At the Still-Green Café...
... you've got plenty of time, to hang out here and talk.
And while you're at it, if you've got any shopping to do, please send me some Christmas love by using the Althouse portal to Amazon.

I think this story is newsworthy.
State law bars public officials from receiving anything of value for free because of their position. Separately, the state's judicial ethics code prevents judges from accepting gifts from those who are likely to appear before them.
Since the firm started representing Gableman in the ethics case in July 2008, Gableman has participated in nine cases in which the court voted on substantive issues involving Michael Best clients. Gableman ruled in those clients' favor in five of those cases - more than any other justice.
How is this guy still on the bench?
Very nice pic, Madame.
And you know we all send you love every day by coming here.
nice one. i went via AA for Amazon this a.m. Let me know if you get the credit. You deserve it for the service you do for all thinking Americans.
On a day of semi-winter
When the snow melts into soil
There's a sense of sweet suspension
Like a take five from hard toil.
Thanks, fleetusa.
@edutcher Note the full list here.
last night went to Amazon to order a coffee maker, $107. Realized I had forgotten to go thru the AA Amazon portal. Exited and went back thru the AA portal and in just that time they had sold out. Now it is $129 and in back order. I'll get it brick and mortar.
Last night had to buy a dishwasher. My wife liked a GE so I guided her to a Kitchenaid. Told the salesman I wouldn't give Jeffery Imelt a dime of my money if I didn't have to. I love not buying GE products. It makes me feel good.
That stream is probably polluted.
Drinking a Caribou Spicy Milk Chocolate Mocha (I get an extra hot of espresso). It is seasoned with a mix of spices: ancho and seranno chili peppers, cardamom and cinnamon.
I believe the Aztecs used to combine chili peppers with cocoa. It is so good it makes me want to rip someones heart out of their body and throw them down the pyramid stairs.
Nice shot. I think I see a bird on a branch on the left side of the creek, downstream maybe halfway.
The new art museum here is in Travel+Leisure as a hottest destination of 2012.
So, what's the general opinion about double-dipping, where public sector employees start drawing retirement benefits while getting a paycheck for another government job?
Not as bad as "retiring," and going back to work in the very same job!
I think going back to work for the same government ought to be prohibited.
And if I had my way, you could retire from a lower level of government and go to work for a higher one, but not the other way around.
(The idea being that the local government personnel live closer to reality than the State, and the State's than the the Feds.)
Here's a current events quiz everyone can take. I'm sure Althousians will score much higher than the average of 3!

I also love spicy cocoa.
The first time my husband and I met up, it was for coffee. But he wasn't a coffee drinker, so he said, "I'll have the same." This was strange because I'd ordered a large Mexican Mocha (spicy mocha) with an extra shot of espresso. I drank all of mine. He pretended at his. When it was time to go, his full cup made a loud "Thunk!" in the trash, and I laughed.
He acted a lot like Bill Murray does with Sigourney Weaver in Ghostbusters. (But very unlike that character generally.)
I married him a few weeks later, so maybe that's a possible strategy for single men.
Speakin' of green, my humble little start up that recovers revenues for hospitals secured contracts this week with six new hospitals, all managed by the same firm...working on their other 16 through the end of year.
Professor, I bought a couple gift books through your portal the other day. I'm sure it won't amount to much, but as I said...humble new start up. Merry Christmas.

Or not. ;-)
Or not. ;-)
Heh. True. I still like the idea of single men running around acting like Bill Murray though.
That photo. Call theDNR!
I scored a 3 on that oreilly quiz.
They do green chili cocoa in New Mexico and I once saw habenero hot fudge topping at our local store. I didn't buy any though, because 8-12 oz was about $14.

Last night our four year old offered: "God, thank you for this day. Please help the dinosaurs to not exist anymore. Send a rock to crash into the Earth and kill the dinosaurs. Then let people evolve on it. Amen."
I share his happiness that dinosaurs aren't running around today, so I can see the attraction of just making sure.

Really?
My first Murry movie was he, as Hunter S. Thompson...back in High School-
Not sure how that is flattering-
Happy Hanukkah!
I just posted some decent music - including a great Gospel tune for those of you who are adamant on the subject - but Jamie Cullum's Not Included (Because He's A Wanker)
47) Why does the left hate free speech? Because they don’t know how to talk about the substantive merits when they are challenged. Having submerged themselves in disciplining each other by denouncing any heretics in their midst, they find themselves overwhelmed and outnumbered in America, where there is vibrant debate about all sorts of things they don’t know how to begin to talk about. They resort to stomping their feet and shouting “shut up”… when they aren’t prissily imploring everyone to be “civil.” — Ann Althouse
