Sarah Palin, comedienne.

On the "Today" show today. You have to watch a John Deere commercial to get to the short bit in the clip at the link, but it's quite funny, showing Palin "doing her homework." She's reading all the newspapers. You remember when Katie Couric asked her what newspapers she read — specifically — and she said she read "all of 'em, any of 'em that have been in front of me over all these years."

The willingness for self-deprecation indicates a degree of humility.

Good on 'ya, Mrs. Palin.

Because taking yourself too seriously is such a bore.

Who is this mama grizzly of which you speak?

btw, is Meade still enamored w/palin? Rhetorical.

Palin still mixes mental toughness with a winning personality that makes you want to be around her.

Too bad she is a mere woman.

I didn't have to watch the John Deere commercial, was it good?

Palin looking good.

"I didn't have to watch the John Deere commercial, was it good?"

Meade likes it and we analyzed it and had some laughs about it. They've got some guy on this law mowing tractor that's all about making it easy and has a big cushiony seat that they are essentially saying will fit your fat ass, but they man riding the mower is of course fit and manly, and the actor has the task of making riding the little tractor mower look simultaneously easy and hard.

Because if it's not hard, it's not manly.

I made that last sentence a separate paragraph as a demonstration of my capacity to write (a spoof of) an advertising slogan.

I used to work in a famous NYC ad agency, btw.

I saw something where Matt Lauer asked her if she was going to read some newspapers to prep.

Hell, I'll bet she reads ten times as many as Lauer.

I have read more books than anyone I know personally, though not on the level of some of course, and if an interviewer wanted to make me look stupid and I allowed them to film me for a while and cut up the entire thing as they saw fit, I would come accros as either an idiot or as an outrageous egosit.

Palin's problem is she allowed the media to control her image, which though I have no special insight I suspect was the branstorm of McCain, who always overestimated his influence on the media, and not her idea. Whenever I have seen her talk in speeches or ad lib, I have always been impressed with her wit and generally with her learning. I'm not at all suprised she looks good on television.

I like the part where she says a woman in front of the NBC building mistakes her for Tina Fey.

Leave my fat ass out of it.

You betcha. That woman is gonna rain millions of shards into the eyes of the American people.

I love the way Palin can get people worked up. She's a national treasure.

Rabel म्हणाले...

Love her or hate her, the woman has a dominating screen presence.

Which might in part explain both the love and the hate.

It's hard to believe she was manipulated by the press. In any case, she sure learned fast. No one is getting away with it now, least of all Matt Lauer. She wiped the floor with him, and exposed him as the smug, unlikable frat boy he is.

As stunt casting goes, it's pretty good. I wonder if it'll help in the ratings.

Still don't like her Minnesota accent.

Don't mind the accent. HATE the timbre of her voice. That high and somewhat nasal tone when she is really getting excited, trying to make a point and project her voice.

Many women have this shrill tone when they are attempting to project. Hillary was similar.

Grating to the ear.

At least she doesn't -- at least I haven't heard her do this -- do what so many women do (and it drives me, and my wife crazy when we hear it): Put an upward inflection at the end of statement, as if you're asking a question. I always want to ask the people doing this: Why are you verbalizing that perfectly good statement like it's a question!!?

It's odd what flips peoples' switches :)

This is not just a sexist comment because I'm a professional misogynist, but although I never found her that attractive before, I just changed my mind. She looks great!. I want to be adopted by her and go fishing with the family.

1775OGG म्हणाले...

Whoa, there was a John Deere commercial there? Where? I didn't see it, just Matt Lauer, some other babe, plus Gov. Palin, who's quite the babe herself!

Ok, was that commerical funny? Cuz I missed it!

Joe Schmoe म्हणाले...

I want to be adopted by her and go fishing with the family.

Umm, yeah, me too. Fishing.

Actually I'd rather just have sex with her.

Who's your daddy now, bagoh?

When I come down to breakfast wife always has the TV tuned to the "Today Show." I didn't miss Couric when she left. Wouldn't mind seeing Palin there.

Do tell...who won the ratings war, Katie or Sarah?

SCOTTtheBADGER म्हणाले...

Does anyone remember the ads for Deere garden tractors, that compared them to the full sized Deeres? They started the ad with a big articulated 8850 going across a lawn, and lowering and raising a 15 botton plow, with the voice over saying " You can plow the average garden plot in 15 seconds with a John Deere 8850, but it can be hard to maneuver in a back yard" as the tractor goes right through the neighbors garage as it turna around, "Or you can do it in half an hour with a John Deere 400 series garden tractor with it's ortional attatched tiller". I seem to recal a second commercial with a mow off between a Deere combine with a 25 foot header, and a 400 with a 48 inch deck.

She also took over a dressing room, Matt Lauer's, evidently, because he got all hormonal about it, and was "caught" by the camera man writing notes on her hand in Sharpie. She knows how to insert a nail file into her opponent's liver and twist it.

Love that woman.

Synova म्हणाले...

The real important question... did she get higher ratings than Katie?
