"... it should not be entered into lightly."

That doesn't mean you shouldn't enter into it heavily.

If being an attorney is something you really want to do, then it is a good investment. If being an attorney is something you think is a good status position, then you shouldn't. Many of the latter end up hating being an attorney and move on..then law school was a horrible investment.

Of course this advice will be completely ignored and law school applications will just keep on growing at a stratospheric rate. Law school is absurdly popular, no matter how dim the payoff may be, because it's easy: no math, no science, no computers.

Back in the late 60s, when I took Latin American Political Systems at the University of Alabama, I remember being taught that any country that produces more lawyers than engineers is going to be an economic and social basket case. At that time this was true of every Latin American country. I fear it is becoming true of us now, if it is not already true.

College, generally, is a very large investment of which the same can be said.

Which is why a college education is not a right, contrary to the Lefties.

Some people will always be better carpenters than accountants.
