How are you dealing with the national blizzardification?

Here's what it looked like when I opened the door this morning:

P1060243

That made me laugh, even though I'd already seen the view from the window:

Stay warm. Go slow shoveling snow.

If you're going to attach this from the inside, out, looks like you've got the wrong tool :)

We haven't even touched our walks, yet, just the driveway to get out and to work. The rest will have to wait until tonight.

I'm at work and the only one here, until the Dean walked by, just 2 minutes ago.

Gahrie म्हणाले...

It is in the 60's here today, and Sat and Sun are supposed to be in the mid 70's.....gotta dig out my shades and short sleeves...

Tank म्हणाले...

I shovelled out. Went to work. One of the very few here.

Caveat. We did not get another foot of snow, just a quarter inch or so of ice, followed by rain and sleet. Sweet.

Some backdoor issues in Milwaukee too.

The doggies needed a tunnel.

I bet that the price of Sno-cones has tanked.

Just missed us (although there were a few flurries this morning) but it is COLD! 20 degrees.

Hard to deal with after the sunny and 70 weather we had this weekend...

Here in upstate New York we were supposed to get a one two punch but the second storm or the second part of the same storm kind of fizzled by the time it reached the east. Anyway, from all the freezing and unfreezing my roof has given out in two places and with today's semi-thaw it's the waterworks inside. Ah the joys of living in the north country.

Still you. Snow melts, but our liberal overlords just keep burying us deeper and deeper. But the weather is fabulous, which is great when you're jobless and homeless. We need The Mother Of All Shovels.

ah global warming. Now the excessive snow is because of climate change. But when we didn't have any snow that was also global warming.

(linked from drudge).

"Unchecked global warming will lead to reduce snowpack in the Sierra Nevada mountains, which will lead to an elimination of the water source for 16 million people."

We're seeing the early warning signs my ass.
I'm sick to death of the snow already. Give me some global warming.

The increased snow is caused by global warming. But if that's the case, why do we have to worry about the death of the polar bears? When it's winter there will be even more snow (except when there isn't).
If it's too hot it's global warming. If its too cold it's global warming. If it's just right its global warming. If there's too much snow it's global warming, if there's not enough snow it's global warming. Droughts are global warming as are excessive rainfalls. Strong hurricanes are global warming as are seasons with mild hurricanes. Whichever way the wind blows, that's global warming.

Son has joined neighbors in snow-blowing a path in the road for cars. Plows are still working the main streets.

Here in Racine we got about 24 inches of snowfall since yesterday but the snowdrifts are between 4 and 10 feet high.

I-94 has been closed since last night: BLIZZARD BLOG: Portions of I-94, I-43 impassable

I love winter. Why anyone would want to be in a boring, tepid climate escapes me.

Cold front hit Phoenix and we had a freeze last night but no snow. That's moved on (here it comes Texas and points East)

Fun to watch all of the pictures from Chicago and hear this is the ?3rd worst snowstorm in Chicago. Brings back memories of blizzard of '78. Lived in downtown Chicago then and remember those scenes well. Michigan Avenue is brutal in the winter. This north-south roadway is about 8 blocks west of the lakefront and so it get wind coming off the lake. In addition, because of the shore's curve it ends on the north at the lake so it also gets a freezing wind from the north.

Worst corner: Chicago Avenue and Michigan Ave.

I just returned from the grocery store. Sunshine and very cold outside. As soon as I'm done typing, I'm sticking my hands down my pants to warm them up.

It's going to be 71 here in NC today. I have shut off the heat. Will work outdoors. Will wear shorts.

dbp म्हणाले...

10 inches yesterday, 4 inches so far today and still snowing in the suburbs of Boston.

I'll just wait till it is done before breaking out the snowblower--hope it starts!

Toad Trend म्हणाले...

Love it.

Just finished snowblowing, we 'only' got 8-10 inches here in the 'Buff...

Drive wheels on the blower stopped working. Belt is still intact and tight - I fear the gearset is wienered. Oh well, the old Toro 521 got me through almost 20 winters with little trouble. Time for a new one, I suppose...next year.

Ann's door looks just like mine (in KC). Had to take my wife, a nurse, into work at noon yesterday for her shift this morning. The hospital booked fifty rooms at the Embassy Suites next door plus had all manner of staff in empty patient rooms.
Since I shattered my shoulder four months ago I'm waiting for a friend to snow blow my large driveway. Did manage to shovel a place for the dog to do his thing. Can work from home fortunately.

Unknown म्हणाले...

We only got 2 - 4 inches night before last, so we ducked this one.

Bob_R is right. Take it easy.

Mrs Meade, be careful on the ice and make sure the Mr takes a few breaks. We want you both safe.

Jerry Brown. He's going to use this as an excuse to raise taxes.

Fred4Pres said...

He's come out of his hole and predicted six more weeks of global warming.

PS What Phil said reminded me of the days when American Bandstand was still broadcasting from Philadelphia.

Every once in a while, during a snowfall, they'd turn the cameras outside and show people going home through the snow. They said people from the South and Southwest couldn't get enough.

Sick puppies.

If I want snow, I can be in it 90 minutes from the beach.

It's all about the mountains, the glorious wonderful mountains. In terms of environment, California can't be beat, but take away the mountains, and you have Florida with 11% income tax and 10% sales tax.

We're kinda like Greece, with bigger mountains and more Mexicans.

@ Clay-ipso

'Buff' being Buffalo NY. But you knew that.

I'll leave anything having to do with nudity/keeping hands warm to AllenS.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

traditionalguy म्हणाले...

Bagoh20...You have Atlanta beat. It takes 100 minutes to be in the high Mountains from here and 300 minutes to be on the beach. We are located near the end of the Appalachian chain. Winters are cold but thankfully very short. Spring and fall are long and beautiful, although summer is hot by Yankee standards.

Freeman Hunt म्हणाले...

Just before the blizzard, a free Cr48 showed up at my house. I am snowed in and fully entertained.

Freeman Hunt म्हणाले...

Also, we have a big hill as part of our yard. There will be sledding today.

Peter Hoh म्हणाले...

About time a major snowstorm missed the Twin Cities. We've had 60 inches total so far, and I'd guess we have about two feet of snow cover on areas that have never been shoveled.

As for the shoveled areas? One of the piles at the end of my driveway is as tall as me.

MadisonMan म्हणाले...

3.5 hours of shoveling. That includes roof raking.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

I have a 5 foot tall drift aling the back of the house. I can't get out the front door (the storm door opens out).

Not even close to the same. I spent a Christmas in southern California once. God, was that depressing.

Deb म्हणाले...

OMG. There's a wind advisory in the Atlanta burbs: 15 to 25 MPH. Take cover!

Fernandinande म्हणाले...

About 10 days ago our snow was about 5' up the sliding glass door - which is about 2' above the ground - and last night it was -31 F. (@10,000 feet elevation in Colorado).

FWIW, I was out scraping off the steps and a raft of geese flew overhead.

Even if it's untrue, I'm holding to the prospect that Spring is a week away.

21 inches of snow with drifts up to 5 feet. Had to clear a path for the dog to do her business. Took three of us an hour and a half to clear the driveway. Watching tv for a while till we go clear my neighbors driveway.

Hee--of course you write that sitting in a little room that at great expense artificially recreates the boring, tepid climate of San Diego. And when you do go out into the winter you love so much, you dress like you're going on a spacewalk.

Sigivald म्हणाले...

National?

Well, I suppose it looks like that from the Midwest.

Out here in the part of Oregon where people actually live it's clear and cold-ish (by our standards).

Not a hint of snow-related activities.

Peter Hoh म्हणाले...

And when you do go out into the winter you love so much, you dress like you're going on a spacewalk.

Hardly, unless I'm gonna stand around for a couple hours. It was single digits last night, and I went out to shovel in a cloth jacket over jeans and a T-shirt. No long underwear. Polar fleece gloves and a hat are essential, however.

As soon as I'm done typing, I'm sticking my hands down my pants to warm them up.

Aaaack. Thanks for the visual....too much information.

Planning to go to visit family in Pacific Grove. The weather should be beautiful sunny (upper 60's/ low 70's).

Even though we are in freezing temperatures at night in our mountainous area, it is still clear and sunny and hitting the mid 50's in the daytime. Unseasonably warm for this time of year.

Stay warm everyone. Make soup, drink wine, play Scrabble until the storms are over.

HT म्हणाले...

It was not the national blizzardification, not technically. It didn't hit the mid atlantic and the southeast is ok.

One third of the country only.

FWBuff म्हणाले...

It's 14 degrees here in Fort Worth. We had an inch of sleet/freezing rain early Tuesday morning covered by two inches of snow after that. It is one big skating rink out there. Since this is Super Bowl Week, we are rolling out the red carpet for all the Packer and Steeler fans in town. We just didn't expect them to bring their weather with them!

MadisonMan म्हणाले...

And when you do go out into the winter you love so much, you dress like you're going on a spacewalk.

It was in the 20s last week and I was wearing a light jacket to run errands. It's amazing how warm coolish weather feels when you get to February.

Original Mike म्हणाले...

Wow, that was a lot of work. Four hrs in three shifts. And I expect the city plow will be through again.

Firehand म्हणाले...

Central OK: just over 12" of snow, and we lucked out: instead of starting with a little freezing rain, things chilled fast enough that we got sleet that quickly changed to snow. If we'd had any freezing rain along with the high winds, it would've been bloody awful.

Everything except essential services was closed yesterday, all state offices and schools today as well. I've been clearing the walk, porch and driveway by sections. At 0 last night and a high of 15 today, too cold to do it all at once. This kind of mess has been rare enough in this region that I tend to forget how much working in these temps takes out of you.

I am staying inside watching the weather outside where it can stay.
