Ryan Braun: "I think I got excited, and I tried to run faster than I needed to and lost my form...."

"... I felt it coming. There's not much you can do at that point.... I've gotten a lot of trash talk today from every one of my friends who plays another sport... All of my basketball and football friends are texting me about my lack of athleticism. I take a pride in my athleticism, so I've been taking a lot of trash talk."

The video of the inside-the-park-home-run-that-wasn't is genuinely funny, and we need some laughs after the Cardinals' sweep of the Brewers. Scroll ahead to 1:00 if you're impatient.

The police-style "chalk" outlines on the field today were funny too, in the 2 spots between 3d and home where Braun fell.

Gosh I love Americans.

I really do.

In so vary many ways, what a great culture.

With a WV of "hopingo" there just has to be a way to make an Obama joke that connects to this somehow, but I just can't come up with it.

अनामित म्हणाले...

PIMF.

WV: licsily - the more Obama tries, the more he licsily.

edutcher म्हणाले...

We were at Friday's today and The Blonde saw the clip on one of the TVs and thought it was one of the weirdest things she'd ever seen.

It is so cool to see a professional make a fool of himself (loosely speaking) and come up laughing.

Not so in politics. Egos reign.

Carol_Herman म्हणाले...

Okay. At least it's not an error due to a "space bubble."

People trip.

Imagine if Bradley had tripped and fallen and she took off, flying out of her seat?

Would Tubbs have shown up and made chalk lines?

mccullough म्हणाले...

The Brewers are having a great year. This type of stuff keeps them loose for the playoffs. Braun should run in the brautwurst race at the next game

AllenS म्हणाले...

The only reason that he tripped was because of the speed bump.

Rialby म्हणाले...

Was that Cheryl Miller's brother in the stands?

Toad Trend म्हणाले...

Yeah Ryan looked very clumsy here...coming home clearly out of fuel and leaking badly he was taken out by a sniper in the upper deck...

He will be needled for this for some time...

wv - chipper

garage mahal म्हणाले...

Funny.

P.S. Bucky looking absolutely dominant on their first drive of the season. New QB looks great, and nice to see students back for another year.

Toad Trend म्हणाले...

@mccullough

LOL perfect...bring Randall Simon back too...

AllenS म्हणाले...

garage, beat me to it. The WI badgers are playing right now. Up by 7.

AND DRIVING!!

Trooper York म्हणाले...

You got to love the minor leagues. Those games are a lot of fun.

अनामित म्हणाले...

....driving against UNLV.

That's like driving against the Madison Gardening Club.

kjbe म्हणाले...

Saw it, last night and the taped pic, earlier today. I like that kid's attitude. Glad he'll be a Brewer for a long time.

Badgers are looking great. With the Packer game, the 'last channel button' is going to get a workout tonight.

garage mahal म्हणाले...

AND DRIVING!!

How would you like to be on UNLV defense right now in this heat, with that offensive line leaning on you all night. Heck, Trooper could run through those holes.

Lincolntf म्हणाले...

This is a beatdown. Good for the Badgers, all teams to need to justify their preseason rankings before I count them as for real. Now it's a matter of how UNLV, Wisconsin react. The spread is apparently 35, let's see if UNLV (no stranger to the gaming set) can cover for their faithful. Sometimes lucky bounces and second-stringers can be the difference.

DADvocate म्हणाले...

Watching pros make fails like that always gives us amateurs a "they're human too" chuckle. It's the kind of thing I would have done when I was 12 if I could have hit the ball anywhere near as well as Braun.

Conserve Liberty म्हणाले...

I'm from St. Louis.

.

Good to see a little levity after the animus earlier in the year.

And we get a little (probably fleeting) hope for the Labor Day Weekend.

Good Luck, Milwaukee!! At least Wisconsin can do baseball right.

Trooper York म्हणाले...

Wait. Milwaukee still has a team?

David म्हणाले...

Packers!
Badgers!
Is Obama scheduling this too?

William Tyroler म्हणाले...

Braun would have been out at home by 5 feet, so his pratfall saved the 3B coach - overly aggressive the entire year - from embarrassment. No reason to send Braun home with only 1 out and Fielder coming up. Braun's stumble, then, becomes mere misdirection; somewhat like the pitching over the last 30 games or so, which obscured the team's deep flaws: below-average defense and very inconsistent hitting.

Lincolntf म्हणाले...

Nice run. Nice pursuit.

The Dude म्हणाले...

Troop, they do, and, as it turns out, they have more starting pitchers than the Y*nkees. But, then again, any team with 2 starters has more than then Y*nkees.

Can your guy pitch on 24 hours rest? Just askin'...

Lincolntf म्हणाले...

That 35 is looking like an impossibility. UNLV defense is overwhelmed. Offense isn't terrible, just bad.

mccullough म्हणाले...

Trooper,

If New York were that great, the Dodgers and Giants would have never left.

Trooper York म्हणाले...

Well I don't know if the National League counts as being in the majors.

And we shall see what we shall see.

We have CC and Mariano. That should be enough.

Jeter always goes crazy when his girlfriend dumps him. We run three years in a row after Mariah Carey took her smelly twat off into the sunset. Just sayn'

Trooper York म्हणाले...

Trooper,

If New York were that great, the Dodgers and Giants would have never left.

The Dodgers left because they couldn't get the space that the Nets got now for a staduim. And Horace Stoneham was a drunk who did whatever O'Malley told him to do. The National league sucked in New York. That's why the Yankees almost always beat them like a rented mule.

The Mets continue the sucking tradition with the Wilponzies.

Face it. The National League is the Wisconsin of sports leagues. So to speak.

अनामित म्हणाले...

Yeah, Troop, but A.J. really gets me riled.

He sucks when he's behind in the count.

Trooper York म्हणाले...

Well AJ is a head case.

Think Carol Herman on the mound and you got it.

अनामित म्हणाले...

Face it. The National League is the Wisconsin of sports leagues. So to speak.

And I could agree with you, but ahh, the Phils' pitching rotation!

Impressive.

Unbeatable?

Trooper York म्हणाले...

You know his wife beat him up that is why he was so screwed up last year and had to take a few days off.

It's called Donn Mattingly syndrome.

garage mahal म्हणाले...

That 35 is looking like an impossibility. UNLV defense is overwhelmed. Offense isn't terrible, just bad..

And we know Bielema just loves running up the score, but looks like Bucky's D misses J.J. Watt dearly. And Chris Borland does not look like the same player after being out all last year.

Trooper York म्हणाले...

When the Yankees played the Phillies I do believe we beat their boney asses.

Let us get to the series and we will do it again.

And AJ will cry in vain again. Just sayn'

अनामित म्हणाले...

Rebs are comin' back.

अनामित म्हणाले...

You're right Troop.

It takes a special kind of crazy to be so utterly, indignantly pissed off when you get taken out in the 2nd inning after you just gave up 7 runs.

That's nuts crazy.

Lincolntf म्हणाले...

Wake Forest 13, Syracuse 7 in a would-be under-the-radar upset.

Lincolntf म्हणाले...

Wow! Nice job, Slugger.

bagoh20 म्हणाले...

I'm not sure at all he would have been out anyway. If you watch him round 3rd and imagine him continuing and kind of time him by sliding your mouse cursor along, you see that it would be very close and if he hits the catcher, who knows.

Ok...Some of you poke fun at Carol_Herman......but...this is a DAMNDED funny scenario and hilarious mental image.

Free association can be fun sometimes.

Lighten up and enjoy the ride.

If I had the mind of Carol Herman, I could have saved a lot of money in my youth, and I mean that as high praise.

Jose_K म्हणाले...

So they have never seen Prince Fielder? or CC ?

Jose_K म्हणाले...

And the WS will be Detroit against Arizona

Jose_K म्हणाले...

But the interesting series will be exMilwauke Braves against Brewers

Bob_R म्हणाले...

Sorry Trooper, we'll never know if the Phillies can beat the Yankers in the series. Y'all can watch it on TV.

slarrow म्हणाले...

No way would he have been out. Furcal wasn't even going to throw the ball to home until he saw Braun on the ground. Braun took it with good grace, certainly. It's just that those guys don't run all four bases full speed flat out very often, so the trip-up wasn't all that bizarre.

The rest of the next inning was, though. After Braun's thrown out (for the last out, btw--it was a two-out rally), Wolf hits the next two Cardinals. Yadier Molina hits one to the base of the wall but only gets a single after poor baserunning by David Freese. (Molina had to scramble to beat Fielder back to first base.) Theriot hit a ground ball to third for what should have been a home-to-first double play if the catcher could have gotten the ball out of his glove. And then the guy who saves the day for the Cardinals is the pitcher Jake Westbrook who pops a grand slam for his first home run in his ten-year career.

I've been a Cardinals baseball fan for almost 30 years, and I've never seen anything like that inning. Baseball still surprises.

ndspinelli म्हणाले...

Baseball is different than just about any other sport. You need to be focused, but also you need to be loose. Chemistry is important, and the Brewers seem to have good chemistry. And, if you folks think people like Trooper and myself bust balls, you don't know what bull busting is until you sit on a bench in baseball. Ball busting is part of the culture, along w/ superstition[don't wash your socks when you're on a hitting streak] spitting and nicknames.

Finally, an olive branch. I will refrain from busting the balls of Carol"Ditzy"Herman if she refrains from making ANY comments about baseball. That includes the incredibly inane one she made on this thread. No references to baseball, no comments on a baseball thread. I realize this is probably futile. But, I'm trying to be the adult.

ndspinelli म्हणाले...

However, even in the remote chance this olive branch is accepted by Ditzy, I doubt I'll be able to call off Trooper "Luca Brasi" York!

Dust Bunny Queen म्हणाले...

No references to baseball, no comments on a baseball thread.

That's RIGHT. There is no laughing in baseball!!!!

ndspinelli म्हणाले...

No DBQ, there's no disrespecting the game. If you're not intelligent enough to understand it, then just keep your mouth shut..don't diss it. Laughing is a big part of baseball. Just ask Ryan"The Jolting Jew"Braun. There's also no pc in baseball.

Dust Bunny Queen म्हणाले...

If you're not intelligent enough to understand it, then just keep your mouth shut..don't diss it.

LOL.

Really? Get a sense of humor and some perspective.

ooooh. I think we found ndspinilli's button. Baseball....don't mess with it!!!! :-D

Curious George म्हणाले...

My problem with modern baseball is that players can play the game, but no longer know the game. If I had a dollar for every player that ignored the golden rule "Never make the first or third out at third" I could retire. The only team to play "Get 'em on, get 'em over, get 'em in" in memory was the White Sox during their WS year of 2005. What a joy to watch. And I'm a Cubs fan.

SunnyJ म्हणाले...

Braun's Center of Gravity got too far out over his base of support and that happened when his legs started to fatigue on him and couldn't keep up with his head...which was thinking home base.

If you didn't enjoy the full out joy on his face when laughing at himself, then you missed everything you need to know about baseball.
