Nutin she loves more than everyone talkin bout her.
I used to be a photographer, and I was taking photos of the meet and greet for The Judds getting a gold record. It was the normal thing, then this lovely creature walked in. It was Ashley at 16. She was really lovely and sweet as I recall.
She is still lovely, but WHAT A BIMBO!!!!!!!!!! Not bright, and completely clueless to that! So her face and body may be lately puffy, but her brain is nice and squishy, just like it always has been, and likely always will be.
Yeah, when I glanced over that article, I thought if Judd would give up walking on the red carpet with whatever designer wear posing for the cameras. If she is doing that then these other things are fair game.
Tmink- I did not know Ashley was related to the singing Judds.
Re her face, it is the first thing I could not help but notice when I saw the promos for her new show. I also wondered why they hired her since starlet quality looks are pretty high up on the list of things you need to star in this kind of show. And she is past that.

I agree that’s the direction that most similar shows (Alias, Nikita, La Femme Nikita, Covert Affairs, etc.) seem to have gone but I actually think it’s kind of an interesting choice to cast an older actress in that role. We’ve seen how action TV shows (24) and movies (The Expendables, Taken) have cast much older actors in these roles and I’m interested enough to watch at least the first few episodes that I’ve recorded.
"Judd issued an initial statement, explaining that the puffiness in her face was the result of multiple-rounds of steroid medication used to battle a persistent cold."
That was my first guess, but steroids for a rheumatologic disorder, or asthma, but not a cold.
Judd complains how they are focused on her (puffy) appearance while selling her appearance elsewhere. People don't want to buy her puffy appearance. Get in shape if you selling your looks.
I much prefer Judd's puffy but still beautiful face to Angelina Jolie's anorexic appearance, that was hideous. If women's beauty is now measured by how skinny they are, no wonder our granddaughters are being inspired to starve themselves.
Thanks for the link, I agree with Ace – to the extent that Ashley Judd is feeling oppressed that other women are criticizing her for her looks (as straight men couldn’t care less about whether her face is puffy or not), it’s not the fault of a patriarchy, it’s the fault of feminism. ;)
Judd went on to lament the fact that women are not only “joining in the ongoing disassembling of my appearance,” but are also responsible for shining a spotlight on her “puffy” face in the first place. According to Judd, this proves that patriarchy “is not men. Patriarchy is a system in which both women and men participate… It is subtle, insidious, and never more dangerous than when women passionately deny that they themselves are engaging in it.”
See, for a liberal, no matter who is engaging in bad behavior, it is the fault of straight white American men.
It's women who are attacking her, but according to her it's because "patriarchy" somehow made women catty towards other women. If it weren't for those old white men who evaluated women on their looks, then women wouldn't care about their looks, and they wouldn't take pleasure in tearing down beautiful women when their looks deteriorate.
So, Ashley Judd is warning us men: stop caring about how a woman looks! You must evaluate women based on their intellect - but don't start discriminating against stupid women, either!
I guess the next logical step for the American Left is to pass a law requiring everyone to wear a unisex communist-style clothing. No makeup, comrade! That is capitalistic degeneracy!
Leaving aside the wrongness of her premise (that having her body criticized by women in somehow the fault of the patriarchy), it's just a poorly-written piece. Aggressive use of multiple-syllable words is not proof of intelligence; it merely proves that one has gone to graduate school but never progressed beyond the tendency to write like an earnest graduate student.
Beautiful woman is upset that something written is less than flattering?
If you don't want people to judge your looks, you can avoid the public spotlight. Not that hard to go anonymous if you really want to do so.
And let's not pretend that boys don't have some insane body types they are supposed to achieve. Steroid/HGH use is becoming an issue in high school now for a reason, and it's not just for an edge on the football field.
If you are a celebrity it is not at all easy to be anonymous. Paparazzi camp outside your home.
Do you know WHY they do that?
Because celebrities have publicists who TELL them where they are and when to be there.
If a celeb wishes to be anonymous, disappearing isn't really that hard. You won't have photographers on every beach, road, house, or diner in the country.
They want the attention. If the paparazzi WASN'T there, then they'd be worried.
When did this become a screed about "pretending" that men and boys don't fall into the same trap? No one's "pretending" that. Why don't you just bring it up as a legitimate topic instead of accusing the world here in general for something they did not do.
Because all one hears about is that women are held up to unachievable standards of beauty.
You know, as if men aren't.
But I know you can't keep up. I don't hold you to an unreasonable standard of intellect...for you.
I'd expect my 7 yr old to keep up, but he's clearly brighter than you.
When did this become a screed about "pretending" that men and boys don't fall into the same trap? Pretty much from the point where Ashley Judd referred to this as a “conversation about women’s bodies” and then went on to throw around the usual platitudes of “sexism,” “misogyny” and “patriarchy” while casting women and girls in the role of the victim.
Steroids? BS - that is the longest cold and sinus infection ever. I saw her on the ancestry show "who do you think you are" months ago and thought, oh no, she's injecting the collagen, etc. You know if the show aired in the fall, it was probably filmed in the Spring so we are looking at a very long flu. She was so puffy and weird looking. Steroids? BS. Sorry, her mom and her sister have had a lot of work done too.
What's sad is she is playing to the "patriarchy" with the collagen/restalyne injecttions and then denying the obvious. I wish these people would stop. She is beautiful and I think she would have looked better naturally with a few wrinkles.

Ha! With that puffy face, she looks like someone who'd blame the "patriarchy."

Puff Juddy? Didn't he used to be J. Lo's BF?
Sean Combs call your office!
@pm32: I presume you hold that opinion about all red carpets. What about Angelina's leg?
Anorexia isn’t really a turn on for me personally but YMMV.
Self reverential.. as opposed to referential

You want us to talk about people talking about Judd talking about everyone talking about her looking puffy?
It would be aces if Ashley Judd came in here and started talking.

Not everybody.
Drudge is featuring emaciated Obama today.
I think Ace said it all...

That's not puffy, just a little fleshy.
She's what, 40? That's normal.
Better to look like that than some of these women who try to look "young" by emaciating themselves.

It was a lot easier to like Ashley Judd when the only things she spoke were her lines.
I hear you mariner. I just expect entertainers and artists to be somewhat borderline in their personality and complete idiots in their politics.
I am rarely disappointed.

Ashley can BS but I'd advise her to stop with the face lifts, she has ruined her looks. I'm from KY and want to pull for her.
Blah blah blah blah me.

And I should have known better about damikesc. All he does is throw around insults.
So, I'm you --- except I actually know what I'm talking about.
@CatherineM,
That's what I thought, too - cosmetic injections.
