..and their hand firmly planted in your wallet.

I thought "PC" was an era marker and stood for "Post Christian" --sort of did like "BC" and "AD" used to do.

Apple is the computer of the future- and always will be.

Been hearing this for 30 years, and am still typing on a PC.

Too many trees. More forest. What's new in it? Just faster with better display?

That's because you're stuck in the past.

When you've created the Platonic ideal of the tablet computer with your very first one, what can succeeding iterations be but mere tweaking and fine-tuning?

Platonic ideals, by definition, cannot exist.

Ha! Heard Apple is sitting on $100 billion in cash!

If you're not using it with kids, the Kindle Fire is better than the iPad, so enough with the Apple Is Incredible! nonsense.

Apple is generally overhyped, though I do like their displays and the mousepad on the MacBook is quite awesome.

Having both, I like the Fire better than the iPad.

The problem with both is.. no keyboard and no multitasking. How this acceptable in a real computer I don't understand. They are toys.

Sure, you can get a keyboard for an iPad... but why not just get a real computer at that point?

So what are the chances that Apple will go beyond just another version of the same product and have another ground-breaking product?

The guy who pushed Apple into innovation is dead, and we all remember what happened last time Jobs left Apple on its own.

Well, yes. A real computer costs less than a tablet and it does more. BUT, tablets are very profitable toys because they get replaced so frequently. Whereas PC hardware and software has become stable enough so that one can use one for many years before it becomes obsolete.

Ha! Apple does the impossible and doesn't even breathe hard!

Even Apple doesn't claim iPad replaces PCs. That's why they still make and sell laptop and desktop computers.

The iPad is a portable device that allows people on the go to do much of the casual tasks that they otherwise require computers to do.

I'd bet they've found through research that many people in the country who own computers do little more with them than surf the internet and check emails...tasks that can be easily and conveniently done with iPad. Moreover, as technology becomes more powerful, we will probably see tablet-form computers in future as powerful and functional as desktop and laptop computers of today.

Sans Steve Jobs, they're slipping. I even heard one liberal yelling, "WHERE'S THE TV!!"

Getting one almost exclusively for use in our homeschool. Most of our curriculum materials are in .pdf form, and I love the ease of access for the kiddos. (Not carrying my laptop around everywhere, worrying that it'll get dropped.)

We have a nook Tablet, which is nice, but renders things a bit on the small size. It's nice for Netflix, though.
