"Five years ago today, a few thousand of us gathered in Springfield, Illinois, to launch an improbable campaign for president."

Email from Barack Obama.
The task was to build a grassroots movement capable of making the kind of change we believe in.

You've got to see this video about that journey -- it will make you smile...
Oh, really? Let me try...

Trying to rekindle the old spirit. Did I smile? Of course! It's a nice presentation of all the smiley Obama-related things there are... including catching the fly, dancing with Ellen, hugging his daughters, singing "Let's Stay Together," and saying he just killed Bin Laden. And Joe Biden. I always laugh when I see Joe Biden, but maybe that's just me.

I assume this is some attempt to reclaim the feel-good times of the distant past.

It's a sad day when Biden could see the firestorm coming with the Catholics, advised against it, and wasn't listened to.

Or is that scary?

Five years. Like an anniversary of a bad Vegas marriage... caught up in the excitement, the glamour of the Strip, the sales pitch that Elvis made to preside over the ceremony...

And then you sober up and realize that you need to get divorced. First you see if Elvis can do that too...

Every year you take this day to reflect, to remind yourself that your human judgment is faulty and that that you ought to not act so much on emotion. A day of solemn introspection, every year.

Does he include the part where gas prices spike 60 cents in May and kick off a new round of layoffs?

Both.

Halo Joe is now not only the only adult in the room, he's the voice of moderation and reason.

That's his big problem.

GodZero's numbers always go up when people can't see him or hear him (vacation, weekend, etc.).

As soon as he's in the public eye, the numbers tank.

And, yes, Axelrod and Plouffe are very aware of it, which is why they're hoping for a long primary season.

I have a large bullfrog living in my pond. Although he's a fine bullfrog and fly catching is only one of his many endearing qualities, I will not vote for him if he runs.

It's very warm here today, so I do intend to have a beer summit with him this evening.

He wants to replay his original role of a courageous and clean black man who smiles his love at us.

Too late for that. The mask is off.

The Killer of Osama, the Father of his country's Death Panels, and the hard hearted re-maker of America had better stay in character and pray Romney runs a narrow campaign about Rich capitalists being able to save the country.

Actually, it's tragic.

Not for Obama, of course.

He's been exposed, and the penalty for being such an obvious grifter depends upon how many voters learn from their mistake.

And therein lies the tragedy - that so many Americans, foolishly, irresponsibly, blindly allowed themselves to be duped into voting for the least experienced man ever nominated for the presidency by a major political party.

The Founding Fathers thought, contrary to Aristotle, that the emancipated citizen could, by acting rationally, be trusted to govern himself. 53% of American voters went and proved Aristotle right instead, cannibalizing America's future in the process.

Hooray for them. Today's a day for serious reflection for those voters, if they're smart enough to realize what they've done.

I fear too many do not.

MaggotAtBroad&Wall म्हणाले...

I heard Imus say the other day that Obama's going to say in his campaign: "I killed bin Laden, saved GM, and sing like Al Green. Now, what do you have to offer, Mitt"?

All three of those things made the video. And the background music is so uplifting and positive.

It makes me want to forget the $5 trillion in new debt he's saddled us with (for those keeping score that's about $1.6 million of debt he's added for each new job created since the Great Recession ended) and how Obamacare is the first step toward socialized medicine which will give the govenment the ability to dictate almost every aspect of how I live. All for my own good, of course.

I have to hand it to that AxelPlouffe crew. They can feed you a shit sandwich and make you believe it's filet mignon.

As well as being willing to institute totalitarianism as long as they get their food stamps and birth control pills.

No. He's definitely buffoon like.

Kirk Parker म्हणाले...

Admittedly Biden's a buffoon, but what's funny about someone like that pretending to play a serious role?

Me, I always figured Biden was just impeachment insurance--if there's one thing we learned from Campaign 2008, it's that whatever electoral experience people from our least populous states have, it can't be considered as actual experience because their states are so small. Well, Delaware is #45 in the list, just two notches up from Alaska...

As an aside

Four Wisconsin lawmakers targeted for possible recall later this year filed challenges on Thursday to the validity of thousands of signatures gathered to force the special elections, the state’s Government Accountability Board said.

Organizers of the drive to recall the four Republican state senators submitted more than 18,000 pages of signed petitions with the board last month. Thursday was the deadline for the four lawmakers, including Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, to lodge objections with the board.

In a statement, Fitzgerald cited “a wide range of irregularities, errors and outright falsehoods” in the petitions submitted to force him to defend his seat. He said he planned to challenge 4,300 of the signatures, which could be enough to derail the effort to unseat him.

All four Republicans supported the controversial curbs on public-sector union collective bargaining powers that were enacted in Wisconsin last year.

The measure, which greatly reduces the power of most public-sector unions in the state, triggered nine recall elections of state senators last summer. Two Republican senators were recalled.

Critics of the law have also targeted Governor Scott Walker and Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, both Republicans, for possible recalls later this year.

Don't forget, dancing with Ellen and singing Al Green are part of the list also. I vote we send him to Broadway or the Apollo Theater and then he can have loving crowds who clap every time he appears and the rest of us can ignore him.
