"Sarah Palin has been quiet recently. Surprisingly quiet."

"Ms. Palin... is reportedly just days away from deciding whether to run for president."
In the meantime, her Twitter feed and Facebook page have gone silent for the last 10 days. Her Web site has not been updated recently. And Ms. Palin has not appeared on Fox News for a week, since before the last Republican presidential debate.
And?

A day late and a dollar short. Too late to start now because of the time constraints and the lead time to organize a campaign. I like her, its a shame she waited too long.

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

She is molting.

Unless she plans to run third party, then she has not got a strategy that makes sense.

Rose म्हणाले...

She's been in since Day One - she has been the one jousting with Obama all along - and has successfully unseated him in every round.

She's played this to perfection - letting the field meltdown - this will indeed be a battle of titans.

GAME ON!

I think she had to study for her con-law final.

That article was from Sept. 27. There is much more recent tea leaves for Palin watchers (like me to read). She's going to run (IMHO).

What with all of the intra-party CRAP that has been tossed around lately by the camps of Romney, Bachmann, Santorum, and now Cain, rather than these people properly directingly their fire at Obama, where it belongs, it is all too obvious that Republicans have not learned a damn thing.

With most people in the Republican Party having their heads up their asses, Palin might very well say "To hell with all of you. I don't need it."

rcocean म्हणाले...

The only conservative that can stop Romney is Palin and that's only if all the other "conservatives" drop out and rally around her.

Fat chance.

Look for conservatives to act stupidly, as always. They'll split their vote and allow Mittens to roll to victory.

Fred4Pres म्हणाले...

I doubt she is running, but if she is I doubt she will win. We will see. I like her a lot more than Christie. But I like Cain more.

Palin is very good at using well-coined soundbites to pick apart the Dem's dumb policies [i.e death panels] but she is not a good candidate.

David म्हणाले...

Molting is a possibility.

rcocean म्हणाले...

I think we need to stop all this primary nonsense, and just rally around someone with an (R) after their name.

And we also need to stop talking about Social issues, or anything else except the war, "the war on terror" is the only thing that matters. Oops, that was the script from 2004. Correction: the only thing that matters is the economy.

We need a businessman in the White house, he'll fix everything. 'Cause running a business is just like being President.

And?

Gov. Christie talked about why he is staying Governor today.

I thought of Palin as he was saying it.

Cheney is right when he raises the question of her judgement, especially when one considers the manner in which her resignation speech seemed so flawed at the time.

Will selective liberal editing make it better so Palin can change the minds of the millions of people who don't like her?

gadfly म्हणाले...

To all the Palin doubters out there - here is why she wins - Name Recognition!

Lauderdale Vet म्हणाले...

I think she stayed out of the initial fracas to see how well Perry would do.

He hasn't done so well.

rcocean म्हणाले...

"Cheney is right when he raises the question of her judgement"

I always admire Cheney. Anyone who was a key member of the successful Ford and Bush I administrations, a friend of Scooter Libby, and a proponent of the Iraq war, Amnesty, bombing Iran, and Gay marriage is a man of sound judgement.

I really hope she runs, and if she does, I'll be behind her 100%.

This whole "it's too late" meme is ridiculous. It's not too late.

That doesn't mean her candidacy isn't a long shot; it might be. It's just not going to be because she waited this long to declare.

Ha, just reading about Virginia Woolf's men who "talk" and women who are often silent. "Woolf, however, infuses this narrative space with a new psychic life, a rhetoric of silence, and the women in her novels are often present in this narrative sapce we are learning to read, refining our notion of Woolf's characteristic lexicon of silence of gaps, gulfs, pauses, fissures, cracks, and interludes."

2/3rds of Republicans in a recent poll don't want her to run.

No organization, and the last three years of reality shows and punditry shows nothing that bolsters her reputation save as a deliverer of scripted one-liners.

It would be worth it to see New Queen Bachmann against Old Queen Palin..catfight!! "I'm the Goddess of older conservative white men!" "No, I am!"

Cain will be on the ticket, and I think the top of it. Palin will not run. Love her, but she has been pretty well made unelectable by the liberal press and entertainment profession. She did an excellent job of bringing out their misogyny, elitism and raw partisanship, while damaging Obama and softening the target.

In the next week:

1) Palin has an event with Glenn Beck in a 12,000 seat arena.

2) She will speak at an event at Liberty University broadcast to more than 1,000 churches. Audience estimate 100-500,000.

3) She will be the headline speaker at the largest ideas conference in Asia where she will address Asian and world elite. Other speakers featured below her include ex Labor PM Gordon Brown, ex-Harvard President and Clinton and Obama adviser Larry Summers. Expect a foundational speech from her.

World Knowledge Forum

In the complicated and multilayered Palin organization well informed rumor has it that the core organization is in full mobilization. Other layers, of course, have been mobilized for moths.

She is one announcement or even hint away from a media storm.

Are we really going to go with Romney of all people? The MassCare guy who couldn't beat McCain. Over Perry? Really?

We have got to stop picking candidates because it's their "turn". We have been down this way before and it's never pretty.

John henry म्हणाले...

Why "Ms" Palin?

Isn't normal style to refer to a former pol by their former title?

Wouldn't proper style be "Governor" Palin?

I hope she jumps in. Palin with Paul for VP would be a great combination.

Cain would make a good VP too.

Or even a good Prez if Gov Palin stays out.

Paddy O म्हणाले...

The assumption that she is only a sound bite provider or has been made unelectable is, I think, wrong.

For instance, before her silence she had a great speech on shared assumptions that cross political boundaries.

From a New York Times article about the speech:

She made three interlocking points. First, that the United States is now governed by a “permanent political class,” drawn from both parties, that is increasingly cut off from the concerns of regular people.

Second, that these Republicans and Democrats have allied with big business to mutual advantage to create what she called “corporate crony capitalism.”

Third, that the real political divide in the United States may no longer be between friends and foes of Big Government, but between friends and foes of vast, remote, unaccountable institutions (both public and private).

This speaks to an approach that could bring in Tea Party folks with those protesting at Wall St. And when I posted the article, I got very curious (to them and to me) agreement from strong Palin-haters.

I think she could come onto the scene and by not playing the ol'
'this or that' position game that characterizes every other politician, but by entirely re-framing the whole political conversation shock a lot of people into being supporters.

She was, after all, one of the key players in blowing apart the assumptions of ObamaCare. She took a whole lot of flack for her death-panels comments. By staying her course, and making substantive responses, she put a then ascendent Obama on the defensive. And he never has recovered.

No other candidate on the Republican primary stage has had even a sliver of the influence on the national debates that Sarah Palin has had. She comes to politics with a unique perspective that shakes apart the assumed narratives.

That's not to say I'd definitely vote for her, only to say that she's a game changer and maybe that's what we need.

#1: Palin is not a "conservative", and neither are most of you; and

#2: Please, Please, Please nominate Palin!!!

Remember, she quit her job as Governor because it was too hard...she will not do the homework required to win the Presidency, much less the nomination.

Ask yourselves, why won't the real republican heavy weights (Jeb Bush, Mitch Daniels, Christie, etc)get into the race?

robear म्हणाले...

I understand that once a candidate declares, the costs of maintaining the campaign are 1,000,000/day - Bachman is running out of cash and donors - Palin isn't spending, yet...

lgv म्हणाले...

And?

You ask.

Answer: And silence can be a wonderful thing.

Since she has nothing profound to say anyway, I'd rather not hear from her.

She's being silent because the world has found out about her love of black men, infidelity and that she isn't Trig's mother. Just kidding.

As I predicted, once the outside world (outside of Texas) got to know Rick Perry, the love fest with diminish. If he would just resign to focus more on his run, I would be so much happier.

Christopher in MA म्हणाले...

"Remember, she quit her job as governor because it was too hard."

Of course, machine, saying that reveals you as nothing more than an ignorant, lying partisan hack, but I'll play along for a couple of rounds:

"Palin is not a conservative and neither are most of you."

No, she isn't, not strictly. But even a rock-ribbed right-winger like me can appreciate her 'deviations' and still consider her as a candidate, unlike the Democrat party, where even hinting that you think a fetus might, possibly, somehow, at the very least, have a right to live gets you expelled as a heretic.

"Ask yourselves, why won't the real Republican heavyweights get into the race?"

Jeb is radioactive because of his last name, simple as that. Christie promised the people of NJ that he would finish the job he was elected to do (and don't pretend you sleazebags wouldn't slap the "quitter" label on him if he did run). Mitch "McCain" Daniels is an accomodationist who is too much of a "gentleman" to land a solid punch in the SCOAMF's face.

Nope. She is not. She is a liberal. Lbertarian if you prefer that word.

Read her book "Going Rogue", she is pretty clear in it. She doesn't come right out and say that she is not a conservative. There are too many liberals who think they are conservatives and there is no point irritating them.

But she clearly states a number of times, explicitly and implicitly that she is a liberal.

Progressives and conservatives want to use govt to tell us what we can't do and what we must do.

Liberals (A/K/A libertarians) just want govt to leave us alone.

I am proud to be a liberal. I am ashamed of folks like Alpha who have twisted the word to mean pretty much the exact opposite.

G Joubert म्हणाले...

While it's fun to speculate, it's useless, because no one really knows what she's going to do.

Probably what she's doing now, what she's probably been doing for some time, is something in the nature of a SWOT analysis. This by definition has to include an objective evaluation of her weaknesses standing in the way of her success as a candidate --and we all know or should know she has some serious ones-- and evaluation of strategies to remedy them. This probably also includes substantial polling and climbing inside the internals of the polling data.

Her strengths include the fact that she's smart, a lot smarter than her critics realize, and that she has off the charts political instincts.
