This is the first SOTU of my adult life that I didn't watch. I did watch Ryan's response on youtube.
Why he chose Spuntnik, over a legion of American innovation and invention over the past couple hundred years, I cannot figure out. Why use an example that 1) began the era of mutual assured destruction and 2) was the product of an oppressive, overreaching government that ended up collapsing under the weight of its own oppressive, overreach?
I applaud a 5 year freeze as long as it's not made meaningless by the President's Clintonesque "investment".

What was the ominous Chris Matthews pre-SOTU claim that he knew about a huge gun-control announcement? He first stated that it was going to be in the SOTU, then backtracked saying it was coming soon.

The remedy is painful across the board cuts.

I love how he expressed american exceptionalism as if he were a conservative, considering geting liberals to admit to american exceptionalism is like getting a miser to part with all his money.

The "Sputnik Moment" is the realization that the Chinese may be moving ahead of us as a world power methinks. The Usurper makes an odd use of metaphor, since he is referencing a Space program he has gutted (except for outreach to Muslims).

He thinks we are an arrogant and "unspecial" nation anyway, and displays no allegiance or attachment to America. That's why the World Government Debt masters installed a Non Natural Born Citizen as the Commander In Chief.
To borrow a phrase from another posting, Obama looked like Jay Cutler on the sidelines waiting for reinforcements....that never came.
It's beginning to look like Paul Ryan has replaced Palin as the "most feared Republican". The libs are cranking up the vitriol machine.
Don't forget, Sputnik was viewed as a Communist triumph.

Yup. He wants to freeze at 2010 levels; some Republicans want a freeze at 2008 levels - which are substantially lower.

Over an hour's worth of words, and nearly nothing of substance.
Maybe ok as a political speech, but it really was a stunningly bad appraisal of the State of the Union.
