AND: I know, I know. Exit polls. But remember exit polls in 2004? Here's what I wrote that strange November evening:
Yes, I care a lot about the outcome of the election, and I'm sitting here waiting for the news to come in, sampling the dribbled out exit polls, and fretting. But at the same time, I feel complete assurance that as soon as the outcome is known, I'll fully accept it. Either man will make a decent enough President. I think Bush deserves to continue in office, but if it is to be Kerry, Kerry can handle the job too.... It is equanimity that flows through me. Time for a nice glass of win, a plate of pasta with Bolognese sauce, and a calm absorption of reality.IN THE COMMENTS: AJ Lynch said:
UPDATE: "A nice glass of win" -- ah, so hope does live on! Time for a nice glass of wine and toast to hope! A glass to be refilled later, perhaps, in a quenching of sorrow!
ANOTHER UPDATE: 10:53 p.m. Maybe I am going to get that nice glass of win after all. I'm really surprised. I let those exit polls affect me. Then I called up my sister in Florida and ended up talking with her for a long time, just watching the numbers on the TV screen with the sound off, so I wasn't getting any punditizing and wasn't drawing conclusions about much of anything. I got off the phone, and it took a while for me to absorb it, but eventually I got the message that everything was trending toward Bush.
Seal got pissed when Heidi asked him for an open marriage with Newt?

BWAAAAA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!!!
Gingirch "won" in the sense that people know he is a joke and would lose badly to Obama and might have slightly prolonged his defeat to the unlikable and uninspiring Romneybot by having some idiots in South Carolina vote for him.
Is that what you mean?
it looks even with 1% reporting.
This is a really dumb thing to say.
I voted for Romney, so he won't get shut out.
This is a really dumb thing to say.
I dunno, hat guy, do you have any reason to believe that the precincts polled so aren't roughly representative of SC Republican primary voters? These very early counts are often surprisingly accurate, particularly in primaries where everyone voting is from one party.
What does it say about you, Andy, that you took the time to point it out?
Seal got pissed when Heidi asked him for an open marriage with Newt?
MORE SHOCKING NEWS: Heidi Klum and Seal are getting divorced!
I've vicariously watched endless seasons of her show. She always struck me as insufferably smug and mean-spirited. I don't know how those traits play in a marriage. She is still drop dead gorgeous though.
Chucky T of MSNBC reports the areas of SC Newt had to win he's winning by (20) pts. and the areas mittens had to win he's breaking even.
You do the math ...
Well, this will test Newt. It's precisely the sort of thing that gets his mouth running ahead of his sense. So if he doesn't blow himself up over this, perhaps he has a chance.
I doubt it, though. He will do something foolish...he always does and he won't have the media to cover for him, either.
They are relying heavily on exit polls - what could go wrong with that?
Yuck it up while you can Crack.
uh oh:
"So far, the Mormon issue hasn't been addressed. But an early exit poll found 57 percent saying it’s very important that a candidate share their religious beliefs - and 46% of those voters went for Newt. Romney got 22%. For non-Christianists, in contrast, Romney won by 43 to 29 percent. If you build a political party on sectarian foundations, as the current GOP has been, then you won't be able to have a Mormon nominee. This was always going to be an issue in the South - and it looks as if we now have proof."
It's too early to draw any firm conclusions about how big a problem Mitt's Mormonism is, but since evangelical Christians are some of the most close-minded bigoted people around, I suspect Mittens is in trouble with them.
If it's at all close, it won't be much of a win for Newt.
A blowout and, yeah, he's the flavor of the fortnight.
PS Yeah, MSLSD is known for its objective, accurate reporting.
Newt's not known for being especially gracious, but I hope in his speech he remembers to thank Juan Williams and John King.
Gingrich crushed Romney in the upstate areas of SC, and beat him by a little in the more moderate downstate areas.
The margin appears to be 10%. Last week, the "experts" had the race even, possibly Gingrich winning by two percent.
Looks like Newt got a John King bounce. And Mitt better have some answers about Bain and his tax returns pretty damn quick.
How can Heidi and Seal get divorced? Tom and Giselle are about to move into the neighborhood, into their 20,000-square-foot "eco-mansion"!
Of course, unless about 40 people are going to be living in that monstrosity, it's not eco-friendly.
As you all know, I will not vote for GOP in 2012. I was hoping to undo my mistake in 2008, when I voted for Obama.
I wanted Romney to be the nominee.
The GOP loves people like Newt who abuse women.
I am sorry but I will not vote for Newt. Never. Ever.
I will vote for Obama again.
On Yahoo they are headlining an ABC projection of a Newt victory.
Is there really enough reliable historical data to extrapolate from only 1-2% reporting?
Or did they do exit polling? (Remember how accurate that was in 2000?)
Mitt did not exactly catch fire here though.
If I were a Republican, I'd be looking for a candidate that was too scared to release his tax returns and too scared to tell people that.
Is there anyone I can vote for?
Heh. Those close-minded evangelical Protestants voted for the the Catholic ahead of the Mormon. The other Catholic and the lunatic are fighting it for third.

Point made. Game, set, match.

PS, the Catholic Church has done more for those afflicted with AIDS than any government agency or group this stupid little kid supports.
No one seems to be answering whether I'm allowed to hate people that hate the gays.

REALLY?
Since the future mostly consists of showing up, I can't wait to see how all these gays repopulate.
Best of luck with that.
Get a life, Andy. Gayness stopped being interesting to me in about 1986.
There's always Barack Hussein Obama. He's too scared to release his academic transcripts and medical records.
This is only slightly less dumb than Romney's idiot son saying Romney could release his tax returns after Obama released his birth certificate (after Obama had already released his birth certificate).
Try to raise your game conservatives, this is embarrassing.
Just how stupid is it to hate someone on the net you don't really know. Passive aggressiveness to the nth degree.
Chill!
Andy, the fountainhead of bigotry is ignorance. You seem to know little or nothing about evangelical Christians other than your assumptions of bigotry via gay hatred. There are certainly some people who call themselves evangelical who spew garbage about homosexuality, but most respect the word of the Bible.
The bible includes this:
Judge not, that ye be not judged.
For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.
I am not a Christian, Andy, but I know wisdom when I see it. I hope you will see some of the wisdom in this passage.
The not that bright, easily misled college boy "knows" that "evangelical Christians" are "bigots" and "closed minded"
If he "knew" that they're closed-minded he'd be marginally less non-bright. What he actually claims to know is that they're "close-minded", whatever that means.

You are complaining about my opinion. You are so sad. The mind reels at what a terrible, pathetic life you must have.
Mormonism was one reason Romney lost South Carolina.

Actually, Althouse, it's five more years of Obama.
Perhaps the Democrats will also take the House and Senate and actually have to govern.
Who am I kidding. They will find someone else to blame if that happens.

It's hilarious and sad that you are calling others bigots. Is it because you are so stupid that you don't see the irony? Do you know what irony is?
Probably not.

Or maybe it's just Democrats showing up to vote for Newt and screw things up.
By the way, I love how everyone is denying that Christians hate the gays. It used to be ok to hate the gays. No one was ashamed to say bad things about the fags. Now fewer and fewer people hate the gays, and even among the Christians and their supporters, they are afraid to admit it. It's cute seeing you all fall over yourselves to deny that there is any gay hating going on.
Hating the gays is quickly becoming a badge of shame. Too bad for the Christian gay-haters.

You know. In retrospect, you have to give it to Newt for the Bain movie. Although it seriously ticked off a lot of conservatives, it did remind our lefty press that they had reasons to not like Romney. Throw in the media's interest in an extended campaign, and they suddenly had a lot of reasons to lighten up on Newt and toughen up on Romney, which they did.

I'm projecting 4 more years of Obama.
Got that right, if Romney doesn't win the nomination. And even then...
That was an awfully bitchy speech by Romney.
I guess he is so catty because exit polls say that South Carolina voters think that it is Gingrich who is "more electable."
So, since Newt is now the most electable candidate, will you Romney-bots commit to vote for him and to stop attacking him? Or are you going to let Obama win?
Ann Althouse said...

No. really. I'm willing to take your money. Wanna bet?
It must be hard for the few sane Republicans left in the party to deal with Gingrich. On the one hand, they realize what a disaster he would be against Obama so they want to say all the mean things they are thinking so he doesn't get the nomination. But they also don't want to alienate all the idiots in the party that genuinely like Gingrich. But if they don't say what how absurd Gingrich is and what a farce it would be if he is nominated, then he might actually beat Romney!
What to do? Hold off on your attacks on him and hope he loses to Romney or open up both barrels on Gingrich and hope Romney doesn't lose?
I can tell you, the rubes here don't like it when you call their preferred candidate a joke.
@ American Politico
You're conservative and voting for Obama. I can understand some personal distaste/ disappointment in a 'conservative' candidate that leads you not to vote for him. But why vote for the anti-conservative?

South Carolina says fuck you to ABC News.
But if they don't say what how absurd Gingrich is and what a farce it would be if he is nominated,

This might be following the Sarah Palin arc with Newtie.
Sarah Palin became rabidly popular with the far right for throwing red meat at them and doing personal jibes at "media people, elites, etc.)
Then Miss Sarah drove away the swing voters like skunk fragrance.
While she was mulling a run against Obama..polls soon closed the door for her as the Right Wing Goddess was polling 26 points behind Obama. The lowest numbers of any possible Republican candidate. The closest was Rick Santorum at 11 points behind.
************
Newt is showing a similar pattern - beloved by the Fundies and less educated - for red meat tossing acting like Triumph the Insult Dog. But becoming absolutely reviled by independents.
He has the highest voter negatives out there after Palin quit.
24% more see him as having more negatives than positives..Santorum is also reviled by people in the middle..but is only at minus 4% differential between postively viewed vs. negatively viewed.
On the other hand - Obama is +5% more positive than negative, in the general election population. Romney at +7%, Ron Paul at +2%.
The ones I know (incl someone who has been to every home game (except 3) for thirty years) only blame the school.
Especially after the embarrassing way Paterno was tossed out.

Just watched the replay of the Newt speech. Very smart to be magnaminous in victory. That was the one really sour note from prior Romney victory speeches - taking shots at the losers.
On the other hand, there were some classic Newt lines. The campaign was "very humbling and very sobering. . ." I laughed at the TV at that line. And then there was this one: "It's not that I am a good debater. It is that I articulate the deepest felt values of the American people." Imagine how Newt might have described himself if the campaign hadn't been "very humbling?"
That said, it was a very solid speech. I'll support the man if he's the nominee.
Andy does seem a little "off" tonight. He's way too contrived sounding.
"AP is a sham."
What was your first clue? ;)
No tears here for Paterno, tears for the raped kids he didn't report.
Now back to Gingrich.
That said, it was a very solid speech. I'll support the man if he's the nominee.
As will most Republicans, even if they say otherwise.
Newt carries plenty of personal baggage, but in the end, if he can soundly debate Obama on policy, that is what the American people will ultimately care about.
Hell, we had a president get blown in the Oval Office by a woman who wasnt his wife, and he still left office as a very popular president. Lets not pretend that some news from Newt's ex-wife is going to be at the forefront of voters if Gingrich's name is on the ballot.
That was the one really sour note from prior Romney victory speeches - taking shots at the losers
And Romney was bitchy tonight too in defeat. He got all pissy about Gingrich, while Newt had nothing but nice things to say about Romney.
Don't piss on my leg and say it's raining claiming that Romney is a nice guy just because he comes across as warm and fuzzy milquetoast. DBQ is on to something (on the other thread) with the comment that Romney "is a secret asshole.....like Obama. At least with Newt there is no secret :-)" Certainly the establishment Romney campaign insiders have done enough spewing sh*t about other Republicans to the MSM.
"Andy does seem a little "off" tonight."
Tonight?
And Romney was bitchy tonight too in defeat. He got all pissy about Gingrich, while Newt had nothing but nice things to say about Romney.
He's bitchy because he knows this primary is now going until Super Tuesday, at the very least. He was hoping a win tonight would lead him to winning in Florida and a concession from Newt. Now, with Newt winning handily in SC, even if Romney wins Florida, Newt wont drop out. Its extra time and money that Romney now has to spend that he didnt figure on spending.
Romney's message now has to change as well. Instead of just taking on Obama head-on, like he has been doing in this entire primary, he now has to challenge Newt, and that appears to be something he is uncomfortable in doing.
The Republican Party seems a little off tonight.
wv: whoomp
Don't piss on my leg and say it's raining claiming that Romney is a nice guy just because he comes across as warm and fuzzy milquetoast.
I've not heard a Romney supporter describe him as warm and fuzzy milquetoast. Not one. That's what his critics say. We say he is tough, highly competent, and willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
I'll get behind Newt, as I said, but let's face it. His attacks on Bain over the pain that layoffs cause families tell suggest he may not have the stomach to cut Washington the way it needs to be. I've not doubt Romney would make those tough decisions. He's already proven he can.
"I don't understand the appeal of Gingrich except among racist Republicans who want to see him call Obama the "foodstamp President" to his face.

Be glad to. *You* are the racist, dummy, because you assume everybody on food stamps is black (or minority).
Thank you South Carolina!
An Obot.
Andy's over the top, Gary. But look at the percentage of South Carolinians voting for Gingrich who said that religion was a primary factor in their decision, and then I think you might lose the presumptions.
Anyone denying the appeal of a non-Mormon opponent among evangelical voters is delusional.
Anyone stupid enough to refuse the possibility that Gingrich changed his religious affiliation for political reasons is also blind.
Andy's attitude is no reason to pretend that the Republicans, not just the supposed "elites" among them, aren't having some serious issues. Don't let his insignificant little episodes of shortsightedness fuel some major shortsightedness, in a different direction, of your own.
AndyR. The close minded bigoted evangelicals voted the adulterer, serial divorcer, two to one against the straight arrows. Your stereotyping is both wrong and tiresome.
The thing that bothers me about Andy R. is that, even though he's an insufferable douche-bag around here, he's actually pretty cute, so it's hard to totally hate him.
Andy could do a lot about his initial likability by nixing the half-cocked cap, but he seems steadfast in his desire to not only be an insufferable douche-bag, but to look like one as well.
So I decided to straighten the hat myself... Andy, feel free to use this altered photograph as your new avatar... I guarantee it will do wonders for your image!

Hey Andy, can you explain why calling Barack Obama the "Foodstamp President" is racist?
Afterwords, can you explain why only liberals seem to pick up on all these racist dogwhistles and codewords?
Andy if nothing else, some of Althouse's conservatives truly care about your well-being.
ok, that may be a stretch. Suffice it to say they "care" about you more than Gingrich winning SC.
USA USA USA
btw, re: Nikki Haley, she is so not liked some SC conservatives want to recall her. :D
As to the Gingrich thing... Man, the South is really good at fucking up this country...
Lol. "Bigot!" "Racist!" ;-)
"Man, the South is really good at fucking up this country..."
The South put Obama in the Oval Office?
Who knew?

Obama will win 42 states.

I guess that is why people are fleeing northern blue states and moving to the south.

I can't. But Lee Atwater sure could.
Because they're not things that we pick up on, but sound out of place, we ask why someone would make those statements.
Again, Lee Atwater's (a South Carolinian) explanation provides the rest of us with a nice little guidebook for why Republicans sometimes say things in certain environments with meaning that seems symbolic, but unclear.
Like the Trent Lott comment about Strom Thurmond, for instance. But more subtly.
"About a month ago some of it's comments were deleted and now it is totally off the rails."
Too bad. Even though I disagreed with her more often than not, she at least used to be readable. Now I can just add her to my relatively short list of scrollbys.

Of course not.
It is simply meant to distract from the fact that there are more people on food stamps than at any other point in American history.
Fuck all liberals and they can all bloody well to fucking hell.

Yes!
Trent Lott saying nice things at a birthday celebration for Strom is out of place!
You never miss an opportunity to go full idiot.
"What do you take the phase to mean?"
That he has presided over the country at a time when more Americans than ever are on food stamps. A fairly common rhetorical device in American politics. To infer anything racist out of that says more about the one inferring.
What do you take it to mean?
I must apologize. I had a comment that called Andy a name. Not a nice one.
But at least it had the word "hat" in it.
a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community
hmm, extraneous as in strange/alien? maybe :D
One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument.
Back in 2003/2004 I enjoyed playin' the devil's advocate.

The simple truth is I enjoy this site mainly because it's 80/20 die-hard conservatives.

"Nice things" like how the country would have been much better off had a segregationist won an election on the "states' rights" ticket! LOl!
Yeah. That's a hell of a nice thing to say about someone! That he's so nice that implementing all those segregationist policies would have been A-Ok!
This sort of historically ignorant idiocy that "Jay" typically exhibits is why the Republican party is splintering itself into three or four parts.
Keep it up, man!

And the reason for that is what?
Fact check: Gingrich's faulty food-stamp claim
And under Obama, the increase so far has been 14.2 million. To be exact, the program has so far grown by 444,574 fewer recipients during Obama's time in office than during Bush's.
*GIGGLE*
The silly lies Jay must tell himself!
Ritmo's solution to America's racial divide is to increase the tensions. Admit it you racial hustler, you want American to burn to the ground as revenge for slavery.

Trent Lott said no such thing.
Keep beclowning.
garage is *GIGGLING* about 14 million new food stamp recipients because he found a way to manipulate the numbers in a way that somehow makes Obama look good?
You leftists are fucking insane.
That he's so nice that implementing all those segregationist policies would have been A-Ok!
I think you should go on pretending that is what Trent Lott said.
Really. You should.
Don't give up, 36sf. You're talking to a crowd that says that praising a segregationist electoral win by saying that it have been great for the country, is just a way to wish a guy a Happy Birthday!
Oh please, I've had comments deleted by flaming radicals a lot more extreme than Althouse/Meade. At my first political forum there were (3) day time out periods when posting was halted 'cause the discussion got so heated/intense.
This blog is child's play by comparison.

Fact check: Gingrich's faulty food-stamp claim
Fact:
There are now a record number of Americans receiving food stamps, with about 46 million participants.
Of course you and your silly ilk "fact check" things and reveal yourselfs to be abject idiots.
Again, you beclown yourself here every day, but you'll be back tomorrow.
Ritmo, I didn't ask for Lee Atwater's opinion. Don't know it and don't care to. If you can't explain it without resorting to tiresome verbal calisthenics, you're probably reading more into it and could use some self-reflection rather than finger-pointing.
"Because they're not things that we pick up on, but sound out of place, we ask why someone would make those statements."
You should ask why they sound out of place. This is getting to the heart of the racism at the core of almost every liberal I know or encounter.
Since you're trying to distract by bringing up the silly Trent Lott castigation, allow me to do the same. Many liberals liked to refer to Bill Clinton as America's first Black President. This is somehow acceptable in liberal circles, yet it is fundamentally no different than any perceived racism in Gingrich's remark. In fact, it is an overtly condescending and racist statement and point of view to hold.
One must infer racism in Gingrich's remark, however the overt racial statements and philosophies of liberals in this country are not only rationalized, but self-congratualted in liberal circles.
Fuck all liberals and they can all bloody well to fucking hell.
Indeed as Alex is an excellent example of why this site is enjoyable. Peeps get so disturbed they leave out words in their childish diatribe!
shiloh - I'm glad to be so entertaining to you. Do you think you pwn me now fucktard?

Copy. I guess the whole family values mantra doesn't really mean that much when it comes right down to it.
Happy Birthday!
BTW, did I ever tell you how great the country would have been had you won your segregationist bid for the presidency? Because that's just the kind of thing I do on a guy's birthday!
Awww shucks!
"When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We’re proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over the years, either."
But "Jay" believes that there's a subtle, jovial and innocent level of interpretation in there that those racist, mean Democrats just aren't getting!
The Democrats must have forced Thurmond's resignation!
""Nice things" like how the country would have been much better off had a segregationist won an election on the "states' rights" ticket! LOl!"
Nonsense. Lott said nothing of the sort.
Go ahead and put his quote up and let's break this down.
Your move.
Look the leftist trolls won't be satisfied until they raise your blood pressure to life threatening levels. That is their goal - don't let them win.
Because they're not things that we pick up on, but sound out of place, we ask why someone would make those statements.
But having a former KKK Grand Wizard in the Democratic party = A, OK!
But having your political mentor be J. William Fulbright (J. William Fullbright was honored by President Clinton with the Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in 1993 and publicly praising him = A, OK!
Just got home from the Symphony. They did Beethoven's #3 . He called it The Eroica as an anthem to great men like his former hero Napoleon who inspired him.
Procounsel Napoleon had just declared himself Emperor and lost his place on Beethoven's title page when he finished the tribute in 1805.
It was played on the night they drove old Romney down.
The conductor's arms and baton were doing a crazy Gingrich like attack on the music until I thought he would put out his eye. But that's how the greatest symphony ever written gets played.
So I missed the fun. A brief read through of the comments sounds like Genghis Khan came through here and took the women and children.
Maybe Romney and ABC can run the ex-wife's story accompanying the "Uncoordinated but very obedient" PAC's Iowa half truths 24/7 on Florida TV starting tonight until the next vote.
But the Honeybadger Gingrich don't care any more than Romney cares about working class white Florida voters that Newt is connects so well with using his natural comfort level with the lower classes.
I know for a fact that Althouse hates these leftie trolls, but won't say so outloud. She is letting them hang themselves.
"And the reason for that is what?"
Socratic method is only effective if you can play it without being too vague. Be more specific in the information you're requesting.
But "Jay" believes that there's a subtle, jovial and innocent level of interpretation in there that those racist, mean Democrats just aren't getting!
Actually, there is.
But pretending you care about "segregation" or "race" is silly and obscene.
And under Obama, the increase so far has been 14.2 million. To be exact, the program has so far grown by 444,574 fewer recipients during Obama's time in office than during Bush's.
*GIGGLE*
Yeah, hilarious! So what you're saying is that we've added about as many food stamp beneficiaries in O's 3 years in office as we did in Bush's 8 years.
Heckuva job, Barry.

From the thread below, Writ Small said...
I just got back from Andrew Sullivan's blog. To say his is giddy would be an understatement.
Here's the Daily Kos reaction:
...Newt isn't running for President. He's running for the nomination. And he is unlikely to have any other mode. It's the best of all worlds for us -- someone who can hijack the GOP nominating contest from their most electable general election possibility (Romney), and run a general election the same way Michelle Bachmann would...
The happiest people tonight are Newt's supporters. Second place is a toss-up between the Democrats and the Media.
Here, here. GMay. I appreciate your interest in an in-depth discussion on what exactly racism is, as well. I mean, it's better than a Clintonian discussion of what the meaning of the word "is", is, now, isn't it?
Or "is" it?
Anyway, we know how much you guys like short, terse explanations of everything. So I'll try to keep my response shorter than yours. Because you see, the outright, historical outbursts (Lott, Buckley) and open tactics (Atwater) that you call "distractions", we see as a pattern. They do seem to raise their ugly head at very regular and inopportune moments, wouldn't you say?
Or do you prefer a more philosophical approach to the matter?

Figure it out.
Ahhh, I'm too slow in posting. Looks like you posted the quote Ritmo. Sorry about that, and thank you.
Now, which do you propose - that you must infer racism from
Lott's statement, or that it is an overtly racist?
I simply asking why so many are on food stamps to warrant the phase "Food Stamp President"
Because the economy is in shambles because of Obama's horrific policies following a terrible worldwide credit crunch.
But now your remedial question allotment is exceeded, so hurry along.

I'm convinced the only stress-free way to experience this comment section is to consume so much alcohol as to pickle one's liver.
"I guess the whole family values mantra doesn't really mean that much when it comes right down to it."
In keeping with the juvenile nature of a comment like this - I guess this means you feel the left doesn't feel family is important.
Gotcha. Another scrollby.
Because you see, the outright, historical outbursts (Lott, Buckley) and open tactics (Atwater) that you call "distractions", we see as a pattern
Mind you, keeping a former KKK Grand Wizard as a member of the Senate for over 40 years isn't a pattern.
Its a unicorn!
There is no race/demography problem in the GOP!
There is a food-stamp problem!
Blacks would really vote for the GOP if they only knew better (not that it's condescending or anything to imply that blacks can't determine their own interests or anything). It's everyone else who has "brainwashed" them to think otherwise.
But clearly this philosophy, endorsed by the GOP, is not racist. Clearly.
I do think Gingrich's "food stamp President" line is pure red meat for the un-thinking GOP crowd. It's not as if Barry destroyed millions of jobs causing people to go on food stamps right? I mean someone prove a casual link between Obama and food stamp increase.
Ritmo - why are 2/3 of black men in jail or going to be at some point in their lives? Is it racist to point out facts?
Now, which do you propose - that you must infer racism from
Lott's statement, or that it is an overtly racist?
I inferred it and the GOP leadership inferred it.
But maybe the fact that they forced him out was just a plain ole matter of "elitism".
Whatever. Lol.

Is that so? Bureau of Labor Statistics shows it around 8%.
Ritmo - why are 2/3 of black men in jail or going to be at some point in their lives? Is it racist to point out facts?
Not yet.
But I'm sure someone with whom you're politically allied will come up with an explanation for that that sure as hell will sound racist.
Race and crime in the USA
A United States Department of Justice report which surveyed homicide statistics between 1974 and 2004 stated that of the crimes surveyed, 52.2% of the offenders were Black, 45.8% were White, and 2% were Other Races.
Blacks are 10% of the population, but commit 52% of murders over 30 year period. Facts are facts, Ritmo.
36f
2006, not 2008.
carry on
Blacks are 10% of the population, but commit 52% of murders over 30 year period. Facts are facts, Ritmo.
And explanations (or the lack thereof) are subject to interpretation.
I can see why you offer none.
"Or do you prefer a more philosophical approach to the matter?"
I would prefer you discuss in good faith, but I know you well enough that that's unlikely.
I have, as usual, addressed each and every point you have made, both substantive and disingenuous, and you have chosen to ignore and obfuscate while you push the same old arguments I just rebutted.
Some things haven't changed here at Althouse.
But I'll toss you an olive branch Ritmo. If you wish, I will gladly engage you on the topic, seriously and sincerely.
Your move.
Jan. 2007 unemployment 4.6%.
