Thanks for the shout-out to dogs. If everyone brought their dogs to these protests they would be much more civil.

Emil Blatz म्हणाले...

On a normal day (and I realize there are very few normal days in Madison) are you permitted to walk your dog on the grounds of the Capitol? Just askin'... because it seems a lot of precedents are being set in all this, and they are going to have to be honored when some [insert the name of a detested organization here] group decides to behave the way we have seen protesters behave in the past 3 weeks without consequence.

Dog looks like it wants get away from the protestors.

Smart pup.

Other animals present were sheep and pigs on the wing.

I just hope Wisconsin's Hmong population doesn't see this post. It may look suspiciously like a menu.

Smells something fishy. Oily. Greasy. Smells something bad. Philosopher of the olfactory organ, the pooch is cute.

Aw cute little doggy. Who's a good doggy? I'm glad the guy didn't make it wear a sign.

Wanna hear something? There I was, reading my new book Cooking for Geeks that I got conveniently from Amazon through the portal on this very site, when I read in it that hard-boiled eggs are steamed under pressure commercially for ease of peeling. The author mused the possibility of that working for the home cook which caused me to wonder why he didn't test it himself since that's what the book is about and that's what he does. So I tested it. It works very well. I wrote the author and reported my result and directed him to the page I wrote showing the results, if he was interested. Within minutes the author wrote back saying, "Wow! Awesome!" and all the rest, "I'm going to put this up on my Twitter and FaceBook." (Two of my least favorite sites.) I thought, "Eh." Then took a bath. When I returned the page was getting hit like mad. It easily got 10X the normal page views over the course of a few days and they're still pouring in, and from places you'd never imagine were interested in cooking for geeks. I read the tweet, and it's very nice.

Not interested in hard-boiled eggs right now? Fine. How 'bout a steak with lima beans? Too heavy? Here's a chunk of tuna with spinach. What, don't like seafood? Jesus, you're hard to please. Here's a tostada, and that's all you're having.

Chip - Sounds a little bit like rocket science! But since peeling is not a problem (for me), and timing/cooling repels the iron (green) - I'm more intrigued by the ingredients(?). Because I'm about to make another batch of deviled eggs.

I think Meade has I-want-a-dog-itis. And the Brittany videoed the other day is the perfect breed. It'll keep you young for another fourteen year. Guaranteed!

A non-polite non-reminder from Thomas Friedman.

Chip Ahoy म्हणाले...

Almost Ali, I used my favorite things, not typical ingredients: capers, diced onion, chile flakes, homemade aioli.

अनामित म्हणाले...

Protest Dog needs a conspiracy theory.

It's a 25-year-old conspiracy theory, but still smells just as fresh after all this time...

I have good luck shock-and-awe cooling after boiling the eggs. Drain the water and fill the pot with crushed ice and run a bit of water in it. Separates the whites from the shell really well, regardless of how you boil them.

I wish I had more counterspace to actually cook. I also wish my friends weren't repelled by my hillbilly neighbors to where they won't come over for dinner. Even deviled eggs aren't enough of an incentive.

Almost Ali म्हणाले...

Thanks, Chip.

Great photos, too, by the way.

rhhardin म्हणाले...

You can microwave hard boiled eggs.

Five minutes at 30% power.

You get occasional explosions with less time at full power (pic: one egg blown into the other's pod).

The dog gets the yolks, and the whites go into sandwiches.

I think David53's comment regarding the level of 'civility' regarding dogs is astute but requires a qualifier:

As long as the interacting dogs don't get all humpity-hump, providing allegorical parallel in terms of how the unions apparently view non-union taxpayers.

I watched parts of SNL last night. Miley Cyrus hosted and it was very boring and not funny.

During the news update segment they did a skit about the Westboro Baptist Church court decision. A picture of a protester holding a sign that read GOD HATES FAGS was mocked but SNL had blocked out the word FAGS on the sign. Apparently it was too offensive to show on TV. During the commentary they said "gay people" about 6 times but never the word fags. Is fags the new n-word?

David53,

Uh-oh, you know what that means, don't you? Wait - that's New York and not Hollywood - never mind.

During the commentary they said "gay people" about 6 times but never the word fags. Is fags the new n-word?

No, because A) you're saying it, and B) you're noy even reverting to babytalk, like "the n-word", to pretend you're not saying it, even though it's all I can think of when you do that - which blows the whole purpose of using babytalk - and makes the whole thing stupid.

I've notified that Meade always pays special attention to the dogs in the videos.

अनामित म्हणाले...

Ann,

Just curious. Is Meade retired? I never hear mention of any line of work.

A polite reminder from Milton Friedman.

Donahue has a net fortune of about $24 million. With his 'mal-distribution of wealth' concern I'll allow him to redistribute some of it my way.

I think Meade has I-want-a-dog-itis.

This little beauty is a survivor looking for a home.

A pity that people surge forward to adopt only when a good story is presented rather than as a natural course of rescuing animals in need.

Chuck म्हणाले...

I'm betting if that's a Unionista holding the leash he has no 'clean up bags'.

Not his job and would need an OK from his shop steward to get involved.

अनामित म्हणाले...

No, that's definitely a Koch hireling scab dog. If it were a union dog there wouldn't be only one guy walking it.

They certainly are, Chips food photos are always...ARTS!

That's a Jack Russell.

That is 12 pounds of attitude looking for an uphill battle. They are full time dogs, and require a lot of attention. They need a large piece of land with varmints.

Oh, yeah....I never put mine on a leach.

Christopher म्हणाले...

Great news everybody, Michael Moore has joined the protests in WI.

The sheer amount of hypocrisy now on display will keep us entertained for weeks.

अनामित म्हणाले...

Word around the fire hydrant is that not only is that dog NOT the perfect breed, but isn't even a "real" dog....just sayin'

I'm a Shaaaaark म्हणाले...

I bet that dog is a Walker "Plant".

Lincolntf म्हणाले...

Hey, I finally put two and two together and realized that Chip is the dude who runs Things Wot I Made Then Ate. It's the only food site I've ever "favorited". Great pics and great lessons. I've steered wifey in your direction, hopefully it'll show some time soon.

Martin L. Shoemaker म्हणाले...

So a couple weeks ago, in a bored moment, I bought the domain WisconsinHeldHostage.com. I didn't know what I would do with it, but the name amused me, because both sides of the debate could claim the phrase as their own.

But five minutes after they charged my card, I had buyer's remorse. I thought, "I'm way too busy to do anything with that domain. And besides, how much longer can this drag on? I'm sure it will all blow over in the morning." (Like most of my worst decisions, this one was made late at night.)

Now, two weeks later, it hasn't blown over; but work and personal projects have gotten more busy, not less. So I have even less time to indulge my momentary impulse.

So I open the question to the Protest Dog Cafe: what should I do with this domain? All suggestions welcome. Amusing suggestions that don't require a lot of my time are especially welcome. If someone has a really good idea and the energy to pursue it, I could even transfer ownership to you.

madAsHell म्हणाले...

1. collect the underpants
2. ?
3. profit

Martin L. Shoemaker म्हणाले...

madAsHell,

Heh. Profit? At this point, I'd settle for somebody getting some use out of it.

But man, at 3 a.m., it sounded like such a cool idea!

madAsHell म्हणाले...

Mr. Shoemaker,

You should paste your proposal on another thread.

I think I'm the only one to see your proposition.

I don't know how Althouse does it....blogs, and teaches law. I just can't change context that fast.
