Dose of Sanity म्हणाले...

So, they are honestly letting Meade in as press? I mean...I've got a blog, can I get in?

That seems ridiculous. OH - and because I can't resist - don't journalists have some sort of union that deals with credentials?

Jim S. म्हणाले...

I want my MeadeTV.

The Crack Emcee म्हणाले...

I can't really explain it, but - damn - those are two cool shots.

Real keepers.

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

"That seems ridiculous. OH - and because I can't resist - don't journalists have some sort of union that deals with credentials?"

Why don't you sit quietly for an hour and think about the First Amendment?

Ann Althouse म्हणाले...

@Crack

Thanks. It's what you get out of iPhone. The inferiority of the photography gets some interesting effects. And the immediacy gives some emotion to it, I think.

Palladian म्हणाले...

"That seems ridiculous. OH - and because I can't resist - don't journalists have some sort of union that deals with credentials?"

As US Citizens, our "credentials" are Amendment I of the US Constitution. None other are needed.

Chennaul म्हणाले...

No one else is covering it.

Palladian म्हणाले...

"Thanks. It's what you get out of iPhone. The inferiority of the photography gets some interesting effects."

Does every meeting of the Wisconsin government begin with the Summoning of the Glowing Green Orb of Truth?

Fred4Pres म्हणाले...

Get that man some fucking credentials.

Meade is a fucking journalist, damnit.

(I am pretty sure that my use of the word is as an adjective).

Chennaul म्हणाले...

Actually C-Span 3 has it.

They actually cut away from the UN voting to suspend Libya from the Human Rights Council.

Whoopie!

Triangle Man म्हणाले...

Almost everyone is getting deep cuts except transportation. It's a good time to be a road builder.

"Invest a total of $5.7 billion on Wisconsin's transportation system, including a $410.5 million (14.7 percent) increase in highway funding over base amounts"

"provide $225 million for accelerating reconstruction of the Zoo Interchange to address immediate infrastructure needs, and $195 million to continue construction of the I-94 corridor between Wisconsin's border with Illinois and the Mitchell Interchange in Milwaukee."

"Increase funding over base amounts by $59.1 million over the biennium for the Major Highway Program to advance currently enumerated projects and begin initial work on fou newly enumerated projects, keeping the percentage of transportation revenu bonding for the program at 42.2 percent".

"Provide an additional $110.8 million base funding over the biennium for the State Highway Rehabilitation Program to meet increased costs and provide safe driving conditions on state highways."

Chip Ahoy म्हणाले...

Governor Walker got a dress?

Dose of Sanity म्हणाले...

"That seems ridiculous. OH - and because I can't resist - don't journalists have some sort of union that deals with credentials?"

Why don't you sit quietly for an hour and think about the First Amendment.

Do you think I can get into a press briefing in the whitehouse? Or a press briefing at miller park? Press box for the game? Or, do you think they check credentials and issue press passes? Don't intentionally confuse my point.

See you in 20 minutes. haha.

James म्हणाले...

Media credentials are issued by the organization holding/sponsoring/hosting the event; they do not come from any media union.

Triangle Man म्हणाले...

Poor higher education:

"Reduce state aid by $250 million over the biennium to University of Wisconsin System institutions and the University of Wisconsin - Madison to help address the state budget deficit. The reduction would be split equally between the University of Wisconsin - Madison and the University of Wisconsin System."

Really?

Crisis? What crisis?

It'll be interesting to see what has happened to the proposal after it emerges from the Legislature.

Chip Ahoy म्हणाले...

James, or they come from news organizations, whatever those are, or they come from the police. So, three sources for press passes.

Four sources, if you count my Photoshop.

Triangle Man म्हणाले...

They're for suckers. I'd sooner trust my next-door neighbor to cover an event than the 'bots in the MSM.

My hat is off to Meade and Ann for taking the opportunity they've taken and provided a unique viewpoint.

I've enjoyed the observations and always appreciate the probing questions. Thinking is good!

I know I know this could all be another coincidence.

Yeah, I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that, among other things, the Zoo interchange is literally falling apart thanks to the billion+ raided from the transpo fund by Diamond Jim.

Me too, Koch paid commericals were just on my TV. I know I know, that's just another coincidence too!

MadisonMan म्हणाले...

Link to budget.

I think if there's really a crisis, as stated so many times, that the Governor and Lt. Governor's offices would get more of a hit. And the Legislature as well.

What's with DNR dropping like a stone and then bouncing back up in Year 2? Odd.

It's high time to get rid of the Secy of State. Can they please pass a bill to that effect so we can get the Constitution amended?

अनामित म्हणाले...

Traingle Man 4:22,

Doesn't the Walker Bill propose the following "controversial" element? It looks like Charters would not be bound by licensing. Good, in my opinion.

"• Requiring that charter school teachers only have a bachelor's degree to teach, rather than a teacher's license."

http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/117192683.html

Chennaul म्हणाले...

From the text of Walker's speech:

In addition, we will expand choice and charter programs to insure that every kid gets a great education – no matter what zip code they live in. We lift the cap on the number of students eligible to participate in the Milwaukee parental choice program and phase out the income eligibility limits. And across the state, we allow any University of Wisconsin system four-year campus to create a charter school.

अनामित म्हणाले...

Why do you think the State of Norway spends such large amounts of its oil revenue on boring tunnels and building bridges?

vnjagvet म्हणाले...

About the transportation expenditures, two points:

Improving infrastructure is on of the major items the President called for in his budget message.

I suspect most of the highway and bridge building contractors employ union labor. That's the way it is even in Georgia which is not known as a union-friendly state.

Revenant म्हणाले...

I went to Jack in the Box for lunch today. The car in front of me had an Obama sticker on it. I'm sure it was a coincidence.

Carol_Herman म्हणाले...

Don't know if it's true, but some professors at Wisconsin's Madison University are threatening to strike next semester. Calling it the "failed semester."

Since I was around when the campuses exploded back in the early 1970's, I know that you're always going to have another class coming in. Given that kids graduate high school. And, have applied.

Back then? It was an "accelerated term." Limited amounts of college work. And, the kids were passed up a notch, to make room for the newcomers that were accepted. And, coming in.

Good speech, overall. And, the republicans are in the majority. If the democrats think they are ahead, they've got our system confused with a parliamentary one. Where, yes, a bozo with just a minor assortment of chairs, is "bargained with" ... to get the extra vote.

By the way, the bamster has been so negative, in general, I don't see his party getting back on track. That was once supposed to be the key. Obama promising to campaign for ya. Didn't exactly work out that well, after all.

retire05 म्हणाले...

Now, the time for talk is over. Time for Walker to hand out pink slips with little notices attached that they are being brought to the state worker being laid off with the compliments of the Fleebagger 14.

What ever Wisconsin's deficit is, offset it by that many layoffs. Including the Capitol police who refused to carry out their jobs. After all, isn't Obama always blathering about all the police who are going to be losing their jobs? Wisconsin can use a few good ones, it seems.

And if the Wisconsin State Capitol website says it is "open to the public" during the hours of 8:00 a.m and 6:00 p.m, why are crusty, dirty footed fat bastards still spending the night?

Revenant म्हणाले...

My neighbor regularly has pro-Democrat signs on his lawns. And his house -- unbelievably -- has a garage attached to it.

Coincidence? The Man wants you to think it is a coincidence.

Anne म्हणाले...

My husband went to the budget address and, while waiting to get in, was bothered by protesters, as was his coworker. My husband was asked repeatedly how he got a ticket to the address and if he "bought Walker off" in order to get one. My husband's coworker was subjected to an individual who stood right next to him asking, "Who beat YOU up as a kid?" over and over again.

KCFleming म्हणाले...

Maybe Wisconsin has a governor like in New Jersey, someone willing to stop kicking the can down the road, able to be the adult who says the party is over and the credit card has to be cut into pieces.

Yeah, the usual concerns about corrupt ties creep in. But it's a start. Gotta keep hammering away at it.

That's interesting. I suggest the profs consider calling it the "failed business model" because when four years of college costs 2 or 3 or 4 times the average American's annual salary, there is something very wrong with the model.

More recently, we have a former SWAT member throwing things at State Representatives, and we have a womanizing Assemblyman threatening a female lawmaker. If we don’t listen, then they get rid of us. And so we’re not able to actually cooperate in a way that we make decisions together I try to convince my fellow employees that we should have a union at Noodles so it’s a source of power to start with. And then I think in terms of the bigger picture that when you look at revolutions, the way that you actually get rid of any sort of dictatorship, um, is by having workers take control of the place where they work."

Rob, the moron: If the owner wanted to cooperate with us as an equal, and provide his skills that he had, we would definitely cooperate with him. He’d have to abdicate his position as being an owner and controller of us and he would have to recognize that we run Noodles together, and, basically, if he doesn’t want to cooperate with us, he’s against us.

Re: Noodles:

I would give a months salary to be that moron's Chef for one Saturday dinner service.

For example, I work at Noodles, a restaurant, and basically it’s a dictatorship there.

Amazingly, if a very roundabout way, Rob the Moron is correct. Restaurant kitchens are dictatorships; they're designed to be that way. It's called the "Brigade System" for a reason. Professional kitchens are dictatorships in the way armies are dictatorships. This is what is known as "a good thing."

The Chef is most certainly in charge. We cooks have an old saying: "If Chef tells you to piss in the stock, piss in the fucking stock." The Chef's word - like that of a ship's captain - is law. It's how kitchens operate smoothly. I'm astounded that this puss brained shoemaker has failed to grasp this vital concept.

Even the unionized kitchens I've worked in understood the necessary hierarchy inherent in cooking. Myself and my fellow cooks would have tossed this asshole in the dumpster after his first day.
