A pet shop owns up to the whole problem with pet shops... and does something about what seems to be the worst manifestation of the problem.

InebriTated? is that worse than drunk?A portmanteau word, perhaps, referring to drunkenness and Britney Spears. You shave your head. You get tattoos. You forget you forgot to wear panties.

If the owner would set a no return policy, then he would have a win-win situation. It's the buyer's remorse syndrome that is making the designer dog business into a bitch.
Now if they can just implement this policy for tatoos!
Is Mike Vick prohibited by his conditions of probation from buying/keeping a dog? Nike like Mikey again.
If the phenomenon grows, it will put Jack in the Box out of business!
That was the worst puppy slide-show I have ever seen. They even had a cute guy who was not in a picture with a puppy! What the heck?
Even Jack in the Box makes fun of that reality
InebriTated would be a good word for "drunk and irritated", I might even start using it.
(Not to be nitpicky, but why is my "tag" LincolnF when I have always posted under LincolnTF?)
Whadya expect at 18 Christopher Street? The 'hood's gone to heck in an egg basket, remember? We were just talking about this. It's not iconic anymore, Toto.
I'm probably going to hell for this, but this story makes me think of a classic scene from the infamous movie "Shakes the Clown".
One would think even Lefties (and I'm betting they are) would have brains enough not to sell a helpless creature to a drunk.
Apparently not.
Poor, poor poochs that come from mills. And, are sold in pet stores.
At least, here, the owner wants the dog to go to a good home! Not many of those in New York City! You should see what people live in! And, landlords can collect rent!
Meanwhile, I went to a pet store to pick up a harness for a dog that ran free last 4th of July. Down in San Diego. My son called, distressed. I said, I'd take him.
He really pulls when he's walked. And, he needed a harness smaller in girth, than the one I had.
Nice pet store. A little out of my way. I had to travel to Monrovia. She had a "kittens for sale" sign up on her front porch.
And, I was smitten by the kitten she had. Little girl kitten. Who seemed not to mind her confinement so much. And, I handed over $100 to adopt her.
She's my JoJo. And, Molly, another cat here I adopted when late one night I heard her crying, outside ... A lamb of a cat! Took one look at this kitten and she got so mad, she went wild!
Poor JoJo spent her first 4 days, here, in hiding.
Now? I've always got company when I go to bed at night. Mikey is the "leader" in that he plays with everybody. And, both cats can find ways to intertwine with him ... once he falls asleep.
I remember when I was walking out the door with JoJo, the woman saying "you know this is a 20 year commitment, don't cha?"
Gosh, I'm 72. My son told me he doesn't want me to adopt another pet!
It's wonderful to have cats and dogs loose in your home, trusting you to feed them. And, to keep them safe.
Heck, they slept through the 4th of July. They weren't fazed by the popping sounds of the fireworks. Really made me proud.

The story makes it clear that the store owners do have enough sense not to sell a helpless animal to a drunk. Hence the reported ban. That tricksy reading comprehension again! But you got a chance to mumble into your drink about those darn libruls again.
A portmanteau word, huh? Shades of ol' W. C. Fields.

But it took one of them to be, and I'm quoting now, "returned the next day — in a near-dead state". Some people are smart enough not to let it get that far.
Try reading the story again.
PS "tricksy reading comprehension"?
Some phony folksy might want to try proofreading his drivel. He surely has the time down in Mom's basement.

Yes, and those people are the owners of the store, who stopped the problem once it emerged. Hence the ban.

No, I'm pretty busy on a lot of fronts, so time isn't a commodity I have a lot of. But it would appear you have plenty of time, being unemployable and all. Hey, maybe you could apply for a position at the pet store, since you have them all figured out! Oh, who am I kidding, even they probably have stronger hiring criteria than that...

No, I'm pretty busy on a lot of fronts, so time isn't a commodity I have a lot of.
And yet some phony folksy has time to come here to bother the adults. It must be so hectic behind the furnace in Mom's basement.
Go figure.

I knew enough that you shouldn't ever sell a pup to a drunk.
But some phony folksy thinks it's funny people can't find work - long-term unemployed (jobless > 6 months) is 45%. He must have laughed himself silly at what Krauthammer said yeasterday, that a lot of people will never find another job after being laid off. What a laugh riot!!!
Another tolerant, compassionate Lefty.
Wait, you're citing that anti-Sarah Palin RINO, Charles Krauthammer? God's Teeth man, what's next, citations to David Brooks? Anyway, I should think a ruggedly individualistic anti-Progressive/New Deal/Great Society/Mixed Economy (well, except the unemployment insurance part) guy like you would see this unemployment as just capitalism working some dead wood out of the system. My, with all this complaining, perhaps the Lefty (and so interesting to see that no one else went into politics with this thread until you started in) here is you. I see a grand transformation coming along!
In other words, he does think it's funny.
Typical.
Christopher Street again...selling drugs, pimping and now abusing animals.
The Big Rotten Apple?
That catch was very "perspicatious" of you, Lincolntf!

Possibly he was surprised (as was I) that there had to be a policy change rather than it not just being the default position from day one. Go figure. I wonder how many accidents happened before car dealers stopped selling cars to drunk people and sending them on their way with their new purchase.
