I know it has been said many times by other commenters, but I just can't get over the utter childishness of the protesters. I'm still looking for an adult in the group to actually make an argument that is sensical ("A people united will never be defeated" doesn't count...). Every time reality smacks them in the face, they just redouble their efforts and make the same lame chant louder.
Reminds me of a co-worker that was having trouble with their computer...if pushing the "delete" button the first time didn't work he just pushes it faster and harder. Still didn't work but maybe it made him feel better.

But then, the Wayward 14 are being lead by Mark Miller. Miller (yeah, get ready for it) who was endorsed in 2004 by the Democratic Socialists of America. Now, that has to be a key point on Miller's resume.
But our ever vigilant reporter of all things Madison has never bothered to mention that. That's OK, it took someone from New Zealand to ferret out that information about Miller.
What you are seeing in Madison is Cloward & Piven in action. Add a couple of Saul Alinsky tactics, and you have a bunch of anarchists taking over the Wisconsin State Capitol.
Wisconsin, you have NOTHING to be proud of today. Your government has been hijacked by radicals. The mobs have taken over your beautiful state capitol, angry, petulant Democrats have lied about negotiations and complained about not getting their paychecks, and your state is now basically nonfunctional. Death threats against Governor Walker and the Republicans are becoming the norm, not the exception. Your [union] police force has acted less than honorable and lawfully.
If this is all an example of how your children have been taught in the last two decades, perhaps it is time for Wisconsin to fire every damn teacher they have and open those jobs up to good teachers who have lost their jobs all across the nation.

I believe it is called a coup, and I do not quite understand it. I thought it was settled that secession will not be permitted, and certainly Wisconsin by itself cannot hope to prevail against a Federal Government that is obliged to "guarantee to every State in this Uniona a Republican form of government."
By my reckoning by clicking on the enlarged picture, it appears that Jesse Jackson drew 6 people of color to the event. I count 5 of them within his proximity, and 1 in the background.
I try my best to be blind to race, but really, what is this about? Why hasn't this issue gained any traction within the minority community? I suspect that whatever these protesters are ranting about, it is totally irrelavant to the black community. Are these protesters advocating for better programs to serve low-income people? Are they advocating for more school choice vouchers? Or are they advocating for their own self-privelege? Perhaps these mostly white protesters have the best government jobs & the most to lose, and the blacks are expected to quietly sit in the back?
Where is Crack when we need his perspective?
One suspects that if these teachers strike, WI will finally increase its test scores.

I read the Bible in my youth and was involved with evangelical Christians in my college days and in all of that, I found no recollection that Christianity was the foundation for Karl Marx's socialist redistribution schemes. You see in Christianity, especially if you read the Gospels and the Acts, people had given their wealth and their time willingly without church leaders coercing them to do so. In fact, rich Christians were not only tolerated but encourage to use their talents and their wealth to spread the Gospel.
In Karl Marx socialist redistribution schemes, the wealth is redistributed by force for the sake of fairness. It is not voluntary and those who opposed it are not only thrown in jail, but also killed or murdered in the process.
Alex, the big difference between Christianity and Marxism falls down to these two words. In Christianity, Charity is the main reason to give and share while in Marxism, Covetousness is the main reason to take and steal from others
This gives a whole new meaning to March Madness.

So it seems impossible from a human perspective but very possible from a Godly perspective.
And now to add a bit of additional perspective. As regards, who is "eligible" for the kingdom of heaven:
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)
and finally the Christian perspective of that verse:
and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
Using the Bible as a justification for a Marxist ideology is as inappropriate as using it for a "prosperity Gospel"

One thing I've learned from all my time here at this blog, is that Althouse tends to choose her words very carefully.
In this case, co-opting Sullivan's attempted framing of conservative Christians, and applying it to progressive Christians who are trying to use Scripture as part of their explicit goals to control government.

Yeah, deborah, I have to say that line never struck me as having a "hey, you'll get into Heaven someday" vibe.
More of a "God knows where you live, and He's pissed" vibe.
DADvocate beat me to it--Alex, Jesus said what he said about the rich and the eye of a needle, to counter the then current belief that the rich were sure to go to heaven because being rich proved that God loved you. Right after he said that, his incredulous disciples asked, well if that’s true, who can possibly get into heaven? Jesus answered that with man it is not possible, but with God, all things are possible. IOW, God can save the rich or anyone else if he chooses, but you can't earn it. It's grace.
the eye of the needle refers to the small doors where a traveller could get through the city walls after nightfall when the main gates were closed. to get a camel through one of these openings it was necessary to remove the camels packs (shed worldly goods), get the camel onto its knees and crawl through the small door (humble yourself before god). so, while not impossible, also not easy.

I wonder if liberals see the irony that public employees need union protection from their employer (the government) when in any other situation, the government is the sole provider of our basic needs (welfare, education, health care...)
My compromise solution would be to let them keep all collective bargaining rights and any agreements on wages/benefits would be accompanied by a fiscal impact statement and final approval put forth to a vote by the taxpayer.

What world do they consider promised anyway? They say we're going to be 200 feet beneath the ocean; they should be happy when it turns out they can afford a dry apartment and single Hyundai Elantra for the family of three someday. If they were really the "workers of the world", that'd taste like one sweet deal . . .

Even my husband, who is a sympathizer with the cause, is still doing his work. He doesn't come to bed until 5:30 a.m. because he spends so much of the day watching what's going on but he is doing his work.
