"Keith will be feeling, ironically, like the 'Worst Person In The World' tonight," said CNN's Piers Morgan, referring to Olbermann's regular segment that lambasted his political enemies. "But as my grandmother always says, 'One day you're the cock of the walk, the next a feather duster.' "Spoken like a future feather duster.

"MSNBC pulls plug on gasbag Olbermann."
That's the headline at the NY Post. Gasbag? MSNB didn't pull the plug on Olbermann because he's a gasbag. MSNBC runs on gas.

Olbermann is spreading the word that he quit, which makes sense given that he got their highest ratings. If they truly cared, they'd clean house, fire eeryone.
The story I saw was that Obbie was half way through a 4 year deal and reopened contract talks wanting to get a new deal befofre Comcast showed up.
Those talks blew up, his new team, which was making nothing on the current bargain, encouraged him in posturing, and NBC called the bluff. Obbie walked...
He got their highest ratings because he had the most favorable time slot.
"Spoken like a future feather duster."
This MUST win the thread! Heh!
"pulls plug on gasbag "
Mixed metaphor.
Pull the plug on a gasbag and it still spews gas.
Olberman got tired of his Ted Baxter routine
WV: ingstgo
obama said, "stop the hate speech", and then Olberman gets fired.
WV: urate
Rate what I just said.
He got their highest ratings because he had the most favorable time slot.
Meaning, of course, his successor will do at least as well?
Word verification: perspola. (A cross between perspective and payola, perhaps?)
And that's the rest of the story. Good day!
Mission accomplished, Sarah Palin!
But as my grandmother always says, 'One day you're the cock of the walk,
Mississippi River Boats. Odd that his Grandmother knows the term.
At $5 a gallon, MSNBC just figures they'll get better gas mileage out of O'Donnell.
Hooray for Comcast. First, they oust Jeff Zucker, the man who devastated NBC and made it a depressing television wasteland, going from #1 in ratings to #4, and now Olbermann is gone.
A once and future feather duster.
I wonder where he goes now. CNN? Where else? He can't do straight news, is unlikely to get a big paying sports gig.
Maybe he could team up with Dan Rather.

Actually, MSNBC has been running on electric, not gas. But now it's a conflict of interest.
Althouse: Spoken like a future feather duster.
NPR did a story on Piers Morgan and they basically said CNN purchased damaged goods; his career in Britain being pretty much over through gaffes and possibly illegal behavior.
Olbermann is spreading the word that he quit, which makes sense given that he got their highest ratings.
He got their highest ratings because he was in their best time slot.
@Fred4Pres, here's some breaking news from GatewayPundit.
It was reported that Obly got confused at the new directive "Lean Forward". He thought it meant "Bend Over" , he refused and walked.
Olbermann's last broadcast to all 10 of his viewers got him the highest ratings he's ever had throughout his entire tenure there combined. What a sell out.
Wait, does this mean that Juan Williams is vindicated?
It takes a little while to deflate a zeppelin-class gasbag like Olbermann, but I guess it will be worthwhile, even if he have to put up with his hissing during the process.

I was a bit surprised that GE sold off this long time asset. They had been using it to great effect in trading favorable, almost fawning, coverage for the Administration for lucrative deals for its mainline businesses. And, the Administration was happy to oblige. So, GE always had a seat near the head of the table whenever the public spoils were being divvied up for distribution to the favored few.
Comcast just doesn't have the same needs that GE did for buying influence through the fawning coverage. In GE's case, NBC, et al., was just part of their marketing department. But, for Comcast, their use is more strategic. Which, I will suggest, means that they can't afford to piss off a lot of their subscriber base with the hard left tilt and fawning that that was there before. Their goal is selling cable, not in getting sweatheart deals for the rest of its business units from the government.
Well shoot, sorry about the repetitive link posting.
I believe that Keef walked rather than accept less money and/or the format they pitched. I doubt Comcast will do a broad sweep as it's too expensive to pay out contracts.
More likely is that Comcast will change the format and most will settle their contracts and hit the exits. It happens all the time in radio.
Comcast has the numbers, they know what programming is competitive in their lineups. They may change up the format entirely, it's not written in stone that MSNBC remain a news channel. It's obvious that there isn't a large enough liberal news audience for CNN and MSNBC.
Comcast also hasn't announced what they intend to do with Hulu and Hulu+. MSNBC could parallel Hulu and run NBC repeats and classics. Or they could run Universal's movie catalog as a premium channel add-on in their package tiers, like TMC and AMC are now.
Hulu+ could remain an on-demand online subscription service, thus mining 3-4 profit centers from Universal-NBC's programming, archives and catalog.
What they do with Hulu will also be an indicator of their plans for streaming over their bandwidth. Thus far Comcast has been very generous with streaming bandwidth in my area. I'm sure that will change as streaming replaces cable TV.
I predict next to go is Mathews (Is he a crossdresser?). That will only leave Sgt. Schulz and that guy Maddow. What will I do for comedy.
O'Donnell is the same sort. When I watch him it's as if actual turds are coming out of my TV screen and I have to duck. That whole station is like a backed up toilet that is beginning to function as a missile base.
When I heard the deal had been approved by the SEC, my first thought was "First, can Olbermann."
Just because he had the highest ratings on the network, doesn't mean they couldn't do better. News is a business, and you don't succeed by insulting two thirds of your potential customers night after night.
Olbermann is intelligent but he writes like he thinks he's smarter than he is. Maybe he can right suspense novels about a cable network news man who uncovers plots by the CIA to kill the President.
Meaning, of course, his successor will do at least as well?
He would, maybe, if he wasn't Lawrence O'Donnell.
