At the Tall Corn Café...

... you can aspire to anything.

Is it as high as an elephant's eye?

Higher.

Today's cropduster over the backyard corn.

He's dusting a couple of fields to the west.

Your clouds, my clouds

Did I mention that my 20 year old son got a job? He starts making pizza next Tuesday.

So... on my "Does Obama get re-elected" test, one down and two to go.

I'm letting Obama off the hook on my 14 year old becoming employed before the next election. I expect my 19 year old to get a job (even though she had to move to another state).

The difficult one, as far as Obama getting re-elected, will be my 16 year old. The economy will have to significantly improve before the traditional employment markets for 16 year olds open up even a little bit.

Funny you should say that.

The Blonde says she needs to do one more great thing in her life and wants me to suggest something.

Now I have to summon up the courage to ask her what are the great things she's done up to now.

PS A grand, typically American photo, Madame.

That is about five gallons of ethanol.

Bart Hall (Kansas, USA) म्हणाले...

Tall? You've got to be kidding.

C'mon down here to the Kansas River valley, where most of the corn is pushing 12 feet, sports two or three very plump ears, and will be ready to combine a bit past Labor Day.

I think of the knife scene in Crocodile Dundee ... now THIS is CORN.

The corn still isn't as high as an elephant's eye.

But ya know what? Oscar Hammerstein had a farm. And, he carried a small note pad. One day, looking around ... he saw something like you see, here, in this picture.

And, he jotted down what came to mind. And, then you got the lyrics.

The difficulty, to spout Peggy Noonan, today ... is a loser.

He has no appeal. Not even to those who voted for him. He lacks a "certain human trait" ... that would make him look more appealing.

And, without this magic ... he's losing hordes of voters.

What will people pick?

Like a menu. Even if the menu items list only a shit sandwich, or a crap crepe.

Usually, the politicians don't even listen to us.

Maybe, though, with the Internet ... we'll get them roused enough to listen?

They say one of the powers that came to the American brass, during WW2, was that we produced soldiers who talked back.

Sure. You could lose the stripes on your shirt. But not your attitude!

And, today? This is very true in Israel. Where saluting and parading around are not requirements.

John Constable became completely obsessed with capturing the glints that you see on the corn leaves in this picture. He called it snow and ruined many a painting by over emphasizing the thousand tiny flecks of white that dance in the fields. Many painters go crazy for a particular effect. Pitfall of the trade.

Thinking about potted plants, I remembered Prof. Jacobson:

“I’m not a potted plant. I’m here as the blogger. That’s my job.”

After Brendan Sullivan, lawyer of Oliver North.

Lawyers & potted plants = permanently associated in my mind.

Well, I asked The Blonde and her great things - I was thinking of all the lives she's saved as a nurse - were things like her black belts, giving birth, etc.

Achievements. She wants to do one more special thing.

Frankly, I think she's got more than one.

Good for her.

PS She's started volunteering with the Red Cross and I think she'd make a great advocate.

Nice shot. It was pre-composed but you saw it, and clicked.

I may come across as a curmudgeon, but I love the beauty of the earth, and the humans who inhabit it. We are, just now, figuring out what human is, perhaps. Certainly, figuring out what it isn't.

Is Althouse French?

MamaM म्हणाले...

I first noticed the Queen Anne's Lace in the foreground, then saw their petal patterns repeated in the clouds.

The tall corn serves as the buffer between.

Is Althouse French?

Are we going to get into one of those German French border debates?
