nitecrawlr is still out there. waiting.

Fred4Pres म्हणाले...

Glad the archive is back. Is there a way to back it up?

MayBee म्हणाले...

Have you been reading Patterico?

Stephen A. Meigs म्हणाले...

Good news, but I'm not able to pull up the comments to the old posts.

SarahW म्हणाले...

Good news.

SarahW म्हणाले...

Whoah. Bad news - the comments are not coming up for me, either.

Is there a way to back it up?

Yes: Blog "Settings>Basic>Import/Export"

Fred4Pres म्हणाले...

I hope google takes the appropriate steps with nitesoiler or whatever his name is.

He can always be a volunteer administrator at wikipedia. He would fit in well there.

reader_iam म्हणाले...

YAYYYYY!

Seriously good news.

---

BTW, since I'm here, let me just explain my current fit of silly giggling: "Apparently watermelons are exploding all over China."

Oh, man, the mental pictures across my mind's eye!

LOL.

Highly likely "nitesoiler" is a Google persona - and not an independent agent/volunteer living in his mother's basement.

reader_iam म्हणाले...

KABOOM!

reader_iam म्हणाले...

Ditto on the lack of comments. : (

Hadn't noticed that yet. Sorry.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

Bad link on the watermelons. Try here.

reader_iam म्हणाले...

Thanks, Althouse. Guess I shouldn't type while giggling.

I'm OK now--the missing comments things sorta harshed my mellow over the melons.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

I'm sure the comments will be back. Give it a little more time.

coketown म्हणाले...

I told you it would be back! Are you still moving?

Lem Vibe Bandit म्हणाले...

I'm happy for you but for me it mean my drunken archives are also back.

wv - unchin = 'a little' in Dominican.

reader_iam म्हणाले...

It's OK, Lem. You're not alone. My skeletons are back, too (as, I daresay, are those of others, as well). ***hugs***

wv: crfiest

No need for that, dear Lem.

Chip Ahoy म्हणाले...

Thank you, Blogger/Google for restoring Althouse's archives.

Sprezzatura म्हणाले...

Was there really any doubt?

I'll admit it wouldn't have been completely insane to cling to a five percent doubtful position. But really, there was never more than a half percent chance that this stuff was gone foreva.

Hence the justified mocking that occurred at Ballon Juice. Althouse, and others here, really were going a bit nuts.

Not that there's anything wrong w/ that. After all sans nuts, what would be left around here.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

I hope the comments come back. It would be a real shame if Jeremy/Luckyoldson's buck-like-a-chicken comments were lost to posterity.

edutcher म्हणाले...

Many congrats, Madame. I can imagine the feeling at seeing so much hard work and effort got up in a cloud.

As always, perseverance and courage win the day.

Of course there was. He's just being a spohist.

And these odds, of course, are carved in stone someplace.

Henry म्हणाले...

Why is Joe2 of Dartblog an Althouse team member? Curiouser and curiouser.

Tibore म्हणाले...

Yeah, it's taking a while, but hopefully those comments will be back soon. They've gotten this far; it'd not make sense if they just stopped right there.

Besides, that's a ton of stuff to resurrect. We just need to give them time, that's all.

Word Verification: urailme. There's a joke about enemies railing at the Professor in there somewhere, but I'm having trouble putting my finger on it...

I don't think we can count on Google doing much about Nitecruzr.

Google claims he didn't delete any comments, even though Nitecruzr actually boasts about doing so. Read Patterico's blog for more details.

They also say they are investigating the cause of the Gmail lockouts, which is odd, since this investigation shouldn't take any time at all. It's a real simple matter.

Google is controlling the story rather than honestly explaining a rather obvious problem. No, it's not the biggest deal in the world, but it says something fundamental about Google as a company. They simply don't care very much about your interests.

The circumstantial evidence that people get locked out of their gmail accounts when they criticize Nitecruzr is strong. The conclusion for me is that I shouldn't rely on Gmail anymore.

I love this quote. I want to take it out to dinner, get it drunk, and perform a French Press on it.

Dustin म्हणाले...

"Hence the justified mocking that occurred at Ballon Juice."

Heh. Those people are so angry about any little thing. As soon as they linked Patterico, there were people screaming about Bush and repeatedly saying F$CK this F*ck that on and on.

There are legitimate issues to discuss here, but paranoid truthers and BDS sufferers are insecure about their credibility, so are hunting for some chance to call others out for paranoia or a conspiracy theory.

But this nitecruzr thing wasn't a conspiracy theory. It's just Google giving a volunteer the power to be a complete jackass for years, and not caring much about that.

You can tell a lot about someone like Garage, or Balloon Juice's nuts, by how they twist that around.

ed,

IMHO, in computers, and especially the intentet, it seems like things can always be recovered. If there's a will to do so, including contingency planning ahead of a data problem. Google has the will.

Althouse's so-called "perseverance and courage" (as you put it) is irrelevant. BTW, I'd call it misaimed flailing and hyperventilation.

Different strokes for different folks.

Indeed, the comments are what make this blog, how shall I say, legend ;) w/conservatives being redundant 24/7 er agreeing w/each other ad nauseam.

To be fair, this happens at every/all political blogs as there's nothing new under the sun, so the best one can hope for is said blog is somewhat entertaining ...

>

And of course after election results, it's always fun to go back and see who were truly obsessed idiots. As political blogs really only serve one useful purpose ~ venting. :-P

Ann, I know I sound like a broken record because I've said the same exact thing at least half a dozen times in the past when you've had issues with blogger, but:

Since it's a free service, you get what you pay for. Far be it from me to give legal advice to you but if you moved to a paid server then there is by virtue of your paying them the expectation of some level of service.

I hope you will consider moving to a more reliable server.

I've seen data go away and never return - and this includes the IRS. Redundancy can cut the odds, but, as a great man once observed, "Nothing's a sure thing".

Althouse's so-called "perseverance and courage" (as you put it) is irrelevant. BTW, I'd call it misaimed flailing and hyperventilation.

PB&J just shows his Lefty bias. Google seems to have dragged its feet on this, but I noticed when Ann put on the masthead, "Google STILL hasn't recovered my archives", things suddenly moved.

Kell Sir Prize.

"

This is true, but it's still very important that those who rely on Gmail or Google Docs or the Cloud computing services Google just announced understand that these are unreliable products from a company whose agents actually seem to hate your guts if you ask for help.

Also, I suggest that those dependent on Blogger get their own URL and have their blogger blogs show up in an iframe on their own website. This will help them migrate to a future blogging technology, relieves some hosting costs, and if Blogger fouls up, their readers are still coming to YOUR url, which Google can't take from you.

have we hopefully reached the end of The Trail of Tears..basta, basta!!

Original Mike म्हणाले...

"No comments yet" now seems like a cruel taunt.

Chef Mojo म्हणाले...

Great! You've got your archives back! Makes it all the easier to transfer to the new site, right?

Right?

Sprezzatura म्हणाले...

"...and this includes the IRS."

Ha Ha!!!

Last year I personally know of a situation where someone had the IRS withdraw almost a quarter of a million dollars (which was what was due) from a checking account, twice!

Imagine having the IRS take a half million, when they're only owed a quarter mil. And, the fix was not easy. In fact the IRS tried for a third money grab after the second grab had been returned.

So, I'd agree that the IRS's computers do have issues.

I'm sure that Google can do a lot better, not that the bar is very high, relative to the IRS.

I am in the process of setting up an independent blog. More news soon!

reader_iam म्हणाले...

More news soon!

I shan't today to attempt further to define the meaning of soon (especially when it comes to news) but no doubt I will come to know it precisely at the moment when I see it.

And that, as they say, is that.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

Wow, the comments still haven't been restored. The Jeremy/Luckyoldson buck-like-a-chicken thread has been resigned to the ash heap of history. So sad.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

And the Freder explanation of light bulb physics. Oh, the humanity.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

Not to mention the garage mahl Bush/Gore house debacle.
