"Bain and Financial Industry Gave Over $565,000 To Newark Mayor Cory Booker For 2002 Campaign."

That's a headline over at ThinkProgress, and it's getting a lot of attention, but let's look at the detail:
Contributions to his 2002 campaign from venture capitalists, investors, and big Wall Street bankers brought him more than $115,000 for his 2002 campaign. Among those contributing to his campaign were John Connaughton ($2,000), Steve Pagliuca ($2,200), Jonathan Lavine ($1,000) — all of Bain Capital....
So 3 guys who work at Bain gave Booker a total of $5,200.
[Booker] and his slate also jointly raised funds for the “Booker Team for Newark” joint committee. They received more than $450,000 for the 2002 campaign from the sector — including a pair of $15,400 contributions from Bain Capital Managing Directors Joshua Bekenstein and Mark Nunnelly.
So there's another $30,800, for a total of $36,000. Just doing the math. Does Think Progress think that contributions from the financial industry taint the opinions of the politicians? Because... what's the number for Obama?

Every time I see the name "ThinkProgress", I chuckle.

This is a great test. Will mention of the "$565,000 to Booker" find its way into maninstream media coverage this week? Let's watch!

But Obama is more evolved. He uses capitalists $ to start the Revolution that will execute them all.

Mitt is so old fashioned that he actually believes that he has private property which is not held on consignment from Emperor Obama I and his War Drones.

Attacking contributions is a motif for this year's campaign. The US Attorney General is investigating two Ohio Republicans for supposed improper contributions from business. Just in time to potentially influence their electability this year.

So wait, the defense is that Booker was bought, but now, that he is elected, he is able to speak out against the financial industry because... Democrat?

Or did they publish that before he did his walkback/hostage video? I'm so confused.

He still ran into a burning building to save people; he's mayor for life if he can be.

You are making a poor assumption. You are presupposing that Think Progress members think at all. At least outside a narrowly tailored dogma that suits their own purposes, anyway.

Brian Brown म्हणाले...

Um, has Mayor Booker run a campaign since 2002, and wouldn't contributions more recent than 10 years ago be relevant to the discussion?

Nothing like watching smug, white leftists smear a black man though!

Hagar म्हणाले...

Corey Booker is a Democrat, just not their kind of Democrat.

And these are the Dems complaining about the Republicans insisting on ideological purity and refusing to "reach across the aisle" to "solve the nation's problems"!

Lavine fund raises for Obama. Bain execs are not monolithic politically.

MaggotAtBroad&Wall म्हणाले...

This is one of ThinkProgress's dumbest attacks. The Bain employees who donated to his campaign are almost certainly rich limousine liberals who like funding the campaigns of fellow liberals.

Actually, Booker ought to be insulted that ThinkProgress is suggesting that he is so corrupt that it took only a tiny amount of donations from Bain employees to buy his influence.

Brian Brown म्हणाले...

Can we get a thinkprogress headline?

President Obama raised far more cash from hedge fund and private equity donors than any other candidate in the 2008 election cycle.

According to an analysis by the nonprofit group Open Secrets, Obama took in nearly $3.5 million from large private-equity donors that year — nearly twice what his general-election rival, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), pocketed

Outrage!

Does this mean Koch Industries didn't give Booker anything at all? Man, he's clean.

As always...that's different because shut up.

Hagar म्हणाले...

This guy must be really clean if they have to go clear back to 2002 to find something to charge him with.
And that from inside their own party!

It is comical to watch Dems and Reps bash each other over who is taking money from big bad wall street. They both are "dirty" in that regard. Wall Street likes a good hedge, even if the hedge does not work very well. I am sure if they could pool politicians promises and sell tranches they would and then take out CDS on them. Important safety tip: do not accuse someone of doing what you have been doing for years.

Republicans don't seem to care that Democrats are taking money from Wall St. Just that it seems to be in total opposition to their stances.

Why should the Democrats not be expected to live up to their ideals?

Important safety tip: do not accuse someone of doing what you have been doing for years.

Republicans weren't whining that Wall St ran the government.

Mike (MJB Wolf) म्हणाले...

These guys (Think Progress, Cox and all the fall-in-line liberals willing to suspend their belief in reality to push the One's campaign forward) are dumber than I ever thought possible, and waxing dumber every day. What a show we are in for!

Lyle म्हणाले...

Think Progress, I think they may actually help Democrats lose elections.
