I am going to make duck and andouille gumbo soon, with ducks from my neighbor, who hunts. I'll serve it with good sweet potatoes from Avoyelles Parish - Beauregards, from Marksville, to be specific. Marksville is my partner's birthplace, and her aunt keeps a box of Marksville sweet potatoes on her porch, dirt-encrusted and right out of the patch. We had some for Thanksgiving and they were so good, deeply sweet and almost custardy.
We have to make a trip to Dallas to follow up with the s-i-l's house fire recovery, so we'll take the old route on 190 for some of the trip and sidetrack to Marksville and pick up a box for ourselves.
It's a little early for 2012 predictions, but what the heck, we do it all the time when we're talking about presidential hopefuls.
In that spirit, I am going to predict that after a year of Meade lugging those vegetables out of her root cellar, she just might go back to her own German roots and adopt THIS diet.
I saw 'Skinscapes', the name of the sleazy bar, hangout of prostitutes, and front for Nazi activity in Dennis Potter's miniseries The Singing Detective.
My sink is likely to look like that soon. I bought into the hype and picked up that new "4 Hour Body" all the reviewers have been talking about. Hopefully it lives up to the hubbub.
For the entirety of the Potato Famine, while between one and three million Irish were starving to death, Ireland was a net exporter of grains and meat.

Don't forget that Ireland was a net exporter of Irish too at that time.
"Taking pictures of what's in the sink? You guys need a vacation."
I think if you could become fully aware of what's in the sink in your kitchen, I think it would just blow your mind. Isn't there just as much beauty to be perceived in your kitchen as there is off on some vacation? I mean, I think that not only is there nothing more pleasurable about a vacation: I think there's nothing that different. And I think if I ever go looking for my heart's desire again, I won't look any further than my own house. Because if it isn't there, I never really lost it to begin with! Is that right?

That is a wholesome picture. I have to go get a snack now.
Yeah man, carb it up!

root root root for the home team?
The ones in the upper right, aren't they poisonous when raw/undercooked?
Boy, you keep a clean house.
For the record, I would rather eat food off my floor than let food touch my kitchen sink.
"root root root for the home team?"
That's right. Here at Meadhouse, we're getting back to our roots. We're going all RADICAL!
Enough with the pet food..what's for dinner?
We're going all RADICAL!
I speak Radish too.

Winter kept us warm, covering
Earth in forgetful snow, feeding
A little life with dried tubers.
OK, let me get this straight.
When Althouse first met Meade, she was on the Atkins Diet...All meat, all the time.
Now? Althouse is making a "slight" course correction of what? About 180 degrees? Hell, it's 2011...and the High Carb Veggie year!

lugging those vegetables out of her root cellar
Is that what the kids are calling it these days?
EDH,
For the record, I would rather eat food off my floor than let food touch my kitchen sink.
O.K., Stop It (You Guys Are Scaring People)
WV - sinkscape. The view below the waterline.
Oohhhh, Sinkscapes.
I saw 'Skinscapes', the name of the sleazy bar, hangout of prostitutes, and front for Nazi activity in Dennis Potter's miniseries The Singing Detective.
Loved the music in it.
Taking pictures of what's in the sink?
You guys need a vacation.
PS I see one of Meade's favorite movies is How the West Was Won. Did you catch it Sunday?
(assuming Ann allows something as lowbrow as the Westerns channel in the house)
/ducks
Eh! What's up doc?

The sum of the square roots of any two sides of an isosceles triangle is equal to the square root of the remaining side of the sink.
Ann,

You theory is hypo-tenuous.
