vis government vs private that even the context goes right over their head.
The important thing for the left is always how it looks - not how it works. Being lied to is better than being told the truth, because the truth is so damned inconvenient.
Wawa is Starbucks for the masses, with more and better products, better service, better food and much cheaper coffee (but just as good.)
Clizza and Mrs. Greenspan have likely never been to a Wawa. It's too downscale for them.
"The form that’s so very inferior to the sandwich computers at “Wawa’s” is actually two pages long, four if you include the instructions."
Oh noes!!! The facts are escapin'!
Just another Romney lie...add it to the (long) list...
Let's make Medicare fraud as easy as ordering a sandwich from a machine.
Ha. The term "Medicare Fraud" is ubiquitous. You might want to think about what that means to your Big Government apologetic.
@DADvocate - If I'd gotten better service she wouldn't be my ex! ;D
Andrea Mitchell will address this during her show today at 1 Eastern.
BTW, the example Romney used for government waste was Medicare. The fair comparison with Medicare is private health insurers. Anyone want to argue that they're better than Medicare?
If so, you just lost Romney, because despite criticizing the inefficiency of Medicare -- and blaming Obama for long-term budget projections that are largely due to Medicare -- you're never going to hear him call for cutting Medicare. On the contrary, he's criticizes Obama for slightly cutting Medicare.
At the same time, he supports the Ryan plan, which retains the name "Medicare" but replaces actually existing Medicare with private health insurance.
And because this new system of private health insurance that is nothing like Medicare as we know it would still be called "Medicare," anyone who accuses the plan of ending Medicare as we know it is lying.
This ia all part of Romney's cunning plan to win Pennsylvania.
Our hack media in action. How embarrassing indeed.
We can smell the hack desperation.
This is a joke, right?
Where you referring to the statement you put in italics or was it introspective? I'm betting on the latter.
Everybody knows MSMBC is a joke network.
There's a county park in Eastern Washington called Wawawai. I want to open a Wawa store there.
The fair comparison with Medicare is private health insurers. Anyone want to argue that they're better than Medicare?
Um, yes? Depends on which one you have of course, but the nice thing about private insurance is if you hate yours you may be able to pick something else.
And to think, some on the Left ridicule Repulicans for our distrust in the mainstream media. Dumbasses!
and now everybody is ridiculing them."
Which in my opinion is much more effective than demanding a correction.
These people are un-serious clowns and should be treated accordingly.
You sound like someone who can't appreciate interesting things in life when you try to hammer Romney for that.
Once again, I'm not hammering Romney for calling WaWa amazing. But that is, in fact, what he said. And it's what MSNBC says he did. So I fail to see the problem.
Despite being the coolest, most hip and current dude around, I have never heard of WaWa. If this mythical thing exists, then I find it amazing too, long overdue, but that's what makes it amazing.
Government was the last ones to get with the eCommerce technology to handle payments and other stuff. It's an amazing cost reducer that has saved industry billions. Amazingly, it has saved the government nothing. Even after installing incredible effort-saving technology, they still expand their budgets, and never return a cent to their "stockholders".

Chris Cilizza attended an exclusive, pricey prep school so he likely would not eat at a Wawa.
From Wiki:
"The Loomis Chaffee School (LC or Loomis) is a premier coeducational boarding school for grades 9–12 and postgraduates located on a 300-plus acre campus in the Connecticut River Valley in Windsor, Connecticut, six miles (10 km) north of Hartford. Loomis is a member of the Ten Schools Admissions Organization."
Its annual tuition today is $38,500.
Um, yes? Depends on which one you have of course, but the nice thing about private insurance is if you hate yours you may be able to pick something else.
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you don't have a lot of direct personal experience dealing with private health insurers (or Medicare).
Yep it is amazing that Romney has never encountered a vending machine style before, or in his college days eaten at Horn and Hardart automats, but I guess that happens to the very, very rich; they lose touch with the ordinary in life. As a result, his notion of success is churn it out, bottom line, no consideration of quality or wages for the workers, I ll skip that and eat where I can see folks prepare food with fresh ingredients.
Is the problem that even a 33 page form does nothing to stop actual Medicare fraud
I'm pretty sure a 33 page form is preferable to a touch screen sandwich machine to prevent fraud.

Okay, so as a NEWS organization which has the sacred trust of informing the public about the important issues of the day (so they claim) which is more relevant to the voter?
1) Romney is amazed by Wa-Wa's touch screen ordering system.
2) It takes 33 pages of forms to change your address for medicare re-imbursement
The bias can be seen not only by what they show but also but what they omit.
Beware! Andrea Mitchell's cunning stunt is deception!
but I guess that happens to the very, very rich; they lose touch with the ordinary in life.
Yeah. I don't think Herb Kohl has much in common with the ordinary.
Of course the number of times you would utter such a sentence about a Democrat remains at zero.
"The fair comparison with Medicare is private health insurers. Anyone want to argue that they're better than Medicare? "
I easily could, but that's not the comparison he was making, it's a dodge by you.
The comparison was changing your address to ordering a sandwich. One takes 33 pages and months, and the other no pages and seconds.
It's not really that hard if you just pay attention and stop dodging the truth. Let it hit you and sink in.
I worked at a Wawa in South Jersey one summer in college and at a 7-11 store in the same area while unemployed some years later and I can say that the corporate owned Wawa stores are run so much better and the employees are treated so well that if I ever found myself in the position of having to work in a convenience store again I would run, not walk, to the nearest Wawa with a "Help Wanted" sign.
No BS. If Wawa ever expands to the mid-west, I might even quit my job to sign up.
Yes. Without question. No go peddle your silly bullshit lies somewhere else.
Jay, I'm all for honesty. That's why I look forward to Romney, as a champion of the private sector, calling loudly, repeatedly, and in plain language for the immediate elimination of Medicare, which after all is the biggest government program, and the replacement of Medicare with amazing, highly efficient private health insurance.
If that occurs, I will tip my cap to Romney for his honesty and make hotel reservations to attend Obama's second inauguration. But until that does occur, I will persist in my view that Romney is a hypocrite and a fraud.
Didn't Romney say something about a "33 page form to change your address" at the post office?
No. He didn't. He was talking about a different form that has nothing to do with the Post Office.
Be sure to let us know if you have any other questions!
Once again, I'm not hammering Romney for calling WaWa amazing. But that is, in fact, what he said. And it's what MSNBC says he did. So I fail to see the problem.
Does her reference to the long-debunked George HW Bush "scanner amazement" (edited out of this clip) help esplain the problem?
Debbie Andrews said...
"There's a county park in Eastern Washington called Wawawai. I want to open a Wawa store there."
I used to go there all the time when I attended WSU. We would stop at the park for picnic lunch and then afterwards, go a bit further down the road for cliff diving at (I think) Granite Point on the Snake River.
Good memories!
Last time I went to the post office, the form was the size of a postcard. I've also learnt that you can change your address online. Perhaps Romney should get out more often.
Perhaps you should reference what was actually said. He was referencing changing your address for reimbursement thru Medicare, not an address change through the post office.
Remember, best to be silent and be thought an idiot than to speak and remove all doubt.
Why is this out of context? He said that WaWa was amazing because you can pay for your sandwich with a keypad. Sure, he then tried to use his amazement to prove a bogus point about the private sector, but that doesn't change the fact that he said he was amazed by WaWa's keypad.
Provided one is too ignorant to comprehend basic English, sure. For those who can read, they know you're wrong.
Is being mentally deficient a requirement to support Obama now?
Not hanging my hat on anything. Just pointing out that MSNBC didn't take his remark out of context.
Just checking --- you are literate, right? I'm willing to argue a person arguing from a position of intellectual honesty, but if you're arguing from intellectual non-existence, I'm not going to waste the time.
I have never been to a store with sandwich touch screen ordering.
Nor have I.
BTW, the example Romney used for government waste was Medicare. The fair comparison with Medicare is private health insurers. Anyone want to argue that they're better than Medicare?
Can you provide a link to the difficulty of changing an address via a private insurer? I'm sure lefty blogs would have something by now if it existed.
I'm not hammering Romney for calling WaWa amazing. But that is, in fact, what he said.
Good, because Romney never said Wawa was "amazing"
At 11:02, GM is concerned about Medicare fraud. OK, but when my dad's place was broken into and I had to move all his bank accounts, I was UNABLE to change the account his medicare premiums were PAID FROM. I tried online and over the phone. No joy. They wouldn't accept my power of attorney, oh no, he had to go in person.
So that possibly compromised bank account still exists, solely because it's too much trouble to get the feds to deal with the fact that some old folks are immobile.
It's not security, it's just bureaucracy.

I think it's your sincerity and good-faith comments like this that help you win the battle of ideas.
The problem is most get their news by osmosis via the tv news coming and going as they go about their lives so they are not news junkies and therefore don't know that they're being manipulated. They never learn the true story.
Yep, it is amazing that Romney hasn't encountered a vending machine style before. . .
It's my understanding that the Wawa screen is for ordering a sandwich that they make for you, not a vending machine. So your I'll skip that and eat where I can see folks prepare food with fresh ingredients is gnat-straining at its most egregious.
Nice to know that Walker's crushing defeat of the recall hasn't thrown garage off his game. Wonder how he'll react to Obama's crushing defeat this November? Only a few months until we get to find out...

Good thing El Rushbo never takes things out of context either...

Well I have health insurance, does that count? They seem to pay my claims without issue thus far. I'm too young for Medicare but I've sure seen plenty of those 'get your free scooter with medicare' ads.
I think "33 page form" is Zimmerman code for a 3 page form.
Just sayin....
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you don't have a lot of direct personal experience dealing with private health insurers (or Medicare).
I've worked for a private insurance company, for two physician groups, and for a hospital. I can say that AF, you are unequivocally full of it up to your earlobes.
Medicare is WAY more difficult to deal with from the provider AND the patient side, than any individual health insurer.
...typical...
Constantly complain about the government and do everything you can to keep good people from working for the government (state or federal), then complain about the services provided.
The Teabagger creed?
Andrea Mitchell opened her MSNBC show today with a very short statement that many sources have reached out to her saying that Romney had said much more in the stump speech. Mitchell proffered the explanation that she had not the opportunity to play the whole Romney statement.
MSNBC deserves all the abuse they are getting for their selective editing, and then some. This is just a taste of what's to come this October, I'm sure.
That much said, I so want Wawa to come out with a line of advertising that makes predominant use of the word "amazing" or "amazement." I want them to somehow benefit from this, because they're the best convenience store ever, hands-down. I was 30 before I ever visited one, but now I'm a convert. Clean stores, fresh fruit, fee-free ATMs, gas and restrooms (at some branches), and the touchscreen ordering is so convenient.
Just looking at the validity of the 33 page form claim, I found the 6 page form and, thanks to Xmas, the 27 page form.
They seem to be in conflict as each offers an opportunity to change the provider's address.
And note that 27 plus 6 equals 33.
I can see how conflicting forms, and differing responses from ill-informed CMS operators turned a simple address change into a major headache.
Whether or not that can be expanded to a general condemnation of all things governmental is questionable, but it does make a good talking point.
Good thing El Rushbo never takes things out of context either...
It could be the sort of malpractice that would destroy his career.
Andrea Mitchell is labeled a journalist by MSNBC. MSNBC labels ALL of their on-air personalities as journalists.
They made their own problem.
I think "33 page form" is Zimmerman code for a 3 page form.
A link to the specific form is in this very thread. XMas provided it.
Constantly complain about the government and do everything you can to keep good people from working for the government (state or federal), then complain about the services provided.
So your argument is that it got really bad all of a sudden?
Really?
Do you lack the shame to admit you don't know what you're talking about?
For those of us who live in the Greater Philadelphia area, Wawa is The Light and The Way in convenience stores. I think the "punch in your order" feature is relatively new. I could be wrong, though -- I rarely buy sandwiches at the Wawa.
It's innovation vs. non-innovation, not non-fraud prevention vs. fraud-prevention, dumb ass.
So Romney was advocating adding resources to Medicare to innovate and streamline it. He could have just said that, but it's good to hear.
Mitchell proffered the explanation that she had not the opportunity to play the whole Romney statement.
Which makes one wonder what on the show took up the extra minute of the statement she cut out.
Literally, could've played a whopping minute BEFORE the clip she played and get the context.

I bet you have all sorts of examples of conservatives "Keeping good people" from working in government.
Really. You do.
I will tell you what is "amazing," watching liberals like Garage utterly failing to understand the significance of the fact that a media outlet they *trust*, unlike Fox, for example, lies to them.
So Romney was advocating adding resources to Medicare to innovate and streamline it.
Has anything government related ever innovated? I love that you assume "Give them more money" is equivalent to innovating them.
"Touch-screen ordering is terrific. Versions of it have been around for years (government-owned Amtrak does a good job with it for example). There's nothing wrong with praising touch-screen ordering. But to call it "amazing" sounds slightly out of touch. If you disagree with MSNBC's point, fair enough. But Romney's remark wasn't taken out of context."
You still don't get it or are pretending you don't. They edited out his remarks preceding the Wawa moment. His example of amazing was the difference between Medicare and Wawa.
I just got off the phone with UPIN, another government entity. Apparently, a secretary at the medical school where I teach filled out the application years ago and guessed at the secret question answers, like where I was born and what my father's middle name was. I tried to log in and couldn't do it. I spent 30 minutes on hold and talking to a nice lady who finally let me in to correct the file.
The Post Office has touch screen ordering. Romney could have used that comparison at how stupid Medicare is. Medicare pays doctors about 20% of what they bill and two years later. That's why a lot of us have quit.
"do everything you can to keep good people from working for the government (state or federal)"
You mean preventing the union from deducting dues from paychecks ?
Great example !

Of course it would! But then again, maybe not
And here we go. True to form freeper provides a link that doesn't say what she claims it does.
1. Steve Doocy is not a "pundit"
2. The Washington Post made a correction
3. Steve Doocy did not edit any tape or transcript. Nor did he take to the air to misrepresent Obama's meaning.
Other than that, you're like spot on!
Don't you worry, Andrea Mitchell took to the air today to proclaim:
"there was more and we didn’t get a chance to play it”
See, isn't that nice?
Mitchell proffered the explanation that she had not the opportunity to play the whole Romney statement.
She then played the whole thing and commented on his actual meaning, right?
I'm pretty sure a 33 page form is preferable to a touch screen sandwich machine to prevent fraud.
What's your position on voter ID? Voter fraud is more important to me than Medicaid fraud, after all that's just money, voter fraud undermines our republic. Of course, like all the other greedy, money grubbing liberals, you have no real values. It's just a matter of what you can take from someone and give it to yourself for "free."

So at NBC 20 seconds isn't worth the truth?
I do not like touch-screen ordering. I much prefer interacting with someone who will take my order.
And yet I can't stand the chatty check-out people at Trader Joe's because they slow down my exit from the store.
She then played the whole thing and commented on his actual meaning, right?
Come on, who doesn't accept "dude, my bad!" as a reasonable explanation for butchering editing.
My, doesn't NBC tend to have problems with their editing of stories?
"Constantly complain about the government and do everything you can to keep good people from working for the government (state or federal), then complain about the services provided."
That's right, but you have it backward. First came the bad result, then we said fire the people responsible.
Yes, that's The Tea Party Creed
"I'm pretty sure a 33 page form is preferable to a touch screen sandwich machine to prevent fraud."
Oh Jesus on waffle a iron! The 33 page form is the fraud!
How much money is wasted paying bureaucrats to produce, distribute explain , receive, input, handle, file and respond to 33 pages?
A computer could do all the work and cross reference for fraud in less than 5 seconds.
I can't explain the sheer joy of ordering a sandwich on a touchscreen, taking your receipt to go pay for it and whatever chips or drink you're getting, then returning to the sandwich counter to have your freshly made sandwich ready and waiting for you - complete with lettuce, brown mustard (not yellow), and extra pickles. Or onions, oregano and oil if that's your thing. Or extra meat but still just one serving of cheese. The possibilities are endless and all right there on the screen.
I don't fault Romney one bit. It IS amazing. Now if only every restaurant let you order that way...
And to those who have questioned whether Wawa is really the best convenience store in the country - it is. Hands down. No question. I haven't had one near me since 2004, and I still miss it. Wawa puts Kum & Go, Open Pantry, Sheetz, 7-11, Quick Trip/ KwikTrip - puts them all to shame.
I will tell you what is "amazing," watching liberals like Garage utterly failing to understand the significance of the fact that a media outlet they *trust*, unlike Fox, for example, lies to them.
It's not that amazing. Not if you watched garage's epic self-beclowning on yesterday's Holder thread. His position is basically that everybody lies, all the time, and it doesn't make any difference because Scott Walker's a rotten poo-poo head. And the Koch brothers stole the election. Or the Freemasons. Or the Illuminati. Or something.
It was quite the performance. A nice curtain-raiser for his foam-flecked meltdown once Little Black Jesus has his coked-up ass booted out the door.
I remember ordering from a touchscreen at least 8 years ago at a Bethlehem (PA) Wawa.
She then played the whole thing and commented on his actual meaning, right?
No. She played the Wawa portion about the buttons and the government could profit from a little competition, but did not play the contextual setting about the optometrist who moved across town, needed to change his address with the Feds so he could get paid by Medicare, and was hit with a 33 page form. To fill out the form he called the Feds for help, completed the form, sent it in. A few weeks later the Feds said he'd filled out the form wrong and provided him with a fresh 33 page form.
That's when Romney went on to compare Wawa with WaDC.
I do not like touch-screen ordering. I much prefer interacting with someone who will take my order.
Depends on what it is. For sandwiches in particular I think it would be great, because there are SO many options - condiments, meats, veggies - that it would be an efficient way to order for you and the employee.
@ Chris
Didn't Romney say something about a "33 page form to change your address" at the post office?
Last time I went to the post office, the form was the size of a postcard. I've also learnt that you can change your address online. Perhaps Romney should get out more often.
If you are a licensed professional (as is the person in Romney's illustration) it is a huge big fucking deal to change your address. As a licensed securities representative, life insurance agent and registered investment advisor (RIA) when I moved my office, I had to contact at least 4 different federal agencies, several at EACH state where I was licensed to do business. PLUS contact each and everyone of the many investment and insurance companies that I was licensed to do business with.
It is even worse when you are also changing your banking/direct deposit at the same time.
"Romney told the audience about an optometrist who wanted to change his address and subsequently received 33 pages of paperwork from the federal government, which begat a months-long bureaucratic nightmare during which the optometrist in question wasn't receiving his checks. "
Perhaps you should try actually reading the linked article instead of spewing without thinking.
Wawa, a coffee shop that gives you what you want! What a concept.
Starbucks, take note. Herding us by strategically placed railings past rows of your tasteless blocks of faux pastry will not compel us to purchase them. I've found a couple of shops in town that use your coffee and give us real French pastries!
Disney World began using touchscreen menus in a couple of restaurants in 2000. They've added more since then.
I like them because I know that my order is placed correctly. That's one step closer to having it made correctly. Also, it's easier look at the touchscreen than a menu up on a wall. I wish all quick service/fast-food restaurants had them.
Andrea Mitchell was a hack when she worked in Philadelphia and wanted to make a name for herself going after Frank Rizzo.
Nothing has changed.
Why do you touchscreen-lovers hate hard-working Americans, wanting to replace them with cheap, non-union touchscreen made in Mexico?
Touch screen menus.
A good idea..BUT...I wouldn't want to touch one without disinfecting it first.
You don't know where those other people's fingers have been.
:-D
Andrea Mitchell is proof that Alen Greenspan's six senses ceased functioning a long time ago.
PS Am I the only that has extreme difficulty figuring the captcha? I think it proves you're a robot if you can figure it out.

Hahahahaha, I just went and read his comments.
Too funny.
He is obsessed with this bizarre "Mitt Romney and Scott Walker lie all the time!" meme.
As mentioned earlier, in northern Pa we have Sheetz. Same touch screen ordering for your hot or cold specialty food.
1) You order. 2)You pay for it. 3)While you are paying for it, they are making it fresh.
It is the best convenience store in these parts, bar none. And with their gas card, you get 3 cents per gallon discount.
Named after the Sheetz brothers - no kidding.
MSNBC is a 24/7 infomercial.
So are these touch screens stealing people's jobs the same way Obama says ATMs do?
Maybe that is the real source of their anger, these scab touch screens!
I don't know about Wawa, but Sheetz has had the touch-screen realtime sandwich ordering system in place for at least five-six years up here in central PA. I've never been particularly impressed with Wawas - they struck me as a little dirty, a little empty, more like Unimart than Sheetz - but then, I'm not a coffee person, so maybe that makes up for it.
garage: I'm pretty sure a 33 page form is preferable to a touch screen sandwich machine to prevent fraud.
how in the name of reason do you associate the length of a government form as an attribute of preventing fraud?
and adding a method of ordering to-go sandwiches is icing on a towering cake of idiocy.
garage, you used to make at least some sense. i'd ask what happened but perhaps it's contagious.

10 comments and not a single Barbara Walters joke?
It's called "Baba's" in western PA.
when i'm in New Jersey I sometimes stop at the Mahwah WaWa. Barbara Walters stopping there would be too much for me to handle...
News media? Of course they're lying...their mouths are moving. That's why we should be thankful for bloggers and for the opportunity to comment. This thread alone has provided more information than any news service could or would ever provide. Now I, and others, can asses for myself who's lying and who isn't. It's painful to watch, but what an amazing tool of truth we have in the Internet.
Nice to know that Walker's crushing defeat of the recall hasn't thrown garage off his game. Wonder how he'll react to Obama's crushing defeat this November?
Same -- hold his breath waiting for *Romney* to be indicted.
Remember when nuance was a thing journalists paid attention to?
Freder: The guy apologized and clarified his botched paraphrase (http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/fox-news-steve-doocy-clarifies-misquoting-obama-silver-140707260.html). Once Mitchell apologizes for her deceptive editing and lying, then they'll be the same. Thanks for proving my point that the conservative commentator was criticized until he apologized though!
Let's suppose that Romney had in fact found the Wawa touch screen amazing. What's the point?
Is he more out of touch with the basics of everyday life than our incumbent president, who referred to a thermostat as a "thingamajig"--while speaking at a Honeywell thermostat plant?
Princeton philosopher Peter Singer has argued that we should judge people by what they eat: following the popular adage, "you are what you eat." I imagine followers of Singer would like to know what kind of sandwich Romney ordered, and then compare it to the kind of sandwich that Obama typically orders (if Obama could follow the complicated typing out of the instructions without help).
WaWa's strikes me as a clean place packed with the latest in foodstuffs. One hopes that Romney didn't order foie gras, which is forbidden in Romney's native Chicago by orders of the city council. Just outside the city's borders some restaurants offer the forbidden meat as a delicacy.
Romney spent time in Paris as a youth, where they eat frogs' legs and all kinds of meats, including foie gras and eyes of newt. Obama might just order up a dog as a cold cut sub, though, forgetting he's no longer in Indonesia and can't have Fido on a bun.
"Andrea Mitchell said: "she had not the opportunity to play the whole Romney statement.""
Likely enough. She's a "news reader" isn't she? Not that I figure she's off the hook since we're supposed to pretend that the "news readers" are real reporters and news analysts. It's an admission that she's not a reporter and certainly not an analyst. She's a news reader and personality.
So.
Obviously someone *else* who's job it is to put the news together for the segment is the one who should be apologizing for it, someone who's job actually is creating the news cast content.
Yet another intern who hates her boss, perhaps. Seems to be a lot of malicious editing going on in the world.

According to one of our resident progressives it is OK to lie. Especially in the service of a progressive cause.
These are the people who are teaching your children.
"Princeton philosopher Peter Singer has argued that we should judge people by what they eat:"
Isn't he the same "philosopher" who says we should be able to "abort" a two year old simply because we have a whim?
"Let's make Medicare fraud as easy as ordering a sandwich from a machine.
Bold ideas. No apologies!"
LOL!
On the other hand, lets make vote fraud difficult.
Hm?
For what it's worth I've only seen one of those self-order touch screen things and it was at Jack in the Box.
Last time I was there they didn't have it any more.
I think it wasn't busy enough for it to work well and people really would rather order from a nice young person who smiles at them.
There is only one thing in this country that can compare to the Wawa sandwich ordering machine. The self-betting sportsbook kiosk at the Imperial Palace in vegas. If I could put them together, I'd move next door to wherever it was and never go anywhere else.
Please do not confuse the Sheetz brothers with the deceased Sen. Robert C. Byrd and his siblings. They are not the same.
Big fail by the liberals and progressive Jews running NBC/MSNBC.
1. Of course they are dying to show that rich man Romney is out of touch with the people...unlike their Black Messiah...who regularly connibes in soirees and fundraising get-togethers with ordinary elite college people, faculties, pedestrian Hollywood celebs, media, and wealthy man of the people fundraisers - in his daily interactions.
But to show Romney was out of touch, they couldn't resist doctoring video..just like it was necessary to get the hidden racist truth about George Zimmerman out.
2. Pity they live in the age of the Internet. They get caught where in the past, "Out of touch", "he deserted the military!" liberal and progressive Jewish "Narratives" against their enemies stood relatively unchallenged.
3. One reason the people detest media and certain pols is that we know they are of average intelligence at best, perhaps lower fot most, certainly lower for some....Yet on air they pretend to be wise and all-knowing and are SHOCKED!! and APPALLED!! that some leader they detest does not know all the details of Dingell-Norwood, the Ledbetter Act, or that the whole country already knew about and was impressed with the WAWA ordering system before "out-of-touch rich man Romney" said it was amazing.
4. And it sure helps their Black Messiah in a swing state to denigrate the other candidate for saying he saw something in Pennsyvania that impressed him!!! To inform people in Pennsyvania that the wise media pundits in the bag for Obama say that they really don't have anything special and worthy of praise in the state...compared to DC and Manhattan....The only thing Pennsyvania has are problems - the people who suffer in black areas of Philly - all the hero government police, firefighters and teachers that need the Federal government to save their jobs. Nothing that their state has would please or amaze a better informed man than Romney..
33 pages is what you need if you can't ask for a photo ID or a birth certificate that has actually been issued by a State featuring a raised seal.
As of July 1, the currently for profit multi-specialty physicians practice for which I do billing will become not-for-profit like the hospital system that owns it. We started the credentialing process for the change in August of 2011. Why? Because that 33 page form to change our billing information with Center for Medicare/Medicaid Services had to be completed and accepted by CMS before we could begin the process of changing our credentialing information with commercial insurers.
CMS controls not only our Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement, but also the National Provider Identifiers which every one of our 70 doctors, physician assistants and nurse practitioners must have attached to his/her medical license before any commercial insurer will credential them.
33 pages x 70 doctors and then another, albeit shorter, set of forms for each commercial payer. And we know that even though we've worked more than six months on this, there will be payers who don't pay us at all during the month of July.
I wish it was as simple as a postcard...heck, I wish CMS were as simple as BlueCross and BlueShield.

Unlike your little tin demi-god, who stole $500 BILLION from Medicare, and then double counted the "savings" in order to make his health care takeover appear (laughably) revenue neutral, as the CBO finally admitted. I wouldn'd doubt you didn't even know that, since the only places you get your "news" is MediaMatters and AttackWatch.

The faux-trage is almost as uninteresting and uncompelling as MSNBC's faux-shock. I give your performance here a 6.2, Althouse.
We need competing forms of medicine. Not enough homeopathy and other non-science-based forms of medicine! Need moar alternative medicine and traditional faith healing from mah government! Just like the privates sector provides!
Moar snakes!
Just think about it! If the government was more like the privates sector, Medicare would provide you with berries to rub on your rashes and wounds! It's competition! Wonderful! Why do doctors (but only government doctors) always have to think there is a single "best practice" for a particular situation? Nonsense! There are thousands!!!1!1!!1 There are role-playing games! There are knights and shamans and wizards!!!1!!1
I touched a pad and I liked it!
Like wyo sis, I never patronize MSNBC. In fact, I don't have cable TV. The internet and blogs like Althouse keep you way more informed than the Lamestream media.
Cute, Ritmo.
Someone actually provides an example of the difficulty of wading through this paperwork and shows quite clearly how it must negatively impact service, and you go on a riff about homeopathy.
And you say that *I'm* down on my game?
Making a joke of a serious concern only makes you and your "side" look like children who shouldn't be trusted with so much as an aspirin bottle.

In the clip of R-Money that was provided, I heard no reference to paperwork. Just a couple of "Golly Geez" and "Aw shucks" when it came to buttons on screens.

Hey. I've been the one providing facts and statistics. Folksy anecdotes are nice, but they're not as good.

I assume, by way of precedent, that by "serious concern" you mean paperwork. Yes, that is a much more serious issue than care denied. If you want to believe that.

Only if you trust that facts trump feelings.

Please link to the version you of the Romney button/33 pages video that you watched. It's become quite clear over the course of the day that NBC has yet again been busted at misleading edits of media to conform to their narrative.
Go find yourself an unedited version and you might understand what people are talking about re Romney's talk on Medicare paperwork and how it relates to the edited version and touchpads.
Never heard of Wawa's before, but I'll be in NJ and NY in August and I've already located the Wawa's nearest me! Cool.
Really, what HAS become of journalistic integrity in the 21st Century? I have long thought we were living in a new era of Yellow Journalism, but we are way beyond Hearst now.
And to think this includes the wife of a recent Federal Reserve Chairman, who has so little integrity as to be this cheesy. It shows how shallow and cheap this political-media oligarchy is.
Not to mention, this is journalistic treason, it is a betrayal of the Public trust, it is Evil. If Andrea Mitchell has some kind of license, it should be revoked.
'Hey. I've been the one providing facts and statistics.'
Where? You don't seem to have a clue about the subject at hand.
Oh well. You go off without any grasp of the subject matter at hand and come off as an asshat in every thread you scat in. Every time.
Just as a matter of curiosity, does it ever bother you that that is the consistent and reliable impression you project? Or are you pure obtuse troll without enough introspective ability to appreciate it?
I think I see for the first time the lamestream media feeling shame and embarassment over how they are seen, stenographers for obama and teh democratic party. When Politico starts piling on you know you are sunk.
