the pics look like they were taken in the '50's. Must be that special 'sepia tone' filter....

A UW Madison professor named E.E. LeMasters wrote a book in 1975 called Blue-Collar Aristocrats. His fictionalized tavern was calledThe Oasis, but proud locals knew at the time that he was writing about the Club Tavern in Middleton. Or maybe they didn't know until after it was published and that's why they swilled and spilled with him. I was too young to have been a part of it, but I grew up near there around that time. I'm reading it now for the first time, looking for familiar older faces.

If it's your tavern then it's a perfect tavern.

I don't think they'd look better with a smoky haze.

I'm a Boy Scout leader in the SW Chicago suburbs. We take kids camping a lot in Wisconsin. When people ask what the difference is between the two states I tell them "Wisconsin has about half the population of Illinois, but twice as many bars."

Looks more like a piece on photography than taverns

More bad journalism.

Clearly some of those places are supper clubs.

Doesn't Compute

Dark dank places
Full of bitter clingers,
Celebrated by
Professorial left wingers?
