... don't worry about overreaching.

(The item pictured, from the Chazen Museum is an ivory object from 19th century Japan.)

Overreaching would never occur to me. Just the truth, as always.

He's not heavy, but he's got a really long left arm that keeps tripping me up.

This cracks me up, even if it is overreaching (deliberately.

Is the sculpture's figure in front a woman with tits that flap below her waistline?

Is this a "rape from behind" exhibit?

At first look, it appeared to be a utensil on a napkin.

Where are you eating?

What kind of ivory? I haven't read much at all about the elephants of Japan.

The ivory must have been due to contact with India. They took their miso and their fancy Imari ceramics and came back with Buddhism and elephant teefs.

The carved ivory depicts a Japanese oral tradition; the long-legged god [Ashinaga] carries the long-armed god [Tenaga]on his back. The pair fish and pick up shellfish [and octopus, apparently] in Suwa-ko [Suwa Lake]. That lake is in Nagano prefecture. There is a shrine -- Ashinaga Ginga -- in Suwa City which was founded in the Ninth Century.
Hope this helps...
